Chapter 10 - Ruptured meat.
But she did not respond as she wasn't conscious.
For the first time in this world, Noir had heard his previous name, he wasn't happy.. No, it was more like neither he liked it nor he hated it. It was a neutral feeling.
However, it did left him asking for answers.
'How does she know my name? No, more precisely, how does a mere hybrid know my name? It doesn't make sense..'
Nero's transmigration definitely not a normal event, 'any person who knows about his past' is 'any person with massive importance'. Which indicated that, this girl was anything but normal, or at least that's what Noir made of it.
Just as Noir was deep in his thoughts, the hunters from the village arrived. One of the hunters whose name seemed to be 'Marcus', came forward and offered Noir a shoulder to lean on. @@novelbin@@
"Must be tired?" Marcus asked as he thought, 'Defeating a mad Ryu hybrid alone? This person isn't anyone to be taken lightly.'
"Yes." Noir spoke as he took the support of Marcus' shoulder.
Another hunter walked by Noir, moving towards 'her'.
"It was a hybrid?" the hunter asked as he looked towards Noir.
"Well, yes, and no need to restrain her as she has come back to her senses." Noir waved with a smile.
"Sure." the hunter spoke as he reached towards 'her' but just as his hands came too near to 'her' skin... strange symbols appeared on his hand, he pulled his hand back but it was too late, the symbols started to spread all over his body.
"What the fu*k ???" he spoke to himself, his voice not loud enough for others to hear. However, Noir's hearing sense at the moment was way sharper than most people present here.
He looked behind at the hunter, his heart stopped beating for a moment, 'Symbols spreading throughout his body? ...This isn't something the novel gave insight on.'
An unbearable sensation took over the hunter's body as he scratched the symbols in hopes of relief but was met with even more pain, "Arrrghhh!"
The marks of symbols slowly turned red. Noir understood that once the symbols turn completely red.. Well it would be anything but good.
Marcus noticed Noir looking towards the hunter, Marcus spoke as he looked at the same direction, "What is ther-"
*Fleesh*
A sickening groan tore from his throat as his skin bulged and twisted—until it gave way. In an instant, he burst apart, a spray of steaming gore splattering onto the stunned onlookers.
Some pieces of ruptured meat fell on Marcus' face, "Urghh!"
Noir was somewhat covered by Marcus, so he only a few drops of blood were on his body, not that he cared about it anyway.
"Everyone! Stay away from her." Noir shouted as he gestured with his hands.
Whether Noir said it or not, no one dared to go near 'her'. For if they did, they would be met with death.. A painful one.
In the midst of the scene, a hunter whose age seemed to be around thirty-two waved his hands in hopes of gaining attention from the hunters, "Keeping her here isn't safe! But we cannot move her either, so how about we kill her from afar?!"
Noir shot him a glance, "Do you really think the solution would be this simple?" he added with a disgusted look, "Because if you did, then I think you should be the first one to try."
The hunter realized.. His proposition was nothing more than a suicide attempt, a good thing that it failed.
"So we are supposed to wait until she wakes up?" he looked at the broken trees as well the damages done due to the battle and continued, "This battle is on such a level that it wouldn't be rare if she has fallen into slumber. A long one at that, so do we just wait for months? Could be even years!"
"Dying immediately is better?" Noir added as he took a step towards her, "or waiting for me to think out a solution?"
Everyone turned silent.
'Good.' Noir smiled.
However, the real issue had just began. How was he supposed to get rid of the symbolic curse? Or even wake her up?
'Yes, I can try using threads to move her, it's not a living thing either so this should work.'
"First Weave." his voice like a whisper.
The threads reached out to her slowly and gently, but just as they were about to touch her skin, they burned away.
"I have to take things a notch higher."
He brought his hand near her, letting it linger at a considerable distance then slowly yet gently he brought it closer and closer and at last it touched her hand... nothing happened.
As he retrieved his hand, "So just merely touching doesn't do anything? No symbols crawl on my hand, good so far but this won't make her wake up."
One thing had been proved, it wasn't contact that led to the symbols appearing on a person's skin, it was something else, something complicated yet simple.
'Intention perhaps? Must be it.'
He once again slowly yet gently brought his hand near her's. Once again nothing happened, but this time things would be taken a notch higher than before, he moved her hand slowly and... Symbols appeared on his hand.
'Oh fu*k, no.'
It won't be long before he turns into ruptured pieces of meat, his mind tried searching for every answer possible, 'Intention? I need to really 'have' the intention and not just merely 'show' it?'
'How? Do I do it???'
An act that would prove that his intention wasn't to hurt and wake her up as well.
Noir could feel the aching pain, already starting to make his skin burn.
Wasting no time, he did whatever last resort he had left.
"This better work."
He leaned towards her, his right hand gently caressing her head as he slowly pressed his lips against hers.
At first a burning sensation moved throughout his body but as seconds passed, it turned into relief and at last symbols disappeared.
She woke up, touching her own lips, "What happened-" her voice sweet like sugar.
"Quite the dramatic wake-up call, isn't it." Noir stood up as he rubbed the dust off his clothes, "2 of my men died and I as well was on the brink of death, all thanks to you." he smiled as he gestured with his hand.
Though her face was flushed red at first, regaining her composure she spoke as she stood up, "I'm not sure as to what happened. I was residing at my homeplace when one day.. Not sure when but I felt an aching sensation inside my head and well I don't know what happened after that."
'So she doesn't knows anything about it? What about-'
"The symbols. Do you know about those?"
She shrugged, "What symbols?"
"Don't know about that either?"
Not letting her speak, Noir said, "Let's not stay here for long, we'll talk the rest at the village."
"Fine with me I guess."
While both Noir and the hybrid didn't make much of the matter, the hunters were traumatized due to what had took place in front of their eyes and couldn't let go of their fellow hunter's death easily.
"Do you think we should ask the elders to execute her?" One of the hunters spoke.
"I think so.."
...
What were the symbols? how did she know Noir's previous name? What exactly was behind it all? a mysterious entity? or perhaps she was just making it all up?
What do you think?
