Grand Voyage : Surviving on a Ghost Ship

Chapter 116 - Extinguish the fire

After smashing the head to pieces, Yang Yi obtained its information.

【Name: Elder of the Ice Nest】

【Description: To further adapt to extreme cold, he chose to convert his cumbersome flesh into a crystalline giant.

This is the wisdom of the elder!

He often leads large groups of followers, guarding the White Palace and preventing high-temperature objects from desecrating this glacier.

Can be used in the Monster Vending Machine.】

"Hoo~"

Yang Yi exhaled a breath of fire.

At last, he had killed the troublesome giant.

But just then, he noticed a white crystal on the ground, only the size of a fingernail.

It stood out starkly against the scorched, cracked earth, and its surface even began to form frost, turning into an egg-like shape.

"This…"

Yang Yi found it unbelievable and picked up the ice crystal.

【Name: Tiny White Fragment】

【Type: Relic】

【Quality: ??】

【Description: A small piece of white ice that never melts, constantly remaining at a low temperature. It naturally forms frost, shaping itself into an ice egg.

The holder can ignore the visual obstruction of white mist but must beware of frostbite.

Once the ice egg forms, it stabilises and maintains a temperature 10 degrees lower than the surrounding environment.

It will not burn, will not melt, and will not heat up!】

The ice egg in his hand instantly melted.

At that moment, the flames on Yang Yi's body shrank slightly, as if some of his heat had been absorbed.

This ice crystal must have been embedded in the elder’s forehead before — no wonder he had survived burning for so long!

Yang Yi had no time to investigate further and immediately began self-rescue.

Time was running out!

He absolutely did not want to burn himself to death.

His Refuse to Die effect had 3 minutes and 20 seconds left, and his Vitality was at 1.

If time ran out before the fire on his body was extinguished, he would die for sure!

So he had to put out the flames — but how?

Yang Yi regained his senses and suddenly realised that the glacier beneath his feet had turned into scorched, cracked soil. There was not a single drop of water, only waves of heat-distorted air rising from the ground.

"How could this be..."

He muttered to himself.

The dry, lifeless land existed around him like a centre point. And it looked strangely familiar, identical to the scene he had glimpsed when he first saw the shadow of the Scorched Black Tree.

If that were the case…

Then he might have become an anchor point for overlapping spaces and was in the process of being transported to that real, scorched wasteland.

At the edge of that land stood a tree forever burning in flames.

It was called the Scorched Black Tree, the Lord of All Ascension, the One Who Burns Everything…

"No way!"

If he truly saw the Scorched Black Tree, he would be completely finished, burned into ash, drifting into the endless black smoke!

At that moment, Yang Yi finally understood just how dangerous the spell he had cast was. No wonder the crystalline giant had panicked!

It was a prayer-like summoning spell, just like the Spider Mother’s ritual.

The difference?

The Spider Mother’s ritual had a success rate, but this spell only had one requirement: burn long enough.

Prove yourself as something that can endure the flames.

If you won the trial of fire, you would earn the right to meet the Scorched Black Tree, which meant to burn into ash in the purest, most extreme heat.

What an exhilarating joy… What an absolute ecstasy!

"Pah!"

Yang Yi spat out a mouthful of fire, snapping himself out of the urge to burn to death.

He reached for his Stomach Pouch, only to find that its description had changed.

【Name: Roasted Greedy Stomach Pouch】

【Type: Treasure】

【Quality: Rare】

【Description: It has been roasted by flames and no longer consumes flesh from its internal space. It can now provide 3 cubic metres of storage.

PS: If the burning continues, this item will be damaged, and its contents will spill out.】

"Sh*t”

Yang Yi cursed. He hadn't expected the fire to damage his items too!

He immediately opened the stomach pouch and took out a bottle of water.

The moment he touched it, the water instantly boiled…

Pouring it over himself did nothing except shrink the scorched land beneath his feet slightly.

At the same time, his vision went black.

His Third Eye had reached its time limit, and he couldn’t see anything at all.

【A suffocating despair overwhelms you. Sanity -20】

【You are about to meet death in darkness. Sanity -20】

"No! There has to be a way!"

Yang Yi crouched down and began frantically digging into the ground, trying to burrow into the soil and smother the flames on his body with dirt.

As long as there was no oxygen, the fire on his body would go out…at least in theory.

Suddenly, Yang Yi sensed a cold presence approaching him.

The sensation was strange — though he couldn't see, he could feel it, as if an extra sixth sense had emerged beyond his usual five.

The approaching entity was quite large, wriggling its way towards him, likely weighing one or two tons.

Soon, a deluge of ice-cold water splashed onto Yang Yi, rapidly lowering his body temperature. The scorched land beneath his feet vanished instantly.

"Suna?"

Since he couldn't see, this was his best guess.

After all, who else could be helping him at this moment?

And indeed, it was Suna, trying to extinguish the flames on his body.

Not long ago, she had used the corpses of Ice Nest cultists along with half of a Pale Worm's remains to summon a Stitched Abomination.

Due to limited magic energy, the abomination wasn't large, however it had perfectly inherited the Pale Worm's abilities, including the power to absorb and expel substances like water.

So Suna ordered the creature to spray water to put out the fire.

By then, the glaciers within a hundred-metre radius had almost completely melted, creating a swimmable body of water that connected to the subglacial sea beneath.

The Stitched Abomination had swum over, using both its hands and feet (which originally belonged to Ice Nest cultists, now grotesquely sewn onto its body).

It was also on fire, flames licking its entire form, but as a mindless puppet, it ignored pain and persisted unwaveringly in its master’s command — until death.

Once it was at the right distance, it expelled all the water it had absorbed along the way like a high-pressure water cannon, drenching Yang Yi in a powerful torrent. The spray even carried charred chunks of Ice Nest cultist corpses.

Thanks to the abomination’s relentless efforts, the scorched ground beneath Yang Yi finally disappeared, and he fell into the melted seawater.

The intense heat generated billowing steam, sending up boiling geysers.

Through the combined efforts of Suna, the abomination, and the white crystal fragment in Yang Yi’s hand, the flames on his body were finally extinguished.

Realising the importance of the white fragment, Yang Yi quickly stored it in his Worm Ring so as to not freeze solid in the water.

A few seconds later, from beneath the glacier, a charred-black werewolf crawled onto land.

It was Yang Yi.

He had barely managed to stay alive thanks to Refuse to Die, but its duration was down to the last few dozen seconds.

Luckily, the glacial ice was thick enough.

If it had been thinner, he might have ended up swimming under the ice sheet — in which case, he would never have made it back up…

The moment he reached land, Yang Yi immediately checked his condition, preparing to restore his health before it was too late.
