Grand Voyage : Surviving on a Ghost Ship

Chapter 95 - Journey Through the Mist

After discovering that fire could disperse the dense fog, the price of wood skyrocketed again, reaching 20 Shell Coins per unit — and it was still rising.

After all, sources for obtaining wood were gone. There were only floating icebergs at sea, and fishing often yielded nothing.

As for islands, no players had mentioned finding any.

Islands in the Extreme Winter Sea were extremely scarce, perhaps nonexistent.

One day later.

The Nightmare Star silently sailed through the thick fog at a speed of 15 knots.

The sea was calm, with wind force at level one — the sound of waves could barely be heard.

【Silent Voyage: Your Sanity decreases by 3】

Yang Yi frowned.

Just as Suna had said, prolonged sailing in the fog would reduce sanity.

Other players had noticed this as well and found a solution — team up for warmth, whether it be in pairs, small groups of three to five, or larger fleets.

As for the matter of trust, that was something players had to judge for themselves.

"Nomad Fleet recruiting! If you're short on wood or food, join us for shelter and 24/7 hot water. Anyone wanting to join this big family, DM me!"

"Is there really such a good deal?"

"I don't believe it. Nothing is more expensive than what's free!"

"Count me in, boss!"

"..."

Yang Yi watched the chat channel for a while, and it seemed no one had encountered sudden dangers other than crashing into icebergs.

After sailing for another two hours, he blasted apart a small iceberg.

Later, Suna took over sailing.

This was pre-arranged between them: each person would sail for six hours before switching.

In a 24-hour period, each had two shifts, leaving 12 hours free for other activities or rest.

After the shift change, Yang Yi headed to the ship's courtyard to start fishing, which proved to be difficult in the thick fog.

Yang Yi checked the chat channel and noticed that very few players had caught any fish.

Half an hour later.

Aside from catching a seal on his first cast, Yang Yi caught nothing.

To avoid damaging the ship, Yang Yi chose to release it. After all, the seal was too dangerous — bringing it aboard would only result in an explosion to his face.

He glanced at the time and figured it was about right.

Soon, there was new activity in the world chat channel — a new issue of the weekly magazine had been released!

It contained information about the white fog and even about living icebergs.

As a VIP customer, Yang Yi already knew the general content and release time of this issue.

But for the exact details, he still needed to read it himself.

Yang Yi walked over to the capsule machine and picked up two copies of the newspaper.

"Suna, do you want to read the Maritime Weekly?" he asked.

After all, sailing in this dead silence was too dull. Reading the newspaper could be good for mental health.

Moreover, Suna had little fear of aberrations, so her sanity loss was minimal.

Surprisingly, Suna accepted the newspaper from Yang Yi.

"How about...unlocking my trading rights?" she asked.

It seemed Suna had realised her trading rights had been disabled by Yang Yi.

She had tried to purchase items but had failed.

"What do you want to buy?" Yang Yi asked.

"Something good!"

Suna became excited and sent over an item description.

【Name: Collector's Contracted Item】

【Type: Consumable】
【Quality: Rare Item】

【Description: At night, throw this item into the sea to summon the Collector for a trade. (The Collector will appear on any night within a week. Do not disrespect him.)

Note 1: The Collector only accepts item-for-item trades.

Note 2: The Collector dislikes having trades rejected.
After completing a trade, the Collector will leave behind a contract item to facilitate the next trade. 】

"Collector..."

Yang Yi muttered to himself, instinctively feeling that this Collector wasn’t some ordinary merchant...

Then, he saw the image of the item.

It was a withered human head, with a blissful and satisfied smile on its face. Its cervical spine had been finely polished into a smooth handle.

【Strange Head: Your Sanity decreases by 3】

Yang Yi’s vision darkened, and he immediately rejected it!

"Forget I asked. Goodbye!"

After saying that, he quickly returned to his room, firmly deciding not to unlock this woman’s trading rights.

She would probably buy all sorts of bizarre and dangerous items and try them one by one.

That was far too dangerous — it would surely lead to the ship’s destruction and their deaths!

On the other end, Suna hadn’t given up. She seized the opportunity to send another private message.

"This thing is really cheap! It was originally 10,000 Shell Coins, but I’ve bargained it down to 5,000!"

Yang Yi's heart skipped a beat.

A rare item for just 5,000? Who would believe that?

Even if it’s a consumable, it shouldn’t be priced lower than 20,000! The lower the price, the more sinister this item must be!

The seller probably knew how dangerous it was, which is why they offered it so cheaply.

Maybe the head was even a former acquaintance of the seller!

"Don’t even think about it! This thing is clearly problematic!" Yang Yi replied. "Also, don’t reveal the existence of magic potions to other players! It’s not safe!"

After sending the message, Yang Yi ignored Suna and turned his attention back to the newspaper.

The issue must have been rushed out after the fog appeared. There was no trading section, only updates on sea events and new monster information.

Two eye-catching headlines stood out:

The "Living Icebergs" section was actually information about the Pale Worm, credited to the informant "One-Eye."

It was detailed in the Sea Chronicles to thoroughly explain the danger of this creature to players.

The information was largely consistent with what Yang Yi had provided. He skimmed it and moved on.

In the monster information section, there was a sticker with a warning:

"Before reading, ensure your sanity is stable!"

Underneath was a close-up image of the Pale Worm.

Yang Yi peeled off the sticker and glanced at it. It was the photo he had taken himself, though the creature’s mouth had been pixelated. The rest was unchanged.

Next, he read the other report, provided by the Gale Brigade — about the unknown sounds in the white fog.

They had encountered a dangerous situation, hearing a strange sound resembling electrical buzzing.

At the same time, the surrounding temperature plummeted, dropping to -40°C, causing the sea surface to freeze over!

The brigade didn’t know what was lurking in the fog, but they escaped thanks to their speed.

Yang Yi believed the informant was definitely Xu Da, the captain of the Gale.

As for how they escaped from the frozen sea... Perhaps the Gale could fly?

After thoroughly reading the information, Yang Yi reminded Suna to be extremely cautious of such sounds, as there was definitely a monster in the white fog.

If she heard such noises while steering, she had to wake him up immediately.

By the time he finished reading, it was nearly Yang Yi’s turn at the helm.

He went to the bow and took over the wheel from Suna, ignoring her dissatisfied gaze. It seemed she was still thinking about that Collector’s contract item.

Fortunately, she didn’t have permission.

Even while he slept, since it wasn’t a coma, she couldn’t override his authority.
