Chapter 635: Gargantuan Wall

Chapter 635: Gargantuan Wall

The following day, after having made sure to tidy up his appearance, Adam made his way to Professor Whitaker's office inside the castle. He had been gone for so long, that he had to now come up with an excuse for his abrupt and long absence.

Adam politely knocked on the door twice and called out, "Professor, it's me. May I come in?" After a long moment of silence, the old woman answered from within. "Come in."

Adam straightened his clothes and took a deep breath before opening the door and stepping inside. The layout of Professor Whitaker's office was the same as ever. It was cozy and warm.

The old lady sat at her table, writing something on sheets of parchment paper. Adam walked up to her and stood there politely, not daring to sit. He knew that the old woman would be mad at him.

Seeing how more than ten minutes had passed without her asking him to sit, Adam confirmed in his heart that she was indeed angry at him.

Finally, after having signed the last of the documents, Professor Whitaker put away the feathered quill.

She then glanced at Adam with a deep frown on her face and asked, "Magus Constantine, you think this institution is a tavern that you can come and go as you please?"@@novelbin@@

Ugh, she's speaking so formally with me... She's very mad, Adam thought to himself. He lowered his head and silently listened to everything the old woman had to say.

"Do you have any idea how many classes you've missed? Not to mention, the assignments that you haven't submitted and the several tests that you've failed," she sternly reprimanded.

"I'm sorry, Professor, I didn't know it was going to take so long," Adam apologized with his head still lowered.

Professor Whitaker didn't care for his apologies. She continued in the same stern voice, "Saratoga Castle holds its students in the highest regard. As such, the punishment for absence without leave can be very strict."

She paused for a moment before adding, "Considering that you've been away for a year and a half without informing anyone, the punishment can be as severe as expulsion."

"Expulsion?!" Adam was taken aback. He hadn't expected this at all. "Not even suspension? Professor, expulsion is too much!"

"The punishment is not up for you to decide," Professor Whitaker said flatly.

Adam couldn't help but quiet down. He had truly never seen the old woman act so fiercely before. He always remembered her as the kind and encouraging grandmother who would always help him out.

But it would seem that this time he had truly crossed the line. He could understand that being absent from the castle for so long without informing her or any other Professor was a mistake on his part, but the fact that the punishment would be expulsion was too much.

Especially considering that he was a stellar student-well, not quite-and had submitted several research arcane papers regarding the School of Summoning that have greatly helped this department in the institute.

"But still, Professor!" Adam protested. "Expulsion is "

"Magus Constantine," Professor Whitaker interrupted him. "Looks like you still do not realize the gravity of your situation."

Adam lowered his head once again, tightly clenching his fists. He thought for a long time about what he should do in this situation, but ultimately he couldn't think of a proper solution.

In the end, he took a deep breath and looked the old woman in the eyes. "Professor... what can I do to fix it?"

Seeing the look of remorse in the raven-haired youth's eyes, Professor Whitaker's stern expression softened ever so slightly. "It is good that you feel repentant."

"Then, that means..." Adam's eyes lit up as he looked at the old woman.

Professor Whitaker grumbled, "If it wasn't for the Headmaster, I would have truly given you a severe punishment for what you just pulled. Consider yourself fortunate, Adam, that you're only getting away with some light penalties."

Adam's pupils constricted. "The Headmaster? What... did he say?"

He wondered if the powerful Headmaster of Saratoga was aware of the Raven Inheritance and what he had acquired from it. Although Adam knew that there was a slight chance of this happening, it still came as a great shock to him.

The Headmaster wouldn't want a piece of my treasure, would he? He thought in apprehension.

Professor Whitaker's following words caused Adam to be thunderstruck. "Ask him yourself," she said, gesturing with her chin at the seating area by the fireplace.

Adam's eyes widened in utter disbelief. What?! I didn't even sense him with my Sphere of Resonance!!

He immediately turned around and his gaze landed on a stern-looking old man seated in a high-back leather chair. The man had a head full of medium-length white hair, and a thick and long beard of matching color.

The old man wore black robes that were covered in invisible runes and magical symbols. He also wore a cape that resembled the wings of a raven.

Headmaster Marcus Blackwood had been inside Professor Whitaker's office since before Adam had arrived and was silently observing him with his unfathomable eyes.

"We meet at last, Magus Constantine," he said in a deep and authoritative voice.

Instantly, Adam's heart was gripped by nervousness. The moment he laid eyes on Headmaster Blackwood, it was as if he could see a gargantuan wall before him. The difference in their

power was simply staggering.

Moreover, this was also the first time that his Sphere of Resonance had been unable to perceive the presence of someone else despite being in the same room.

So this is the might of a Mana Core Magus, Adam thought, fear as well as excitement bubbling inside of his heart.

He immediately walked toward the Headmaster and knelt down on one knee with his hand

over his chest.

"It is a great honor to meet you, Headmaster!"

"Hmm." Headmaster Blackwood lightly hummed in response as he observed the youth before him.

Long raven hair tied into a ponytail, a clean-shaven face, black hoops in his ears, a sturdy and slightly muscular build, and a tall stature. No matter how Blackwood saw it, Adam looked more like a warrior than a scholar.

But his appearances weren't what he was interested in at the moment. He glanced at the young man and instructed, "Rise, Constantine."

Adam did as ordered. He stood straighter than an arrow, but his gaze remained on the floor.

"I see that you've met him," said Blackwood.

"Him... My Lord?" Adam looked at the Headmaster in confusion.

Blackwood's expression remained the same as he replied, "I'm talking about the First Headmaster of this institution, the man known as the Night Magus."

He paused for a moment before adding with a faint smile, "I'm talking about Lord Dendar

Saratoga."
