Chapter 651: A Careful Plan

"My Lord, may I come in?" Rowan's voice sounded out from outside the study at that moment.

Adam immediately retracted the killing intent within him and flatly stated, "Yes."

Rowan entered the study and could immediately feel the chill permeating within. He couldn't help but involuntarily shiver as he thought to himself, What is this feeling? Did he leave the window open?

He gazed at his master, who was looking outside the window deep in thought and approached him. He then respectfully asked, "My Lord, dinner is ready. Shall I bring it over here? Or would you like to dine in-"

Adam turned around and interrupted him, "Rowan."

The middle-aged man couldn't help but feel his heart skip a beat when he saw the frosty look on the raven-haired youth's face. He had never seen him like this before. "Y-Yes, my lord?" He asked nervously.

"Did you enter my study while I was gone?"

"I wouldn't dare, my lord!" Rowan explained almost immediately, his eyes flashing with alarm but also certainty.

Adam deeply looked at him, his expression, his emotions, and then nodded. "Very well. Did anyone else enter?"

"Of course, no-" His next word got stuck in his throat when he realized that he wasn't sure about his answer. Although the workers at the manor were explicitly ordered not to enter Adam's study, Rowan didn't know for sure if anyone had entered without his knowledge.

Adam gazed at him, his expression softening ever so slightly. He turned back around and faced the snow falling outside through the window. "Find out if anyone entered my study while I was away."

"At once, my lord!" Rowan bowed. He then gathered the courage to ask, "Did something happen?"

Adam was silent for a few moments before replying, "I want the house empty until the day after tomorrow. Every person working here, including you, is to stay away from the premises. Understood?"

Rowan's heart was gripped by a foreboding feeling and he couldn't help but ask, "My Lord, what happened all of a sudden? Are you in any danger?"

Without turning around to look at him, Adam assured him, "Just do as I say. That will be all, Rowan."

Rowan gazed at the young man for a long time. In the end, he helplessly nodded. "As you command!"

He turned around and walked toward the door. His expression darkened gradually as he had never seen Adam behave in such a way before. He could only hope that everything worked out for him.

Something must have really happened for him to act like this, he thought in distress.

He suddenly paused and turned around to ask, "My Lord, what about young master Valerian? Shall I take him with me as well?"

"Val..." Adam muttered softly under his breath as he made various calculations inside his head, thinking about several possibilities, their outcomes, and how his familiar could play a part in it.

Being a dragon, Valerian would grow stronger the more he aged. However, the young dragon was not even twenty years of age, and as such, only had strength equivalent to a Mana Foundation Magus.@@novelbin@@

Involving Valerian in his plans had great risks, but there was a crucial role that the young dragon could play at the most critical moment.

"Send him to me," he instructed after coming to a decision.

After Rowan left the study, Adam paced around the room a few times until he sat at his table and closed his eyes, deep in thought. Although the contents of that anonymous later comprised a single line, it managed to put his mind in utter chaos.

He leaned back in his chair and opened his eyes. His lips curled into a bitter smile and he recited a poem,

"The strongest spell may sunder the sky, and bring the mountains piercing high.

But brawn alone will surely fall, when clever minds outmatch it all.

A whispered thought and a careful plan, will best even the mightiest of man."

He stared at his ceiling in a daze, thinking to himself, I had accounted for this in my planning, so why then am I feeling so surprised by it?

I told myself over and over again that I'm not a lucky person, so why then am I feeling this way when things didn't go according to plan? Why the indignation?

In life things rarely go according to one's plans, so then why do I feel this way?

His face remained expressionless, but his heart was churning with stormy waves. His eyes narrowed and a dangerous light flashed in them.

Who... Just who is it?

His expression turned solemn and he began reorganising his entire plan. Divining the identity of the person who sent him the letter could wait. Now, he had to alter his entire plan, or else not only he, but everyone related to him would die the following day!

Right at that moment, the door opened and a gray, furry cat strutted inside. "Brother, you called?" Valerian asked.

"Val, get inside. I'll explain everything later," Adam instructed. Then, without speaking another word, the young dragon flashed into a gray light and dove inside the youth's mind- inside his spirit sea.

For the next few hours, Adam remained seated on his chair like a motionless statue, thinking long and hard and formulating a new plan of action. The new plan had some risks, but it was

worth it.

At the very least, it would allow him to turn the tables on his opponent.

He then quickly penned down three letters and summoned the Brotherhood's messenger birds-the white owls. After sending the letters through the Spirit World, he patiently waited.

Not even ten minutes had passed when he suddenly sensed an individual covertly enter his manor compounds. Adam got up from his chair and walked to the window, gazing at the hooded figure that entered the building through the side entrance.

A minute later, the door to his study opened and the hooded figure entered. After closing the door, the figure walked toward Adam and asked in a serious voice, "What's the matter? What's so urgent that you'd call me here so late at night?"

The figure removed his hood, revealing himself to be none other than Daneli. He gazed at Adam standing by the window with his back facing him for a long time. Something seemed off to him and he couldn't help but frown.

"Adam?" The elf called out again, his voice laced with a trace of anxiety.

The raven-haired youth slowly turned around and coldly stared at him with blatant killing intent. There was a raven-feathered dagger in Adam's hand pointing straight toward him. Daneli's expression darkened and he spoke in anger, "Adam, what is the meaning of this?"

Adam coated his mana around the dagger and coldly muttered, "Daneli, why..." The next moment, he pounced on the elf and roared in indignation.

"Why did you betray me?!"
