Greatest Legacy of the Magus Universe

Chapter 772: Advanced Runes (Ko-fi Bonus Chapter)

Adam felt the same bizarre feeling here in Hannes City and also in Blackshore.

Despite there being no evidence suggesting it, he, along with everyone else related to this specific incident in Hannes City, thought that the underground tunnel leading to the vampire's lair had some connection to Shadowmuir.

The same happened in Blackshore. Despite there being no evidence suggesting that the Cult of Bones would not participate in the battle, everyone from Ravenfell—even the Rank 3 Magi—thought that the Cult had withdrawn.

This led to the forces of Ravenfell becoming heavily outnumbered when they arrived at Blackshore.

If it wasn't for Adam advancing to the Mana Vortex Rank, everyone from Ravenfell would have perished in that battle!

This was a high-level spell from the School of Enchantment that was altering the perception of people en masse.

It was a subtle, yet very insidious spell.

Why is it that only I was able to figure out this discrepancy in both places? Adam thought.

It has to be because of the white lotus… I can't think of any other reason.

And the one to cast this spell has to be someone from the Cult of Bones. But this kind of spell…

Adam, thanks to having consumed the memories of several experts from the Greater Universe, had the knowledge of countless spells.

So, naturally, he could also identify the spell that was being used here.

The youth's brows furrowed, his expression turning grave, But such a spell should not have been possible here!

First, there was Macabre Domain, and now this…

No doubt this is the doing of the Cult Leader!

Adam found himself involuntarily taking a deep breath. The next moment, he extended his Sphere of Resonance to the maximum output, covering almost the entire city.

He could instantly locate Valerian, who was touring the market district of the city. Other than that, he also confirmed that he was the strongest being in the city.

Realizing this, he couldn't help but subconsciously heave a breath of relief.

If this is truly related to the mysterious Cult Leader, then I must be extremely cautious, he thought to himself.

And it is very likely that this is, in fact, related to him!

He turned his attention to the portly middle-aged man and asked, "You mentioned the existence of runes in the tunnel. Were you able to decipher them?"

Elorywn shook his head, displaying an apologetic expression. "No, my lord. Those are some highly advanced runes and beyond my comprehension. I did, however, send a copy of those runes to the Ulier Headquarters."

"And any reply from them?" Adam asked.

"No… my lord."

"I see." The raven-haired youth slipped into deep thought. Highly advanced runes carved on the walls, eh?

Could these runes be responsible for teleporting people from the surface to the underground tunnel? Perhaps, something else?

Only after studying them will I be able to come to a conclusion.

"What's the situation in the underground tunnel?"

Elorywn respectfully answered, "My lord, the place is under strict security by the Magi of the Clover Academy. However, they are only Mana Foundation Magi.

"From time to time, several Rank 2 Professors will visit the place and try to uncover the secrets of summoning magic and shadow magic left behind by the deceased vampire.

"Moreover, we have also found that before that vampire had gone into slumber, he used to be a Mana Vortex Magus. So a lot of his research is still left in the underground chamber."

"What about the Headmistress?" Adam asked. "How often does she come here?"

Helene Godfrey was the only Mana Vortex Magus he had to worry about in Hannes City. She was an old Magus and a very powerful one.

"Very rarely, my lord," said the man. "And even if she does come, she usually spends her time in the tunnels, studying the advanced runes and trying to decipher them."

Adam silently nodded, slipping into his realm of thoughts once again.

Perhaps, the Headmistress has also noticed the peculiarities in the runes?

Now that I've become a Mana Vortex Magus, perhaps the Brotherhood's Headquarters will allow me to look into the research they've carried out on the advanced runes…

But it's strange that they would keep such a tight lid over that research.

He got to his feet, instructing the man, "Alright, Elorywn, take me to the tunnels."

"My Lord, right now?" The man was taken aback. "S-Shouldn't we go at night when there are fewer people around?"

"Don't worry about that," the youth assured him as he weaved a simple hand seal, slowly disappearing out of his senses. "They won't notice me."

Elorywn stood still with his mouth agape for a few moments before hurriedly walking towards his table, grabbing a few parchments, and rushing out of his office.

He spoke in a hushed tone before he exited, "My Lord, please stay close to me."

With that said, he and Adam left the Clover Academy building and headed towards the underground tunnel.

After passing through the peculiar wall at the end of a certain cobblestoned alley above ground, Adam and Elorywn were teleported to the underground tunnel.

Gazing at his black and white surroundings, Adam was reminded of the time he, Edward, and Lisa, along with some of the Magi of Hannes City, had entered this tunnel to fight the vampire and his undead creatures.

It feels like a lifetime ago, Adam thought to himself with a faint smile.

He followed after Elorywn, who seemed like he had arrived here to study the tunnel. There were Rank 1 Magi from the Academy stationed every fifty to hundred meters, standing guard.

All of them respectfully greeted Elorywn when he passed by. Of course, none of them sensed another person following behind the portly man.

After several minutes, Elorywn stood before a certain roped-off section of the tunnel, walking closer to the wall and muttering under his breath, seemingly talking to himself.

"Right, this is the one the Headmistress was studying. Perhaps, I can learn a thing or two as well…"

He then began jotting down notes on the parchment papers.

Understanding the meaning behind the man's words, Adam stepped forward to study this section of the tunnel.

His eyes narrowed and his pupils dilated. His observation capabilities were significantly boosted as he activated the Sphere of Resonance and focused on the wall before him.

He could see highly advanced runes intricately carved on the walls. The language used was different, it felt chilling, ominous, and… otherwordly.

The moment Adam's gaze landed on these runes, his heart turned cold.

Although he didn't technically know the language the runes were written in, he was familiar with them as he had seen them in the memories of a few experts from the Greater Universe.

Adam suddenly recalled the dark ritual magic that was used in the summoning magic in the Duskfall Basquerade back in Ravenfell.

His eyes narrowed and his expression grew dark.

He had seen the language in the memories before.

Furthermore, the existence of this language here further solidified his speculations that the Cult of Bones was involved in Hannes City.

Adam's worst fears had taken form.

After all, the runes were etched in a language he recognized.

It was the tongue of devils…

The devils from the Nine Hells of Inferno!
