Chapter 1161: The Exam Begins
In other words, this was an exam he couldn’t back out of once he participated.
Evan had no intention of backing out or escaping at the last minute. After this period of review, he was very confident in himself. He did not have to worry about his practical exams at all, and he could handle the written exams as long as the questions were not too tricky.
Evan was currently a fourth-year student, and after taking the O.W.L.s exam early and entering the N.E.W.T.s class, he would have an extra year compared to normal students before graduation.
He had everything planned out and applied to Dumbledore for an exchange to a foreign Wizarding School.
Except for the all-girls’ school in America and the mysterious moving Wizarding School in East Asia, the remaining eight famous Wizarding Schools had connections with Hogwarts. If Voldemort was eliminated by then, Evan would consider applying for an exchange to study at one of them.
Taking this opportunity, he would see the wizards and scenery of other countries, learn new magic, and gain knowledge…
Dumbledore also agreed to Evan’s application and promised to help him fight for it if there was a chance.
Among these schools, Evan was most interested in the four Wizarding schools located in Egypt, Japan, China and the United States.
They all had ancient and long histories, each corresponding to a unique magic system, and had their own magic categories, which were very attractive…
Of course, the other four magic schools were also very good, and they all had their own differences from Hogwarts.Their first exam, Theory of Charms, was scheduled for Monday morning.
After breakfast on Sunday, Evan rejected Hermione’s request to use the Time-Turner again. What she should do now was to relax and maintain enough physical strength to cope with the exam tomorrow, rather than using the Time-Turner to overload her memory.
Hermione was too excited and uneasy, and she had no confidence in herself. She always felt that she had missed something.
Harry agreed to test her after lunch but regretted it almost at once.
Hermione was very agitated and kept snatching the book back from him to check that she had gotten the answer completely right, finally hitting him hard on the nose with the sharp edge of Achievements in Charming.
“Why don’t you just do it yourself?” he said firmly, his eyes watering.
“I can’t, Harry, I…”
“Then go find Evan to help you. He’ll definitely have a way!” said Harry firmly, handing the book back to her.
Just like that, Hermione went around and came back to Evan with a thick copy of Achievements in Charming.
Evan made her drink a bottle of Calming Draught just to calm her down.
In his opinion, many people in the House needed the help of such a basic potion.
Maybe because of the potion, the Gryffindor common room was unusually quiet that day.
The younger students tried to leave and make space, leaving only the fifth and seventh-year students in the common room.
Neville borrowed Hermione’s magic notes from the past few years and was flipping through them again and again, his lips moving soundlessly; next to him, Ron did the same, laying the class notes of the past two years flat on the table, with his fingers in his ears; Seamus Finnigan was lying flat on his back on the floor, reciting the definition of a Substantive Charm, while Dean checked it against The Standard Book of Spells, Grade 5; and Parvati and Lavender, who were practicing basic locomotion charms, were making their pencil cases race each other around the edge of the table. Harry went to find Sirius, while Evan, Hermione and Elaine sat on the sofa by the fireplace.
Evan and Hermione kept picking up their books, reading a paragraph, putting them down to silently memorize it, and then picking them up again to check if they had remembered correctly.
Elaine held a blood-flavored lollipop, slowly licking it, her wine-red eyes staring at their strange actions.
After that incident, the students all knew that Elaine was a vampire, but since even Voldemort had resurrected, a vampire enrolling didn’t seem like a big deal anymore, and everyone gradually accepted it.
Moreover, Elaine was very quiet and low-key, never causing trouble, and rarely appeared in public.
She rarely went to the Great Hall, only talking to a few people, and most of the time stayed close to Evan.
Evan could only use the Time-Turner to avoid her and study alone with Hermione…
After returning from the future, Evan talked to Caresius about the treatment of the evil god’s blood and the method of destroying their clan’s First Embrace. Caresius agreed, but they were still vampires, and he wanted to find other ways to expand his clan.
So, after dealing with the affairs of Norway, he set off for the United States.
That was the base camp of vampires, where he could find what he needed.
All the fifth-year students studied hard for the whole day. That night, during dinner, they saw the examiners. and a buzz of conversation broke out in the previously quiet Great Hall. Hermione’s hand went limp and her fork slid from her fingers and landed with a loud tinkle on her plate.
“Oh, my goodness,” she said faintly, staring into the entrance hall. “Is that them? Is that the examiners?”@@novelbin@@
Evan also raised his head and looked at the entrance hall.
He saw Professor Dumbledore walking in from outside the castle with a small group of ancient-looking witches and wizards, and appearing at the doors to the Great Hall.
“Shall we go and have a closer look?”
“Hurry up!” Hermione pulled Evan to the entrance hall, and many students did the same.
Next to Dumbledore stood a tiny, stooped witch.
She was Professor Marchbanks, the chief examiner this time. Her face was so lined it looked as though it had been draped in cobwebs.
“Journey was fine. We arrived quite early,” said Professor Marchbanks loudly. She seemed to be a little deaf. Although Dumbledore was very close to her, she spoke loudly. “Yes, the Wizarding World is in chaos now. People are suspicious, as if You-Know-Who may appear at any time, but I told them not to worry at all, because you are here, Albus. I always tell my friends that you are the greatest wizard I have ever seen… Still remember I examined you personally in Transfiguration and Charms when you did N.E.W.T.s … Did things with a wand I’d never seen before…”
“Thank you!” said Dumbledore with a smile. “Griselda, would you like to have some tea in my office?”
“Oh… Have some!” said Professor Marchbanks loudly. “Heard some time ago the Ministry of Magic has been interfering with Hogwarts’ teaching, even sending a High Inquisitor. They’re just meddling; Cornelius certainly…”
Under the respectful gazes of the students, they walked up the marble staircase.
“She looks amazing, doesn’t she?” Hermione asked in a low voice.
“Not really,” said Evan. Professor Marchbanks didn’t exactly look kind.
“She must be very old. She was even in charge of Dumbledore’s exams back then,” said Hermione.”Oh my God, she must be very experienced and have seen all kinds of magic. I hope the exam won’t be too difficult.”
The countdown to the exam began, making for an uncomfortable sort of an evening.
Everyone was trying to do some last-minute studying but nobody seemed to be getting very far.
In the end, Evan, as the Head Boy, urged everyone to go to bed early.
Staying in the common room would not help them at all. It was just a torment…
