Chapter 852: Aren’t You Afraid of Retribution?
At the Jenkins Group annual meeting, Oliver Johnson didn’t see Daniel Marshall. Jordan Bennett was also absent this year.
Jordan Bennett’s wife was pregnant and couldn’t come, which was understandable. However, Daniel Marshall was a different story; as the CEO of the group, his absence tonight was quite surprising!
After three rounds of drinks, Oliver Johnson cautiously asked Adam Howard, “This is the first time he’s missed the annual meeting. What’s going on? It’s already trending on social media. The press will definitely blow this out of proportion.”
Adam Howard’s expression was very calm as he casually said, “Not sure, he didn’t explain. Let’s just drink and eat what we should. Why fuss over this! If the media doesn’t exaggerate, then it isn’t doing its job. We’re used to it. Besides, if Daniel thinks it’s no big deal, then we have even less reason to worry.”
Suddenly, Oliver Johnson’s gaze fixed on Martin Wallace.@@novelbin@@
Martin Wallace just ate and drank without any reaction.
Oliver’s gaze then shifted to Adam Howard, who was also just eating and drinking, appearing unconcerned.
“I think you’re both too calm. There must be something unusual afoot.”
Adam Howard and Martin Wallace didn’t respond to Oliver. The two of them clinked glasses and leisurely savored the fine wine.
Seeing this, Oliver shook his head and said no more.
Oliver looked toward the chairman not far away; tonight, the spotlight could only be on the chairman.
It was only because Daniel didn’t show up that the chairman could have a celebrity-like halo of popularity.
…
On New Year’s Day, Mrs. Jenkins had just changed her clothes when she faintly heard Hannah’s voice and the cry of a baby.
Mrs. Jenkins thought it was an illusion and knit her brows.
Leaf Fiona came in, adjusted Mrs. Jenkins’ collar properly, and then accompanied her downstairs.
As they reached the top of the stairs and saw the person sitting in the living room, tears spontaneously filled Mrs. Jenkins’ eyes.
This was no illusion; her beloved Hannah and George had returned.
Upon seeing her grandmother, Hannah immediately ran over and hugged her.
Mrs. Jenkins’ eyes twinkled with tears as she tightly hugged Hannah back, “I didn’t expect you both to return. It’s very moving for me!”
Leaf Fiona whispered, “Mrs. Jenkins, let’s go downstairs first. We can sit in the living room and talk at length there.”
Mrs. Jenkins nodded and let Leaf Fiona and Hannah assist her down the stairs.
Seeing her great-grandchild, Mrs. Jenkins smiled through her tears and cradled the baby.
Mrs. Jenkins could never have anticipated such a thoughtful surprise from Olivia!
…
Cross City.
After her prenatal check-up, Olivia Jenkins went to a private restaurant for a meal with Benjamin Johnson.
During the meal, Benjamin brought up Olivia’s decision, “Aren’t you afraid of retaliation by having Hannah and George come back?”
Trembling her slightly curled eyelashes, Olivia looked up and met Benjamin’s concerned gaze, “I’m confident about this; it’s a step that was bound to be taken sooner or later. Seraphina and Henry Charles are already in jail. It’s just Hannah and George; they won’t be able to cause any trouble.
Grandma doesn’t have much time left. Let them spend more time with her. I believe Grandma has changed a lot. She’s reasonable now and won’t fail to distinguish right from wrong anymore. Plus, I will be away for quite a long time, and it wouldn’t be right if no one were with Grandma.”
Benjamin served Olivia a bowl of chicken soup and then gazed at her tenderly, “I’ll travel with you. Take my private jet. That way, you can avoid the public eye. I believe Daniel won’t stop you. You’ve built up the Jenkins Group. Make sure you prepare everything thoroughly and keep an extra careful watch.”
Olivia nodded slightly, “You’ve thought of everything. I’ll take your private jet.”
What do you think?
