Chapter 298: Suspicion
Michael remained standing there alongside the other girls, as he watched Rose demolish the food in almost an instant.
It almost seemed like she wasn't doing this to enjoy it, but more like she wanted to show them she could eat that much.
Either way, it seemed off.
"She's like a lawnmower with tits..." Michael muttered in amazement, making Rose flinch.
"I heard that," she said flatly. "Also, lawnmowers don't have jugs like mine, so don't disrespect me like that."
"Mhm." Michael merely nodded at her playfulness, before he turned to the girls. "Let's go to Celina—Rose is going to finish this in just a few more minutes either way."
"Sure," Celeste agreed, and so did Maya, who nodded in response.
With that, Michael left the starving lawnmower to her food and flew over to Celina.
Yet the moment he arrived, a surprising sight greeted him.
Unlike Maya's former division and Rose's food battalion, Celina actually seemed like she wanted to teach these people.
"Up and down! Don't slack like that, or else your posture is going to be messed up in the future," Celina scolded, not noticing Michael and the girls were there.
So she continued, but...
Her teaching was slightly harsh, as instead of giving them pointers, she kicked them, bruised them, and only then did she tell them what was wrong.
He could admit it wasn't a terrible strategy, as this way, it would be more memorable.
But still... Celina's a sadist... Maya's a masochist, Rose is a foodie, and Celeste? Well... she's all of the above, Michael thought with a sigh, and turned to Celeste, who merely flashed a warm smile toward him in response.
Yep, I can't even find faults with her.
[There is only one fault, and that is you for being a dull bastard,] the system snickered. [You should've tried killing the demon on your own. I noticed you were holding up surprisingly well, and you even managed to track its movements perfectly. I believe with a bit more preparation, you could kill it.]
Probably, but I guess I won't have to find out since that thing is dead now, Michael whistled.
However, for some reason, the system didn't say anything afterward, which made him fall into thought.
The random provocation and the mention of him killing the demon was definitely no coincidence.
It's still alive? he asked sternly.
[Yep. When demons die—especially strong ones—they leave behind a miasma on the person that killed them. Lila didn't have that,] the system explained, before continuing. [What she did have, however, is the blood of another human stained on her wrist. If anything, I believe she is a traitor.]
That's a pretty big accusation, but I can see where you're coming from, Michael fell into thought.
He didn't really want to tap into his memories, but this situation called for them.
Therefore, he glanced around, opening them like some sort of folder, until eventually, the floodgates opened.
The system was thankfully unaware of what was happening, but in just a few moments, Michael reopened his eyes.
Now, he had a bit of information in store.
And by a bit, he had around the last couple million years in store.
It all went by pretty fast, and he could now recall the information regarding the demons.
Just as the system had mentioned.
Anyways... Now this is a bigger problem, Michael thought.
Usually, his task would end here—and honestly, he could just leave.
But if he did, then all the potential followers would be replaced by demons, which would not be the greatest outcome.
Despite that, Michael focused up and decided to approach Celina quietly, before tapping her on the shoulder.
She turned around, startled—but just as she was about to slap him across the face, Michael grabbed her hand.
"Hey, I'm glad you were having fun tormenting them, but it's time we go," Michael said with a chuckle. "Unless you want to stay here?"
"Nope, I'm bored—these people are all idiots," Celina scoffed as she stepped past him and went over to the other girls.
In the distance, Michael could see Rose approach, and now, it was finally time to leave.
Or report, for that matter.
The angel, which first brought them to Lila's headquarters, appeared before them again—just this time, he looked a little more battered.
"I apologize for the delay—I had some demons to take care of," the angel explained. "Now if you would follow me, we could finish up with the assignment."
Michael nodded, but despite that, he was a bit suspicious.
There were bruise marks, and not a single cut.
Demons didn't punch—they mainly stabbed—so for that to have happened was very unlikely.
Unless he's rock hard... His skin is rock hard, Michael pondered, before putting it to the back of his mind.
After a few minutes of walking, he finally arrived in the headquarters, as they took the same route.
The girls looked excited, but he was still skeptical.
What could he do to Lila—how could he kill her?
There was no way he could think of, as he wasn't even remotely close to killing the demon earlier.
However, he had to think of something, since if he didn't, then all the progress he made here would be lost.
He went through the halls, until finally, he reached Lila's office and swung open the door.
She was sitting at her desk as per usual, but this time, she had a slightly gloomy look on her face.
"What's up?" Michael asked, startling Lila out of her thoughts.
"Nothing too serious—just the report that should've been here disappeared. It seems like I'll have to delay your departure, apologies," Lila expressed regretfully.
Or that was what it seemed like on the outside—but after these few memories he had obtained, Michael was able to tell when someone was lying with 100% certainty.
Therefore, he merely nodded, and so did the girls, who seemed even more excited than before.
"We can get some ice cream afterwards," Celeste said. "And since Michael has all those ores, we could stock up as much as we want!"
"Yep... That's exactly what we're going to do," Rose replied with a wide smile, which sent shivers down Michael's spine.
After all, she was a foodie—and what more could a foodie do than eat?
Even if he could create limitless rocks, if they overstayed their welcome, then the rocks would begin disappearing, and in turn, that would cause Michael a load of trouble.
Despite that, he turned to Lila, who began speaking again.
"Michael, I'll give you some praise in the report, since you—out of everyone here—did something I couldn't even fathom. Killing thousands of demons by yourself, and then coming out alive against a Tier 10 demon, was definitely unheard of. I will make sure your future is bright."
"Thank you," Michael replied with a nod.
"Anyways, that's all for the day. You guys can get accustomed to some sleeping quarters in the city—it should all be paid for starting today. Sorry for not giving you an allowance previously," Lila said, scratching her head. "But now, you can even go to a spa. There's one I can recommend near Heartvale Valley—it's really good."
Her comment was more fitted for the girls, who jumped up in excitement.
In these types of situations, Michael felt pretty left out.
But in the end, it wasn't exactly his fault.
He wouldn't cut off his dick to fit in, and he just had to get some male friends.
Eventually.
Nonetheless, the girls began walking out, but Michael decided to remain inside.
After all, he wanted to have a small chat with Lila.
"Michael?" Lila tilted her head. "What's the problem?"
"I've got a few questions for you, if you don't mind answering them," Michael stated as he sat down in front of her. "First things first—how do you kill demons so easily? I can't even begin to fathom killing someone so strong."
"No, I believe you're misunderstanding one thing. I'm strong, so naturally, I can kill stronger demons easier. But of course, there's also the benefit of having some skills that could help you out," Lila replied cheerfully. "That demon you fought was especially tough—it took me all I had to even kill him."
"And yet, you came out unscathed," Michael chuckled, making her flinch on the spot. "But that's fine—I can learn to come out unscathed against demons of that caliber eventually, right?"
"Are you accepting my offer?" Lila's eyes beamed, ignoring the previous altercation.
"Until I leave, I agree to be your pupil—how does that sound?" Michael offered, and Lila immediately stood up, before stretching her hand out.
"That's a deal," she said excitedly, and Michael stood up as well, accepting her handshake.
"We can start our little training now, if you don't mind. I have a few things I can teach you right away—and more tomorrow," Lila said as she walked past him to the door. "So, what do you say?"
Michael shrugged as he followed after her.
"Lead the way."
What do you think?
