Chapter 36 Shadow Step
"Huh?" Feng Shen rubbed his forehead in exasperation, unable to believe what he'd just heard from his personal servant:
"No, you idiot. Not like that." He gave her a light tap on the head, more playful than punishing. After all, he didn't want to frighten off this little pig before the feast.
Feng Shen felt grateful that he didn't act on his earlier intentions.
He'd nearly moved his hands from his personal servant's shoulders to her neck, strangling her to death before severing her head to fill the water with her blood.
'Lucky I wasn't too hasty,' thought Feng Shen.
Blushing even deeper at the Second Young Master's touch, Yùn Yì felt a wave of embarrassment wash over her as she realized the misunderstanding.
Backing away in a flash, while waving her hands in the air in front of her, she was all over the place:
"I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry! No one has ever touched me because I'm sick!" Yùn Yì replied, anxiety creeping into her voice.
She feared her honesty might cost her the job, worried that the Feng family wouldn't want a sick servant.
Yet, Yùn Yì refused to lie or conceal such a significant truth.
One of Feng Shen's eyebrows shot up as he blurted out, "Sick?"
'Does she truly believe she's sick?'
Yùn Yì paused for a moment to steady her nerves, lowering her head. "Yes, Second Young Master… The village doctor told me I'm sick…"
Feng Shen scratched his chin, contemplating just how foolish mortals could be. He regarded them as lower than mere ants—inferior beings lacking knowledge and possessing a low IQ.
Animals that live their brief lives only to die, they reproduce so quickly—like rats.
For Feng Shen, it was annoyance.
Though he did feel a sense of relief that no one was aware of his personal servant's rare physique.
Feng Shen understood it would be a considerable hassle if others had found out; they would come uninvited.
Especially the powerful beings at the pinnacle of the cultivation world—those with prestige, power, and wealth—would undoubtedly do everything in their power to take his personal servant away.
Noticing the Second Young Master's silence, Yùn Yì felt herself on the verge of tears. "Please don't kick me out! I'll do anything! I beg you! I don't want to go back!"
She raised her head, desperately hoping to avoid being sent back to the Mortal Realm, even reaching out to grab onto his chest.
Yùn Yì despised the Mortal Realm. It was dull, too simplistic, and nothing ever truly interesting happened there.
But in the higher realms, people soared through the skies, could destroy mountains with a single punch, and magnificent creatures roamed the lands.
For Yùn Yì, this place was far superior in every way. It was simply breathtakingly beautiful.
'And the food! The food is simply divine!' Despite the tears in her eyes, drool threatened to drip from her mouth.
"Relax, relax, I won't get rid of you!" Feng Shen said, attempting to soothe her:
'At least not for now,' he thought in the back of his mind.
"Re-really…?" Yùn Yì asked, her voice trembling as she sniffled. "You won't get rid of me?"
Feng Shen turned away and walked back to the stone bath. "Yeah, so don't cry." He waved his hand dismissively at her:
"You can leave; I'm going to finish up some reading."
Feng Shen wasn't quite sure how to console a crying mortal, especially a woman.
They were simply too confusing, and he didn't want to make her even more upset, as that would jeopardize his future benefit.
So, Feng Shen wanted his personal servant to leave as soon as possible; otherwise, he knew he would slip up.
'Ugh~ I hate acting like this… It's fine… I just have to hold on until her Absolute Zero Physique reaches its highest level.'
Despite knowing why he needed this girl, Feng Shen still felt an overwhelming impulse to strangle her to death. It was a fleeting desire that he struggled to suppress.
That was yet another reason he wanted his personal servant to leave.
"Alright! Thank you, Second Young Master! I won't let you down!" Yùn Yì's tears had vanished, her sad expression replaced with enthusiasm.
She was now brimming with energy, eager to prove herself and work even harder.
'The Second Young Master is truly the kindest man I've ever met!' Yùn Yì thought to herself as she hurried out.
She couldn't understand why her fellow servants had told her that the Second Young Master was scary and cruel.
'What liars!'
Once his personal servant had slid closed the bamboo door, Feng Shen stepped back into the water, allowing himself to relax once more.
He glanced at the manuals laid out nearby. Without looking, he grabbed one.
"Shadow Step." Feng Shen read out the title.
He wasted no time flipping through the pages, letting his Sea of Consciousness take over.
Shadow Step, a technique that cultivators of all levels aspire to master. It allows them to move swiftly through shadows, disappearing into darkness and reappearing in a different location.
This technique requires a significant amount of Qi and precise control. Cultivators must be skilled in manipulating their Qi.
While powerful, Shadow Step is difficult to master; improper use can lead to disorientation or getting lost in the shadows.
As Feng Shen read through the manual, he couldn't help but remember the day he was judged—the day when that random Grand Elder had attempted to surprise attack him using Shadow Step.
'I should've spent more time playing with him…' He sighed.
A little regret filled Feng Shen. He honestly wished he had played with those so-called "toys" a bit longer instead of killing them so fast.
'If only they hadn't broke so easily!'
Shaking his head internally, Feng Shen reminded himself not to dwell on the past with regret.@@novelbin@@
In this new life, he was confident he could inflict even greater pain upon the cultivation world.
Thinking on that, Feng Shen felt a sick, twisted excitement about the future:
'Ahhh~ I can't wait... I can't wait! I'll tear through this cultivation world, twist it, taint it, drench it in blood! Their screams… they'll sound beautiful!'
What do you think?
