Heavens' Laughter

Chapter 38 Overreaction

Upon arriving at the dining hall, Yùn Yì opened the doors for the Second Young Master and motioned for him to enter:

"Please, enter at your leisure. I've ensured that your breakfast is prepared and waiting."

Yùn Yì could hardly contain her excitement.

She had worked diligently to create the best breakfast spread, ensuring that every dish was not only delicious but also healthy and nutritious.

'Hopefully, he'll praise me!' Yùn Yì thought to herself, a hopeful flutter in her chest.

Hearing this, Feng Shen felt his stomach grumble in response, prompting him to nod. "Good."

He was starving, having forgotten to eat dinner the night before, and nobody had informed him about it since he had ordered everyone not to bother him.

'Such fools! If one of them had informed me, I might have at least granted them a quick death!'

Though deep down, Feng Shen knew he wouldn't have spared them even then.

As he stepped inside, his golden eyes swept across the room, taking in the sight of his entire family gathered around the table.

They all turned their attention to him, pausing in their conversation.

"My second son! I apologize for waking you, but this is an important matter for our family to discuss!" Feng Yuanyun said, putting a piece of bacon in his mouth.@@novelbin@@

He appeared to be the only one pleased by his presence, having already started eating before his arrival.

Mei Lian and Feng Wuhao remained silent, both avoiding eye contact at all costs.

They were still terrified of him, especially after finding out that he had begun practicing techniques.

It also didn't help with the recent revelation of which all the elders were supporting him for the position of Patriarch, they were acutely aware of the precarious position they found themselves in.

So, they were determined to avoid saying anything that might place them on his bad side.

'Uh… I fucking hate this bastard…' Feng Wuhao thought to himself, a smirk playing on his lips as he contemplated the prospect of his little brother's demise:

'It's fine; soon he'll be dead…'

Feng Wuhao was very confident in this, knowing that he had paid for the best assassins in the entire Upper Realm—men and women renowned for their unwavering success and never having failed a single job.

However, he couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness, wanting to bite down on a handkerchief as he recalled how many Spiritual Stones he had spent.

'Uh~ I'm broke…'

The weight of his financial investment pressed heavily on Feng Wuhao's mind, especially since he had used up all his allowance for the year.

'It's fine… it's a sacrifice that must be made…' he reassured himself.

As he walked to his seat, followed by his personal servant, Feng Shen couldn't help but notice his older brother looking like an idiot, laughing quietly under his breath, as if he was scheming something mischievous.

'What the hell is his problem? Meh, whatever. I'm too hungry to care,' Feng Shen internally shrugged, as he turned his focus to his old man:

"So, what's so important?" he asked, settling into his seat and stretching his neck slightly.

Seeing that he had everyone's attention, despite his second son digging into his food like a pig, Feng Yuanyun took a moment to cough, signaling all the servants to leave the room, including the personal attendants.

Yùn Yì felt dejected. She had hoped to watch the Second Young Master eat more of his meal, eagerly awaiting the compliment she dreamed of hearing once he finished everything on his plate.

Once they were gone…

Feng Yuanyun then opened his mouth to speak:

"As you both know, the trials for the Soaring Academy are approaching, and I want to make myself perfectly clear. You two must not sabotage each other in any way, nor should you attempt to harm one another—"

"How could you say such a thing? Of course we wouldn't do that! We're blood brothers!" Feng Wuhao exclaimed, interrupting his father:

"I love my little brother; I always have, and I would never hurt him or jeopardize his future!"

"Hmm? Why not?" Feng Shen asked, looking up from his plate toward his older brother. "Are you an idiot? I would do everything in my power to sabotage you."

"Huh…?" Feng Wuhao shot a disbelieving glance at his little brother, unable to comprehend why he would outright admit such a thing.

It was always known to keep such dirty secrets to oneself, especially when they involved family.

"What? Don't look at me like that… I know damn well you want me dead." Feng Shen took a sip of water, patting his stomach afterward.

He was really filling himself up.

"Wh—…I—… Are you insane!?" Feng Wuhao yelled, slamming his hands anxiously onto the table. "You're accusing me of such a thing?"

Sweat began to form on his forehead, beads trickling down his skin. He had never expected his little brother to utter such words:

'Wait… does he know? Impossible! I was sure nobody was looking when I sent the note!'

Feng Shen rolled his eyes. "Oh, come on… why are you such a pussy? Just admit it; trust me, it's better for you."

Though he had had spoken those words in jest, his older brother's reaction revealed the truth: he genuinely wanted him dead.

Even with this newfound clarity, Feng Shen remained indifferent. He understood all too well why his brother wanted him dead.

'To think this fool would react like that,' he chuckled internally. 'At this point, he might as well shout to the entire cultivation world that he wants me dead.'

Mei Lian looked at her husband with a pale, worried expression, deeply concerned about what her second son was saying—how her first son wanted him dead.

She was pleading for him to say something with her eyes.

Mei Lian was hoping her husband would step in and defuse the situation before it spiraled out of control.

Especially seeing how agitated her first son was getting.

Feeling his wife's eyes on him, Feng Wuhao sighed heavily:

"Both of you, calm down… Please…" He looked over at his first son:

"You know your little brother is probably just playing around with you, right? So why overreact?"
