Vol. 12 - Chapter 693 - Grand Battle against Soul Beast Nestirad (1)

The area of spiritual disturbance drift adjacent to the fortress was a forested region filled with giant trees, stretching for tens of kilometers.

In the divine realm where resources were meagre, this spiritual disturbance drift was a hotspot to gain timber, a valuable resource, but the danger in these places came hand-in-hand in the form of sacred beasts. The said beasts were as strong as A or B rank monsters on the surface.

The words were that the centre of such domains was a territory of demigod-class sacred beasts, one whose power went above and beyond that of superior demons. And Nestirad was the boss of current spiritual disturbance drift, a formidable sacred beast that had even the beings of the divine realm astounded.

Of course, this was also Allen’s first time fighting a titan of this level.

They had no way to communicate with it either. Moreover, Nestirad would definitely jump on Allen's team the instant it notices them. But, if they could defeat it, they would have the «Heart of Nestirad»—a key item for Cecil to jump into Extra Mode.

The Summoner Bird A prompted the awakened skill «Homing Instinct» at the instruction, teleporting Allen's team in front of the giant tree.

«Nestirad is just up ahead of this tree. Everyone, you know the plan from last night. Act on it.»

(The tree shade can't completely hide Haku's silhouette after all. We have to spring in action promptly. Alright, do your best for Cecil's sake and take that heart, everyone.)

Kurena silently responded with a small nod, tapping Haku's foot in acknowledgment.

The expression of Allen comrade's grew serious as Allen communicated via the 'Transmission' special skill of Bird F.

Even the otherwise frolicking Haku was wearing a tense expression, putting only a single nod while suppressing voice in fear of making a squeal.

Through the special skill "Transmission" of their Bird F-class summon, everyone focuses their attention on Allen's words.

Even Haku, who often had unpredictable emotions, nodded quietly, maintaining a tense expression and without making a sound.

The Bird E shared its vision, which was locked onto Nestirad, to Allen And Merus. It was sitting cross-legged, head hanging downward. The beast was resting it seemed.

The beast's height typically depends on its mood, but for now, it was only 10m long.

Its right arm, which was about as long as its body, hangs limply toward the ground.

(That right arm is definitely going to be a problem huh. Never mind, it wouldn't do any good to burn braincell now. It's time to take action first and think later.)

After the ordeals in the divine realm, and phasing through jobs, his comrades had acquired a respected level of strength. Then they also had buffs especially from Rosalina and Merus before they teleported.

They decide to move quickly, not wasting a second to execute the plan.

«Alright, Dogora and Merus, follow the plan and circle around the giant tree from the left and right, then charge straight at it. Shea and Kurena, stay behind the two of them. Ignomas, stay further back. Just remember to keep Nestirad from getting to the rear-guard at all cost.»

(Kurena riding on Arbiter God could have been the perfect thing for the current mission, but alas, challenges never appear when you're fully prepared.)

The group had long settled the appropriate role for each, so Allen focused on general details.

The Arbiter God Farnames wasn't available in this region. Or else, Kurena could have performed divine skill «Super Charge» by riding on it, which would have allowed her to close the gap within a heartbeat, and that would have given the mid-guard and rear-guard a chance to organise properly.

The said divine technique was their super armor against formidable enemies, the ability to make a quick charge and perform a preemptive attack couldn't be emphasized enough. The summit of a vanguard was to give other units a chance to group themselves while they pin down the enemy. @@novelbin@@

But in their bad luck, Arbiter God wasn't available there.

Meanwhile, Merus prompted for agility enhanced among the other list of buffy that Angel B had in its arsenal.

'Carry everyone well,' Allen gave Dogora the silent probe. 'Leave it to me,' Dogora, too, implied with a firm gaze before he jumped out of the tree and bolted toward Nestirad along with Merus, each taking left and right.

Shea and Kurena followed after them, then Ignomas, and a moment later, Allen, Luck and Formar also split to left and right. And further behind Allen, leaving some space, Keel, Sophie and Rosalina focused on their task.

After seeing them off, Haku took her action next, and Merus was the only person left. Affirming Haku had distanced herself enough, Merus looked at the magic cube in front of him and commanded.

"Advent, Tam-Tam!!"

A magic circle momentary appeared in the mid air. The glimpse of Tam-Tam's leg had just been caught when the vanguard Dogora and Merus cut into the 10m range of Nestirad.

"Haaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!"

Grasping sacred artifact Kagutsuchi and Orichalcum Great Axe on each hand, Dogora released a war cry.

«Rrgh?!»

*Thump*

But it appeared Nestirad had long noticed Dogora the instant he came out from the shade of a huge tree. The giant heart, sticking out from the abdomen to the chest, gave a loud beat once, and with each pulse, the huge trees in the area creaked and shook.

Nestirad lifted its heavy head, its gaze turning toward the vanguard team as it curled the right hand into fist, putting it into the ground to raise its tall body. Meanwhile, the left hand—its two hands had mismatched length, with left behind nearly 5m long only—aimed for Dogora. It was bracing for the attack.

"Let's do it, Freya!!"

«Mmm-mm!! Brandish the power of my sacred artifact to your heart content, my apostle!!»

«Crud, you give someone's rest no heed? ...Huff, anyway, you do have guts to steal 'my' thing huh!!»

'Come and target me, you bastard,' Dogora riled up Nestirad to turn its entire focus on himself.

(Alright, the coordination is perfect for now.)

For Allen, who had fought Nestiard so many times alongside Merus, the most important factor in this battle was the *formation.*

«Pre-Planned Formation against Nestirad »

- Vanguard (Centre) : Dogora, Merus

- Vanguard (Right) : Kurena

- Vanguard (Left) : Shea

- Vanguard (2nd Line) : Ignomas

- On-Back Vanguard (Front) : Lubank

- On-Back Vanguard (2nd Line) - Magla

- Centre : Allen (Fused with Graham), Luck, Formar

- Rear-Guard : Keel, Sophie, Roselina

- Rear-Guard (2nd line) - Merus, Haku, Macris, Kuutoro

On the other hand, Nestirad boasted a staggering status while impervious to magic. But Allen believed it was far from an insurmountable opponent. After having fought Nestirad, Allen gained that conviction with the weak spot he found—He hadn't seen Nestirad using any sort of magical or physical ranged attack. Nestirad would fight in a rather crude battle style, devoid of any technique or form at all. Even for the skill, maybe coating fists in spiritual force was the only thing it knew, otherwise rest were zilch. And the said skill only had a range of 10m of course, as attack wouldn't hit anyone beyond that.

After sorting through the details the end tactic was—the vanguard would seal Nestirad movement, while mid-vanguard would support them, paving a secure foundation for the rearguard to blast it out.

By forming the right formation and protecting the midline and rear guard, Allen's group could focus on healing, support, and ranged attacks while maintaining a one-sided battle against Nestirad.

(We need to make sure the buffs don’t wear off. And debuffs too, I think.)

Allen's gaze shifted from Dogora to Luke.

Luke had manifested the great spirits and was directing them to cast bebuffs, ranging from agility down endurance and resistance, on Nestirad.

Meanwhile, on the left and right, Kurena and Shea were circling around to strike at Nestirad, covering mid-guard and rear-guard while also maintaining a vigilance, making sure their bastion—Dogora and Merus—remained always on their feet.

"Take this!!"

«*Graawww!!*»

"Tsk, missed the attack. Its movement is simple but is its reflex great!!"

(Heh, great!! Its movements are timed with our movements!! Dogora!!)

Dogora had attempted to slash at Nestriad with Kagutsuchi in a frontal clash, however Nestirade answered the incoming attack with a powerful left fist while gradually rising to its feet.

While the left hand was only half of the right hand length, the first was still massive enough to completely hold an adult in it.

Dogoro reacted by cancelling his slash, and kicked off the ground, landing at the top of Nestirad's left arm. With the leverage, he dashed forward and momentary closed the gap.

It was hard to gauze out Nestirad's intelligence, nevertheless it didn't show any sign of using complicated skills or magic, neither there was any big reaction from it. It seemed like it naively thought Dogora would definitely make a counterattack or defend himself once he's targeted.

Once Dogora got close enough to Nestiard’s shoulder, he swung both great axes down in a cross-pattern from each side. The thick, pulsing veins in Nestirad’s neck bulged close to the surface of its skin.

Dogora channeled the entirety of his strength into his hands to cleave Nestirad's vital point.

With all his strength, Dogora aimed to cleave the creature's vital points, putting all his might into the strike.

*Clang!*

*Clang!*

But, regardless of how hard he mowed down, the blade of his axes only left behind a trail of spark. The only changes to occur were his strikes striking a rhythm with Nestirad's pulse beating.

(It's not even flinching at my attacks. Nope, no normal attack would make a difference I guess then.)

Dogora had many of the striking skills with which he could go toe-to-toe against even a giant, but they took long to activate. So he was prompted to flash forward and performed the fastest strike he could muster, albeit not using any skill, but that didn't break the situation any bit.

«How long do you plan to perch on my shoulder?»

«Dogora, fall back immediately!!»

Shea in her divine beast form suddenly roared.

Nestirad's right hand was finally free after getting back to its feet, so the next thing it too was swing the hand on its shoulder. It was like he was merely swatting a fly.

Dogora only saw a wall-ish something covering his gaze, and soon had all his escape route sealed.

"I know—gaahh!"

He was just about to respond to Shea's shout, but the incoming palm—it was overall twice the size of his body—sent him flying over 10m, cutting his words in between.

The divine Orichalcum armor forged by the master blacksmith, Habarak, cracked under the force.

"Heal!!"

Keel immediately provided support with the level 1 'Heal.' He did have many advanced recovery magics but this one had required the shortest time to cast.

Dogora spitted blood on the other hand, but the incoming recovery magic completely healed him. Keel must have deduced even simple healing would be enough to recover from the damage completely.

«Nestirad has completely entered combat mode. Now, this is where our true act starts. Dogora has risked himself to give us the perfect formation, so it's on you to defend this till the last of your breath, vanguards!!»

Allen's speech echoed in the mind of his comrades.

The vanguards at the forefront might not be able to see the support behind, but Allen made them assured to follow on their plan. The support will definitely have their back.

In the present battlefield, only Allen and Meruse had the bird-view of the entire situation, as they could share their vision with the summoned beasts. After all, a lapse in vigilance could easily create a gap, so they'd have to tightly keep watch on their movement.

"Roger! I will definitely hold the vanguard!!"

«Rrrr! You may have not seen the weight of this one's fist it appeared!!»

Nestriad tightly clenched his right hand into a fist, his expression scrunched in a resentment as it glared at everyone present. However no was suppressed by that act.

If anything, Kurena and Shea jumped forward to fill in the gap Dogora's absence had caused and chased it with their own attacks.
