Chapter 74: 74. Man, SUV, and Dog_1
Upon hearing Song Tan’s words, Sun Shouping’s brow twitched slightly.
But quickly, he suppressed his emotions and then, sighing, began to pet the four dogs’ heads:
“The names I gave them here were pretty arbitrary, just serial numbers. After you get home, you can give them names to start getting familiar and comfortable with them.”
“They’re very smart, they’ll understand.”
Song Tan nodded in agreement.
By now, she had seven dogs.
Although naming them was hard, she already had some ideas in mind: “By the way, can you make dog tags here?”
Sun Shouping laughed: “Of course! I made the tags they’re wearing myself. Think about the names, and I’ll engrave them for you later.”
Having said that, he turned and went into the room, took out familiar mats, towels, plush toys, and chewing balls for each of the four dogs, reluctantly packing them into a box.
Then, he left the place together with Song Tan.
The other dozen or so dogs, seeing their siblings following their owner out, seemed to realize something and started whimpering pitifully.
Casro, who had been silent all this time, suddenly turned back and gave a deep “woof.” Instantly, all the dogs quieted down again, silently watching them leave.
Sun Shouping felt a tinge of redness around his eyes as he continued to explain to Song Tan: “Actually, it’s okay. My dogs are quite popular in the market, and people come to pick them often. They’re used to it.”
As they stepped out, they found Zhang Yanping, already lost in the joy of playing with the puppies, and hadn’t noticed the two of them.
It was only when the group of puppies suddenly quieted down and rushed over that he turned his head—
“Wow!”
“These four dogs are looking sharp!”
He came forward and slapped Sun Shouping’s shoulder hard:
“Good brother! It had to be you! Such a noble gesture—how much are they?”
Song Tan answered, “Three thousand each.”
At that, even Zhang Yanping was moved:
“Brother, I didn’t realize you were so generous…”
He fumbled in his pocket and finally pulled out a cold steamed bun wrapped in a plastic bag:
“For great kindness, I have nothing to repay, this is the steamed bun I managed to save… now, take it!”
Sun Shouping’s feelings of reluctance and sorrow vanished in an instant!
He snatched the steamed bun fiercely: “Alright! I’ll eat this for dinner tonight!”
Seeing Zhang Yanping’s feigned reluctance, he felt even more speechless:
“And you, telling me your sister is a novice at picking dogs. Can a novice have an eye for dogs like hers, picking the right one every time?”
“All of them are top-notch dogs from my lot! I wouldn’t usually part with them so readily!”
But this time, it was rare that his dogs took such an initiative… Sigh.
Hopefully, they’ll have a good life in the future. Guarding mountains and forests, although they probably won’t have meals that are 100% carefully balanced, at least they’ll have freedom.
Zhang Yanping also cast a surprised glance at Song Tan.
Song Tan helplessly responded, “Brother Yanping, I really don’t have experience in picking dogs. It’s purely that these dogs have a high standard; they knew at a glance that I have a promising future. What can I do about it?”
Zhang Yanping withdrew his gaze.
Whether his cousin had experience in picking dogs, he didn’t know.
But this thick-skinned attitude was a true trademark of a businessperson.
Then thinking about the price of three thousand per dog, he realized his buddy really hadn’t made a profit, and wasn’t sure what to say for a moment.
He simply pointed outside again: “Your customer outside? I see them standing there smoking for a long while.”
The cigarette butts on the ground had piled up to a dozen or more.
Sun Shouping glanced over and also felt helpless.
“Let him smoke there, blow off some steam.”
Song Tan seemed to remember something and asked curiously, “What kind of dog does he have? Why didn’t I see it this time? It looks so big, even bigger than any of mine.”
Sun Shouping smiled proudly,
“That’s the Turkish National Dog—Kangal!”
“I don’t have any adult dogs here, only puppies, you definitely didn’t see one.”
Zhang Yanping had never heard of such a dog and it took him a while to ask, “Seems like I’ve heard about it online, something called Anatolia?”
Sun Shouping scolded him with a laugh, “Stop faking it if you don’t know your stuff. This is a genuine Turkish Kangal, not Anatolian. It can kill a Tibetan Mastiff in minutes, a true fierce dog!”
“This dog enjoys the right to live like a citizen in Turkey, do you know what they call it?”
“— God’s Pet!”
“The status of the giant panda in our country is what the Kangal has in theirs.”
Zhang Yanping’s eyes were already filled with dollar signs—
“With such an incredible pedigree, breeding them must be very profitable, right?”
Sun Shouping was speechless, “Money, money, money! That’s all you think about.”
“Even a puppy here costs twenty-one thousand each, forget about the others.”
“Besides, ordinary people can’t afford to keep them. One meal would cost you a week’s worth of food expenses. I wouldn’t be willing to sell without seeing some assets.”
Zhang Yanping glanced at the silent SUV outside and the man who was still despondently smoking,
“So, what’s his story? Bought one and couldn’t afford to keep it, so he’s returning the dog?”
Sun Shouping also sighed,
“Yes.”
“Actually, returning such a large dog after it has bonded with an owner is quite a burden for me.”
“But this person is different, he truly loves dogs.”
“That dog, as a puppy plus some training fees and all, cost him a solid thirty thousand. For the twenty-one thousand puppies, he came in person to choose, I trained it for six months, and he even bought a large car to transport it.”
“Just to keep it, he specially built a villa in the countryside.”
“He didn’t raise it for status but for real love!”
But suddenly, his business suffered a loss, and he was left with nothing but a school district apartment in the city for his child’s education.
The villa in the countryside was sold at a discount.
And, the dog could no longer be kept.
“For one, the city does not allow it.”
“Second, the dog eats too much in one meal. If you let it maintain its exercise and eat its fill, it could finish off a hundred or so pounds in a day.”
Zhang Yanping gasped in shock.
Sun Shouping quickly laughed, “It’s not that exaggerated, I was talking about if you let it go all out. With normal activity, it doesn’t eat that much, and it doesn’t require all meat.”
But even so, these numbers sound terrifying, don’t they?
Zhang Yanping, who had been somewhat stirred by the idea of a large dog, was instantly calmed.
“It’s really too expensive to keep.”
And with a dog this large, it could become vicious, and most people couldn’t handle it. He was afraid to keep one, too afraid to keep one.
Sun Shouping gave a wry smile, “Although Kangals are brave, they are not violent or aggressive and are exceptionally gentle with children and extremely loyal. But with such large dogs, just their appearance can be terrifying enough…”
He looked outside at the SUV with a sigh,
“It’s because of its loyalty, it knew its owner couldn’t afford it, so it ate only a pound or two of meat per meal for a whole week.”
“That big guy would cry at home watching it eat, cry watching it eat.”
“Those rich friends of his were willing to take it and help with its care… but the dog wouldn’t accept a new owner, no way.”
“He drove over early this morning, asking if I could continue to keep it?”
What do you think?
