Chapter 261: The Sucker
Chapter 261: Chapter 261: The Sucker
The elderly lady urged Qiao Yun to come back more often when she was free to keep them company.
As people age, they don’t ask for much, just hoping for their children and grandchildren to be by their side, to create a lively atmosphere.
Qiao Yun didn’t mind, and would occasionally come back to see them.
As the group lingered at the front gate, unable to part, a car drove in.
A middle-aged man with refined scholarly characteristics got out of the car.
Wearing gold-rimmed glasses and a black suit, every move he made exuded a literary charm.
...
“Big brother, I’m about to leave, and only now you’re coming back,”
Lu Rui, upon seeing his own brother, couldn’t hide his joy and went forward to pat Lu Xian on the shoulder.
“It’s my fault. I heard you all had come back and I hurried to finish up my work, but I’m still late. Why not stay for the night so we can have a proper chat? It’s been so long,” Lu Xian spoke eloquently as well.
Lu Rui waved his hand dismissively, “Not this time, next time maybe.”
Qiao Yun’s gaze fell on Lu Xian.
Unlike Lu Rui’s stern and steady demeanor, Lu Xian seemed more gentle.
No wonder the old master preferred Lu Rui because whenever Lu Rui stood, he could intimidate those under him.
“You must be Qiao Yun,” Lu Xian said with a smile that added to his mature charm.
Qiao Yun did not address him formally, just nodding instead.
Lu Xian didn’t mind her not addressing him formally, taking her shyness into account. He reached out his large hand and ruffled Qiao Yun’s hair.
“It’s good you’re here.”
Qiao Yun didn’t dodge, because with everyone watching, she couldn’t disrespect Lu Xian.
“Have you eaten? Are you tired from work?” Qin Huan interjected timely, her face so tender it seemed it might drip with sweetness.
For a man she could rely on, she naturally knew how to behave.
Their marriage had been hastily arranged because of pregnancy, and if she hadn’t been sensible, Lu Xian might not have stayed with her for over a decade.
Lu Xian responded to Qin Huan with a grunt, his attitude not overly affectionate.
After all, he felt not love but familial affection for Qin Huan, built over more than a decade of being together.
Qin Huan was used to it and didn’t harbor hopes for Lu Xian to dote on and protect her like Lu Rui did with Su Mian; she clearly knew what she wanted.
Is love more appealing than wealth, status, or fame?
However, occasionally she envied Su Mian for having a loving husband.
“You’re studying at Shengyang University, right? If you encounter any difficulties, you can reach out to your uncle; one of the board directors at your school is a friend of mine,” Lu Xian expressed his care for this niece whom he had not met many times.
“Okay, I’ll keep that in mind,” Qiao Yun replied nonchalantly.
Shengyang had several honorary board directors with no real authority, meant only to impress, and they were among her students.
She didn’t expect her uncle to know them; indeed, the world was small.
Their conversation wasn’t long as Lu Rui soon left with his family.
On the way home, Qiao Yun sent a message to Pei Ya, asking him to help send some items over.
[What do you need that thing for? I thought you had thrown it away.]
[It’s a gift.]
Qiao Yun prepared a meeting gift for Lu Shiran.
[Another gift! Boss, let’s talk about this, you shouldn’t keep giving gifts at every turn; the great Professor Qiao shouldn’t be taken advantage of.]
Qiao Yun justified herself firmly: [I have too much money and can’t spend it all.]
Pei Ya: “…” Alright then, the poor wage worker will focus on earning money.
Qiao Yun was far from being taken advantage of.
Her principle was reciprocity, owing nothing to anyone.@@novelbin@@
What Qiao Yun didn’t realize was that because she lacked a sense of money, the gifts she gave were often much more valuable than the ones she received.
In Pei Ya’s eyes, that was unfair.
If it wasn’t being a sucker, then was she a philanthropist dedicating herself to aiding the suffering common people?
What do you think?
