Chapter 291: Chapter 291: Another Paternity Test

They knew Qiao Yun’s past experiences might be fake, which shocked him, and also led to doubt.

If she was their biological child, why fabricate a past?

What exactly did they want to hide?

Even though his granddaughter was very well-behaved and he liked Qiao Yun a lot, he still had to verify the facts.

Thinking about this, the old man’s expression paused.

If they had really chosen to hide something, they wouldn’t have sent the real deal, not fearing their realization…

...

Before the old man could figure it out, he heard Lu Rui retort angrily, “Dad! This assumption is outrageous; she is my flesh and blood! Your current suspicions are hurting Qiaoqiao’s feelings.”

The old man’s expression froze for a moment, and he sighed, “Have you heard about the Ye Family’s scandal?”

Lu Rui certainly knew about it.

The Ye Family was a prominent figure in Shangjing City too, having caused a stir last year with a child-switching incident.

Their audacious nanny, over two decades earlier, had secretly switched the Ye family’s lady’s child with her own.

Back then, nobody expected the nanny to be so bold; naturally, they didn’t conduct a paternity test.

Later, the nanny’s child was raised in luxury and pampered, while the real young master of the Ye Family was raised in abuse.

It wasn’t until the child had a car accident and needed a blood transfusion that the blood types of Mr. and Mrs. Ye didn’t match, that they began to notice something was amiss.

According to the nanny’s confession, she did this because she wanted her son to grow up and inherit the Ye Family’s wealth, so she too could enjoy the luxury and wealth.

In the end, it was all for money.

“What does this have to do with Qiaoqiao?”

Lu Rui paused briefly, then looked at his father in disbelief, “You don’t think that someone has the same intentions as that nanny, do you, and then gave me a fake daughter?”

The old man didn’t speak, his brow furrowed as if in deep thought.

Lu Rui took a deep breath, his expression growing serious, “I couldn’t possibly be mistaken about my own daughter.”

The old man asked, “How did you find Qiaoqiao in the first place?”

Lu Rui replied, “The Yuncheng Public Security Bureau notified us.”

The old man narrowed his eyes, “We’ve been looking for fifteen years without a clue, and suddenly we were notified that she was found. Throughout this, the Lu Family has been in a passive position.”

“It might be because the technology was not advanced before, but now with the technology so developed, even those missing for decades can be found.”

The old man was noncommittal about this statement, then asked, “Where did you find Qiaoqiao? I will visit the place myself one of these days.”

However, Lu Rui didn’t answer right away, furrowing his brows and appearing somewhat troubled.

“What’s wrong?”

“Sigh, I don’t know where it is either.”

“?” The old man was puzzled, “What do you mean?”

Lu Rui then told the old man about his attempt to donate to the village, which seemed to have vanished into thin air, and how they hadn’t found it.

After listening, the old man said irritably, “With such a bizarre situation, you still think I’m being overly suspicious?”

“It’s different. You’re suspecting that Qiaoqiao isn’t my biological daughter, I just want to know what happened to the village.”

From the situation with the village, Lu Rui had guessed that Qiao Yun was keeping something from them.

But he never doubted that Qiao Yun was not his daughter.

“Now, have you found any clues?”

Lu Rui said with regret, “There’s still no news. I asked the people at the city bureau, and nobody knows.”

The old man, having lived longer than Lu Rui, quickly realized that the village was not simple, and it seemed to have a high level of secrecy.

For there to be a village in the city that the people below didn’t know about, he refused to believe that those higher up were unaware.

“I have a way to find out about the village,” the old man, with broader connections than Lu Rui, said, now having a direction to investigate, which he figured wouldn’t be too hard to uncover.

After saying this, he hesitated for a moment but still decided to voice his thoughts.

“You and Qiaoqiao should do another paternity test. It would put my mind at ease.”

“I won’t agree to that,” Lu Rui stated firmly.

“Let’s drop it then. Consider it my overthinking,” the old man didn’t insist, convinced that once the village was clarified, the mysteries surrounding Qiaoqiao would be unraveled.

Lu Rui’s face remained stern, still somewhat uneasy.

The old man brought it up no more, and instead said, “By the way, bring me the painting Qiaoqiao gave you one of these days.”

“What for?” The sudden change of subject caught Lu Rui off guard.

“Can’t I just have a look at it? It’s a fake anyway, what’s the point of you keeping it?”

A look of eagerness appeared on the old man’s face.

In his heart, he had already made a clear plan, wanting to claim the painting before his son found out it was authentic.

Lu Rui thought to himself that his father was now smiling a bit too slyly.
