Chapter 527 527: Story 527: Surrounded
The orb's blinding pulse faded, leaving the ZETU team momentarily stunned. When their vision cleared, the wreckage site was even more perilous. The horde of zombies surrounding them had doubled, now spilling out from the dense fog of the woods and the shattered buildings nearby. Grotesque, decayed figures shuffled closer, their guttural groans blending into a haunting symphony of death.
"We're boxed in!" Sergeant Jenna 'Blaze' Hart shouted, her flamethrower roaring to life as she incinerated a wave of advancing undead.
Captain Marcus Kane surveyed the scene quickly, his shotgun poised to fire. "Shield, form a perimeter! Quick Shot, pick off anything that gets too close to Brain!"
Perched on a tilted section of the wreckage, Officer Riley 'Quick Shot' Bennett steadied her sniper rifle. "I'm on it!" she barked, her precise shots taking down zombies that were closing in on Ethan 'Brain' O'Connor.
Inside the wreckage, Brain frantically worked at his console, sweat pouring down his face. "This device isn't just broadcasting—it's some kind of energy source," he called out. "I think it's drawing them here, like a magnet!"
"Then disable it!" Detective Lila 'Huntress' Navarro shouted, firing her pistols with precision as she danced around the wreckage, keeping the zombies at bay. "We won't last long with this many!"
Shield moved like an unbreakable wall, his massive riot shield bashing back the undead as they clawed at him. "We're running out of time, Kane!" he yelled.
Kane reloaded his shotgun with practiced speed and fired into the nearest cluster of zombies, dropping them instantly. "Blaze, can you thin the horde on the east side?"
"On it!" Blaze replied, releasing a torrent of fire that engulfed a line of zombies. The flames lit up the foggy clearing, casting eerie shadows on the advancing horde.
Brain's fingers flew across his keyboard as the orb's pulsating glow grew more erratic. "Got it!" he finally yelled. "I can disable it, but it's going to release an energy surge. Everyone needs to brace for impact!"
"Do it!" Kane ordered.
Brain hit the final command, and the orb emitted a deafening screech before exploding in a shockwave of blue energy. The blast sent zombies flying in all directions, their decayed bodies crashing into the wreckage and the ground. The team staggered but held their ground.
As the dust settled, the clearing fell into an eerie silence. The remaining zombies stood motionless, their hollow eyes flickering as if the energy surge had scrambled their basic instincts.
"What the hell just happened?" Quick Shot asked, lowering her rifle cautiously.
Brain stepped out of the wreckage, his face pale. "That wasn't just a beacon—it was controlling them. Someone's experimenting with technology to weaponize these things."
Kane clenched his jaw, scanning the silent, smoking battlefield. "This isn't just about survival anymore. Someone's pulling the strings, and it's up to us to find them."
In the distance, a faint, distorted laugh echoed through the fog. The team froze, their weapons at the ready.
"Looks like we're not alone," Huntress whispered.
The episode ends as the team prepares to face whatever—or whoever—has been orchestrating the chaos.
What do you think?
