Chapter 616 616: Story 616: Shadows of the Undead

The air was thick with decay as General Viktor 'Bloodfang' Kruger stood in the center of the desolate village, gripping his combat knife. The sky was a sickly gray, mirroring the lifeless corpses strewn across the ground. But these corpses did not remain still.

A low growl echoed through the ruins. The first zombie—a rotting soldier in tattered fatigues—lurched forward, its hollow eyes fixed on Kruger. More followed, their twisted forms emerging from the shadows of broken buildings.

Kruger exhaled sharply, tightening his grip. "So, this is their new game?" he muttered, unholstering his sidearm. A precise headshot took down the first zombie, but the rest were undeterred, driven by an insatiable hunger.

From a nearby rooftop, Sergeant Darius "Hellhound" Rook watched through his scope. "General, we got a horde incoming from the east. About thirty of them." His voice crackled over the radio.

Kruger didn't hesitate. He reached into his vest, pulling out a fragmentation grenade. "Let's see if they still like fireworks." He yanked the pin and tossed it. The explosion sent body parts flying, but still, the horde pressed on.

Then came the real abomination—a Titan-Class Undead, its bloated form towering over the others. Its flesh was reinforced with patches of bone-like armor, and its hands were sharpened into jagged claws.

Kruger cracked his neck. "Alright, you ugly bastard. Let's dance."

The Titan roared, charging with unnatural speed. Kruger dodged just in time, rolling to the side and slashing its knee with his knife. The beast staggered but swung wildly, forcing Kruger to retreat.

Above, Eva "Black Widow" Morales rappelled from a nearby building, twin daggers flashing. She landed gracefully behind the Titan and plunged both blades into its back. The creature shrieked but refused to fall.

"We need something bigger," she growled.

Kruger smirked, pulling out an incendiary round for his shotgun. "I got just the thing." He loaded the shell, aimed at the Titan's exposed chest, and fired. The round ignited upon impact, engulfing the creature in flames.

The beast thrashed violently before collapsing, its roars fading into silence.

Kruger wiped blood from his blade and turned to his squad. "This infection is evolving. We need to find out who's behind it."

Dr. Sylvia "Plague Mistress" Voss' voice crackled over the comms. "General, I have intel. There's a lab ten miles from your position. That's where this all started."

Kruger narrowed his eyes. "Then that's where we're going."

As the last embers of the Titan-Class Undead burned, the true horror of their mission became clear—this was only the beginning.
