Chapter 644: Story 644: No Room for the Weak

The factory's skeletal remains creaked under the weight of the storm outside. Lightning flashed, illuminating the twisted steel beams and rusted machinery, momentarily casting long shadows over the carnage below. General Viktor "Bloodfang" Kruger stood at the center of the slaughter, his combat knife dripping with blackened, necrotic blood. His crimson beret remained untouched, a symbol of his iron will amid the chaos.

Behind him, the bodies of Wolfe's Flesh Revenants twitched and spasmed, their broken forms still trying to rise. Kruger sneered. Even in death, they defied him.

A low, mechanical growl filled the air.

Kruger turned, his grip tightening around his knife. The Revenant was still standing. Its cybernetic enhancements hissed, pumping unknown stimulants through its rotting veins. Sparks crackled from its armored plating where bullets had failed to penetrate. It was a walking fortress of flesh and steel.

"Kruger…" it growled, its voice barely human. "You… are obsolete."

Kruger wiped a streak of blood from his cheek with the back of his hand, then rolled his shoulders. "I've heard worse."

The Revenant charged, its clawed arms tearing through the air. Kruger didn't flinch. He sidestepped the attack with military precision, his knife flashing as he drove it deep into the creature's side.

The beast barely reacted. It was beyond pain. Beyond reason.

With a snarl, it lashed out, sending Kruger crashing into a pile of broken scaffolding. Pain shot through his ribs, but he ignored it. He had survived worse.

Rook's voice crackled in his earpiece. "Sir! We've got incoming—more of Wolfe's undead! We need to move!"

Kruger exhaled sharply, rising to his feet. His gaze remained locked on the Revenant. "Fall back to the secondary position. This thing is mine."

"Sir—"

"That's an order, Sergeant."

Silence. Then, reluctantly, Rook responded, "Understood. See you on the other side."

Kruger flexed his fingers around the grip of his knife. The Revenant's glowing red eyes flickered as it recalibrated its targeting. This would not be a fight of attrition. It would be about who struck first, and who struck hardest.

The Revenant lunged. Kruger moved.

With inhuman speed, he sidestepped the attack, ducked low, and drove his knife straight through the beast's exposed jaw.

For the first time, it screamed.

Kruger twisted the blade. A sickening crack. A gurgle. The Revenant's movements slowed.

He grabbed one of its cybernetic cables and yanked hard, severing its neural control system. The lights in its eyes flickered… then died.

The beast collapsed, its metal plating clanking against the bloodstained floor.

Kruger exhaled, wiping his knife clean. No room for the weak.

Now, it was time to finish Wolfe.
