Chapter 22: How to Steal the Mage's Woman [6]
As soon as my first class began after becoming an official student, the professor announced.
"Starting today, the Magic Circle Application class will be taught by Assistant Professor Jo."
"Please take good care of me."
The assistant professor standing next to the professor greeted us.
Clap! Clap! Clap!
I pretended to clap while observing the assistant professor's demeanour.
He was dressed similarly to the other professors in black robes, but for a mage, he seemed quite bulky.
He looked to be in his mid-30s.
And his demeanour...
'From a professor with a nasty demeanour to an assistant professor with a nasty demeanour...'
[What's the difference?]
'There is a difference...'
It's hard to explain, but while the professor gave off the vibe of someone who would nitpick every little detail, the assistant professor seemed like the type who wouldn't let things slide quietly if he caught you doing something wrong.
After finishing his speech, the professor stepped down from the podium.
"Then, I'll be on my way."
"I'll make sure to guide the students without any issues."
The assistant professor bowed respectfully to the departing professor.
Thud!
As soon as the professor left, the assistant professor stepped onto the podium and began scanning the students.
It felt like he was scanning us.
As he slowly turned his head, his gaze landed on me.
Suddenly, he smirked at me.
I felt a chill run down my spine.
'What the hell, why is that bastard smiling? Is he gay or something!?'
[He's not looking at you, Suho. He's looking at Luna Schtartfeld.]
'Phew… that's a relief. I was so scared….'
I almost relived the trauma I experienced during the self-defence squad incident.
After staring at Luna for a while, the assistant professor finally looked away and began the class.
The class proceeded as usual, focusing on drawing magic circles.
As soon as the class started, the assistant professor set the tone and began talking about an upcoming test.
"In one week, we'll be conducting a Magic Circle Application test. You'll need to be able to draw not only the simple shapes you've been practising but also runes. The test will cover input, output, and coordinates of magic circles, so pay attention during class. Understood?"
"""Yes."""
'Ugh~~'
[...]
After that, the class continued, and I could definitely feel that the difficulty level had increased significantly.
According to the assistant professor, this was still beginner-level education, but there were plenty of students here who were seeing runes for the first time.
If yesterday's class felt like a children's art class, today's felt like a children's writing class.
'Hehehe, this is a complete mess.'
[It's understandable since everyone is using runes for the first time.]
'Wow, even Luna seems to be struggling, huh?'
I glanced at the seat next to me and saw Luna diligently drawing runes.
The characters themselves were drawn neatly, but the size and placement of the runes were all over the place, making it look messy.
I chuckled softly as I watched Luna and then spread my hands on the desk, channelling the aura of a creator.
'Hmph, you fools... I'll show you what true skill looks like.'
[...]
I began drawing runes in the air.
Even though I was seeing these characters for the first time, I drew them flawlessly in the air, each one precise and well-proportioned.
The position, size, and shape were all perfect.
Luna glanced at the runes I had drawn and compared them to her own.
After staring for a while, she erased her runes and started over, focusing intently.
She definitely improved compared to before.
Well, compared to before...
'Hehe, keep trying.'
[Suho, the assistant professor is heading this way.]
'Gasp!'
I focused on drawing the runes, making sure not to give him any reason to pick on me like before.
But the assistant professor wasn't coming toward me.
He was heading straight for Luna.
The assistant professor stood behind Luna, watching her diligently draw runes, and said.
"Ahem, you're doing quite well for a beginner."@@novelbin@@
"Thank you."
"That rune over there should be moved a bit to the side..."
The assistant professor seemed to have completely forgotten about the class and was fully engrossed in talking to Luna from behind her.
An uncomfortable atmosphere began to spread among the other students.
No one would be happy with this kind of behaviour on the first day...
'Wow... no one's saying anything. Not even to the assistant professor.'
[Since the assistant professor is essentially the one who can influence the professor, you should be careful too, Suho.]
'I don't care. But it's annoying that he's being so noisy next to me.'
In the end, the class ended with the assistant professor's antics.

After the Magic Circle Application class, I attended my first other subject.
Basic Elemental Studies.
It was a subject that taught the fundamentals of the elements used in magic.
Even if you didn't use a particular element, you still had to learn it for countermeasures.
As soon as the class started, I saw a woman standing on the podium and shouted to Armonia.
'Armonia! Show me that woman's traits right now!'
[...Weren't you focusing on Luna?]
'Just show me! I'm too curious!'
The student council president was someone I wouldn't normally interact with, but the woman on the podium was different.
The status window of the woman on the podium appeared.
=====
[Name: Sonya Friedrich]
[-Traits -]
[Magic Power LV30], [Diligence], [Positivity], [Kindness]...
=====
Sonya Friedrich.
She was a part-time professor teaching Basic Elemental Studies.
She had blue, medium-length hair and exuded a mature charm.
On top of that, her bright smile instantly melted away the students' wariness.
"I'm Sonya Friedrich, and I'll be teaching your Basic Elemental Studies starting today. Nice to meet you."
She greeted us politely with a smile.
Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap!
The applause was louder than usual.
I compared Sonya to Luna, who was sitting next to me.
Luna was definitely more beautiful.
But Sonya had a mature charm that Luna lacked.
Clearly, everyone had their own unique charm.
'Looking at Luna, she really does seem like a kid. Luna's prettier, though.'
[She looks to be in her late 20s.]
'And I like her traits too.'
Her status window was filled with traits befitting a passionate educator.
While I was admiring Sonya, she began the class.
"Basic Elemental Studies is extremely important. The primary and secondary elements you'll choose in a week could change based on this class."
True to its name, the class focused on the big picture of how to learn and master elements, rather than getting bogged down in minor details.
"Let's start with the basic properties of the elements."
She drew a simple magic circle in the air and activated it.
Given the small size of the magic circle, all that came out was a fireball about the size of a baseball.
"As you all know, we'll start with the fire element. Most renowned mages are famous for using fire as their primary element."
The reason fire was so widely loved was that it was well-balanced in all aspects.
Destructive power, mana consumption, difficulty in drawing the magic circle...
While other elements had their own strengths, fire didn't have any particular weaknesses.
"Well, it's weak against water, but that's a different story."
Next came the water element.
"The strength of the water element lies in its versatility. It doesn't consume as much mana as Wind, and its magic circles are easier to draw than Earth. Plus, you don't necessarily have to create water; you can use the water around you."
However, its downside was that its lethality was quite low when used on a small scale.
It was more suited for large-scale battles, but drawing large magic circles made it less practical.
"But this water element is favoured by our school's headmaster, the great mage Ludwig Liebenstein. If you master the water element, it can be far more useful than fire."
Next was the wind element.
"The strength of the wind element lies in its mana efficiency. You can create large-scale winds with a small amount of mana. However, its downside is that it's difficult to maintain the magic circle, and its destructive power is low."
While it might seem suited for large-scale battles like water, it actually performs better in small-scale combat.
The wind blades that can be unleashed in a confined space, while not highly lethal, are invisible and can easily disorient the enemy.
"Earth element... Its destructive power is incomparable to the other elements. But that destructive power comes at the cost of extremely high mana consumption. The earth element was historically used in combination with fire for large-scale siege battles."
However, it's rarely used nowadays.
Especially in schools, students tend to avoid it due to the high mana consumption.
In other words, it's an unpopular element.
"Now, let's take a look at the magic circles of these four elements..."
"Professor."
"Yes?"
"May I ask a question?"
It was Luna, sitting next to me.
"Of course, go ahead."
Sonya smiled at Luna and gestured for her to speak.
"Thank you. I was wondering... could you tell us about the lightning element?"
"Ah... I'm sorry. I didn't think about that part."
"I'm sorry if I offended you. I was just curious..."
"No, not at all. I'm actually grateful you brought it up."
Sonya smiled at Luna and drew a small magic circle the size of her palm.
It was a dangerous-looking magic circle with yellow sparks flying off it.
"Does anyone here know anything about lightning magic?"
"..."
No one answered.
'Hehe, if I say "I know," would I get points deducted?'
[...I'm worried you might actually do it, Suho.]
When no one answered, Sonya's expression turned serious as she began her explanation.
"The lightning element... has no strengths."
The students' expressions were like throwing question marks at Sonya.
"It consumes a lot of mana, its destructive power is weakened by the lightning spreading in all directions, and its magic circles are incomparably harder to draw than other elements."
And it's not even good for utility.
While drawing the magic circle, it can explode and harm allies, or even if you manage to create it, the mana can scatter, preventing it from activating.
And the best part...
"Not long ago, 'Maximilian Winter,' who had been researching lightning magic for the longest time, died when his magic circle exploded..."
Sonya looked sorrowful as if mourning the wizard.
Everyone else also seemed to be mourning along with her.
Except for me.
'Hehehe, what an idiot. Dying from his own magic circle? Puhahaha.'
[...It seems to be an extremely difficult field.]
'Ah, I really want to laugh out loud, puhahaha.'
I lowered my head and tried to hold back my laughter.
I covered my mouth and barely managed to suppress the laughter threatening to burst out.
"Phew... Huh?"
"Are you okay?"
While I was struggling to hold back my laughter, Sonya appeared in front of my desk.
'...I'm screwed.'
[How are we going to get out of this situation...]
Armonia didn't seem to have a solution either.
A famous wizard died, and I'm laughing alone?
And I'm just a student who just enrolled in a prestigious magic school?
Wouldn't this be grounds for expulsion?
Well, I'm already screwed, so I might as well apologize first.
"Uh, well... I..."
"Did you know Maximilian?"
"...?"
What kind of random question is that...?
But Sonya's eyes didn't hold any contempt or anger.
Instead, she looked concerned.
She wasn't thinking that I was laughing; she thought I was crying.
"If you knew him, I was worried that I might have hurt you by carelessly mentioning his name..."
"Ah..."
I saw it.
The ending... no, the solution!!
I covered my eyes with my hands and made a choked-up sound, pretending to cry.
"I'm... I'm sorry... I respected him a lot..."
"Oh my..."
I couldn't see Sonya's expression right now, but it seemed like I had successfully dodged the situation.
'Armonia, how does Sonya look?'
[...She's crying.]
'Woohoo~~~ Jackpot! Uh, uh!?'
I was celebrating with Armonia through our mental link when suddenly someone pulled my head.
Squish~
"I'm so sorry... I didn't mean to hurt you..."
"Sniff!"
Sonya buried my face in her chest.
'I-I can't breathe! But it feels so good!!'
[...]
I couldn't tell when it was covered by her clothes, but this had to be at least an E-cup, right?
Sonya didn't just press my face against her chest; she buried my face in her cleavage.
Thanks to that, I forgot to breathe and instead absorbed her scent through my skin.
Huff~ Huff~ Huff~
Damn, I want to grab them!!!
Throb! Throb! (XX: Let's do it!)
Are you crazy? How can I do that here, in front of all the students?
Shiver! Shiver! (Viola's voice: Suho, do it!)
V-Viola? Really, can I do it? Okay!
If Viola says so, I have to do it.
[Suho, you need to calm down. Your expression is dangerous.]
'Gasp! Thanks, Armonia. I snapped out of it. Phew...'
Flap! Flap! (XX: Ah, damn it!)
I almost fell for Satan's temptation.
After swimming through her cleavage with my cheeks, I managed to escape before drowning.
Sonya pulled me out of her chest and wiped my face with both hands.
She was genuinely crying.
I almost shed tears of emotion because of her chest, but...
"I'm so sorry. Because of me... What should I do..."
What should you do? Just keep doing this...
"I-It's okay..."
Sonya finally calmed down and was able to continue the class.
Thanks to that incident, I had to endure the sharp glares of the male students for the rest of the class.
