Chapter 681: Myriad of Wards
The four people who made a move on Lu Ye were Ninth-Order Cloud River Realm Masters, and they had all injured him.
Tan Sheng’s spear struck Lu Ye’s ribs, and Xia Liang’s saber shattered his Spiritual Power Shield and jabbed into his figure. Following that, two powerful spells surrounded him and turned him into flames.
Under such a circumstance, Lu Ye had been struck with two spells without any protection. Honestly, if any one of these four people were attacked in such a way, he wouldn’t have survived. However, why wasn’t Lu Ye dead yet?
Soon, the ward where Lu Ye had snuck into was broken. Xia Liang immediately inspected it and saw some blood stains on the ground, but the man was nowhere to be seen.
[He’s not dead. That’ll be troublesome, then.]
Xia Liang fell into his thoughts. The best outcome would be Lu Ye being on his last legs. Although he wasn’t dead yet, he wouldn’t live for long. In that case, Xia Liang’s mission could be considered a success. Since he didn’t get Lu Ye’s corpse, he couldn’t trade it for a massive reward. However, their biggest threat was settled at the very least. With Lu Ye gone, Xia Liang could go looking for Li Baxian to get his revenge.
Nevertheless, that was merely the ideal outcome. He had to consider other possibilities.
For example, Lu Ye might only be injured and was hiding somewhere in the area to recuperate. In that case, when he recovered, he would break the ward and leave.
That guy was well-versed in the Way of Wards. Since he had left Hundred Wards Tower, his mastery must’ve improved tremendously.
At the thought of this, Xia Liang felt fidgety. Since coming across Lu Ye for the first time, everything had been going against his wishes. To kill the man, he had wasted several months of his cultivation time. While the cultivators from Thousand Demon Ridge were breaking the wards, Lu Ye, with a pale face, moved across the wards in the dangerous area and secretly felt glad.
Fortunately, the last attacks that struck him were Fire-Attribute Spell Techniques, which allowed him to activate the Tree of Glyphs’ power and survive. If it had been any other Attribute, he would’ve lost his life.
Xia Liang and the others wondered how he survived under such a circumstance. If they found out how he managed to kill Huo Liaoyuan from Cult Blackfyre, their doubt would be cleared.
With the Tree of Glyphs in his possession, Lu Ye’s resistance against Fire Spell Techniques was unrivalled.
Although he could fend off the Spell Techniques’ power, he couldn’t mitigate the impact. Therefore, he was badly injured after getting struck by two Fire Dragons.
Moreover, Xia Liang had jabbed a saber into his back before that.
Presently, it could be said that Lu Ye was severely wounded. He was already sluggish and muddle-headed because of the immense pressure on his soul. Now that his figure was also injured, he was in a horrible state.
Fortunately, he snuck into a dangerous area where it was covered with countless wards in time. He didn’t randomly choose where he wanted to sneak into.
Before he entered Hundred Wards Tower, he had already expected what might happen to him when he left the tower. He had wanted to make use of this dangerous area to get rid of his enemies, which was why he had the confidence to enter the tower despite knowing that he might fall into danger.
Before taking on the challenges in the tower, he had inspected his surroundings. The spot where he planned on sneaking into wasn’t far away from the tower’s entrance, and it was covered with a benign Mirage Ward.
Therefore, even though he didn’t remember many things when he left the tower, he recalled his escape plan the moment he was attacked. After getting struck by Tan Sheng’s spear, he made use of the situation and leapt in that direction.
If Xia Liang and the others had the guts to run after him, he would’ve been doomed.
However, no one dared to barge into the myriad of wards, which was why he had the chance to run for his life.
The Mirage Ward that he had entered must’ve been running for a long time, so it was extremely powerful. Any other Cloud River Realm Master would’ve been overwhelmed with illusions and lost a sense of direction.
Nevertheless, Lu Ye’s soul was much stronger than those of the cultivators in the same Realm. He had only been slightly affected, but he managed to pull himself together soon.
He didn’t choose to break the ward. Instead, he used his way and left the Mirage Ward. That way, the ward would still be useful in obstructing the people who might run after him.
He quickly activated Insight and looked around. All sorts of wards had been hidden around him, and the amount was staggering.
With the help of Insight, all these wards were visible to his eyes, which helped him save a lot of time.
He moved through the gap of these wards and walked forward. However, he soon came to a dead end. He looked around and realised all the wards were closely connected, leaving no gap. Unless he chose to stay there, he would inevitably barge into unknown wards.
Left with no choice, he could only enter a ward that looked less intimidating and move in a different direction.
Two hours later, he still couldn’t leave this dangerous area that was covered with wards regardless of how hard he tried.
Moreover, he was embarrassed to realise that he had lost his sense of direction.
Supposedly, such a thing would never happen to him. After all, he was a Sixth-Order Cloud River Realm Master.
Nevertheless, with so many wards around, his judgement had been affected. Furthermore, he was in a horrible state as he was wounded both mentally and physically. As such, something that shouldn’t have happened took place anyway.
Since he felt dizzy, he decided to stop in his tracks. Realising he couldn’t leave this place in a hurry, he had no choice but to recuperate first.
Although he had no idea where he was, it wasn’t easy for his enemies to catch up to him. Therefore, he was supposedly safe for the time being. He had to recover sooner so that he could come up with a way to leave.
After making up his mind, he released Amber from Spirit Beast Bag and let Yi Yi keep guard for him while he sat down with his legs crossed.
He had consumed some Healing Pills before setting off, so he was on the mend.
The injury caused by Xia Liang wasn’t severe as it was only a flesh wound. Given his robust physique and the medicinal efficacies of Healing Pills, it wasn’t hard for him to recover. The real damage that the attack had caused was that his Spiritual Power Shield had been shattered.
His internal injury was more severe, though. Tan Sheng’s spear struck his ribs like a whip and caused all five viscera and six bowels to be dislocated. His ribs were also broken. Following that, he was attacked by two Fire Dragons, which exacerbated his injury. With that said, he had been more severely wounded before this, so it wasn’t a big deal. Given enough time, he would recover sooner or later.
The most important task for him was to comprehend the knowledge of the Way of Wards in his mind to relieve the pressure on his soul. Otherwise, he couldn’t even think straight.
He let the Healing Pills work their wonder while activating the River of Spiritual Power to heal his injury. At the same time, he focused on comprehending the benefits he had acquired from the tower.
As time went by, he recuperated peacefully. On the other hand, outside Hundred Wards Tower, the cultivators from Thousand Demon Ridge were working hard to break the wards that had been around for a long time. Despite their displeasure, those from the Grand Sky Coalition didn’t dare to flare up.
The wards outside the tower, regardless of why they were left behind, were treasures from the ancestors.
When these Ward Cultivators had some free time, they would study these wards and verify what they had learned.
However, these wards, which had been around for countless years, were being destroyed. Those from Thousand Demon Ridge seemed determined to shatter everything. In that case, the area around the tower would no longer be dangerous.
Certainly, it wasn’t easy to destroy all the wards in a radius of 30 kilometres around the tower.
One day later, in a place that was ten kilometres away from the tower, Lu Ye, who was hiding in a ward, opened his eyes and let out a breath.
It was difficult to digest all the benefits he had obtained from the tower. After one day of hard work, the pressure on his soul had diminished. At the very least, his mind wasn’t affected as badly as before.
As such, he was no longer in a rush to digest everything else. He could do that at a later time. Although his physical injury hadn’t fully healed, he was generally fine.
Since he had spent an entire day here, it was time for him to leave. He got to his feet and said to Yi Yi, “Let’s go.”
“Alright,” Yi Yi replied and disappeared into Amber. She usually wouldn’t reveal herself to avoid coming across any strangers.
Most people knew Lu Ye had Amber, but rarely anyone was aware that he also had Yi Yi, who might play a crucial role at the most critical moments.
Amber leapt onto Lu Ye’s shoulder and crouched down before closing its eyes, looking languid.
What was worth mentioning was that Amber and Yi Yi’s powers were equivalent to the Sixth-Order Cloud River Realm.
Lu Ye ascended to the Sixth Order after he passed the test on the 15th floor of Hundred Wards Tower. On the other hand, Yi Yi and Amber achieved a breakthrough several floors later. In that case, there was only a small gap between the two of them and Lu Ye when it came to their powers.
Since Lu Ye consumed a lot of Spirit Pills every day, his cultivation improved rapidly. Even without using any Amulets, his power would still grow steadily. It was his advantage over the other cultivators.
On the other hand, the reason the two of them could catch up with Lu Ye when it came to their cultivation speed was mainly thanks to Amber.
The tiger had been looking languid recently as though it could never get enough sleep. It wasn’t that the tiger was lazy. Instead, it had been consuming Mutant Cores.
Lu Ye and Amber had to consume stuff to cultivate. The difference was that Lu Ye took Vital Spirit Pills while the tiger consumed Mutant Cores.
The power within Mutant Cores was much larger than that of Vital Spirit Pills. Therefore, Amber had been languorous because it had spent most of its energy digesting Mutant Cores.
Moreover, Lu Ye had been cultivating on his own. However, Yi Yi and Amber were different as they could cultivate simultaneously. The increase in one’s power would be beneficial to the other as well.
As such, Lu Ye wouldn’t be surprised if their powers surpassed his one day.
With the blessing of Insight, Lu Ye tried to look for the weak point in this ward. Soon, he left the ward while keeping it intact.
What do you think?
