I am grinding experience in another world

Chapter 424 Divine Skills

By the bonfire.

"Where's your Jade Dew?" Niu Sanmiao glared at the others with a fierce and evil look.

Shi Dechun and the others quickly took out the gourds hanging from their waists, which they had gathered and condensed by staying up all night and making use of any spare time during the day. Explore more stories with My Virtual Library Empire

Without a word, Niu Sanmiao took the yellow-skinned gourds one by one, using a transparent bead to absorb the Jade Dew and make Jade Dew Pearls,

As he was collecting them, he walked over to a short man.

The man's face was plastered with a smile, "Boss Niu, today I was busy searching for Yin Spirits, so I don't have enough Jade Dew. Can we possibly delay it a bit?"

Upon hearing this, the corners of Niu Sanmiao's mouth curled up, revealing a smile full of malice, "Delay? Give me a reason!"

As he spoke, his hand reached for the whip at his waist.

The short, skinny man immediately broke out in sweat on his forehead and couldn't help but look towards Chen Mu.

Why are you looking at me?

Chen Mu looked utterly baffled.

Before he could figure out the meaning behind the other person's gaze,

He saw the man grit his teeth, stomp his foot, and, after rubbing his face vigorously, said with full sincerity, "Boss Niu, your pair of horns look so nice!"

"Look, can we delay the Jade Dew just for tonight?"

Chen Mu: "…"

I'm scamming the devil here, and you actually believe it!

Smack!

Niu Sanmiao was so amused he laughed, lashing the short, skinny man on the arm with his whip, making him howl with pain.

"I freaking hate it when others talk about my horns!"

As he spoke, he kept whipping, causing the short, skinny man to hop around the bonfire.

After a while, Niu Sanmiao finally put away his whip and, with a cold face, moved on to another bonfire.

Once he was gone, the short, skinny man moved back beside the fire, looking at Chen Mu with a resentful gaze, "Last night you said the same thing, so why didn't it work today?"

After thinking for a while, Chen Mu said earnestly, "Maybe you just weren't sincere enough."

Shi Dechun's face twitched as he listened.

This little baldy is blatantly lying.

What astonished him even more was that someone actually believed it?!

Seeing the smiling little baldy beside him, he instinctively wanted to keep his distance. But when he took a couple of steps to the side, he turned his head to find the little baldy still beside him as if he had never moved at all.

Shi Dechun felt his eyebrows twitching violently.

Chen Mu smiled broadly, "Mr. Shi, it's quite cold, isn't it? It's warmer to huddle together."

Shi Dechun rolled his eyes and resignedly sat down by the fire with a sigh.

Wasn't it just last night when Niu Sanmiao scolded someone and I stealthily shifted my seat? It's human nature to seek benefits and avoid harm. Why is this being blamed on me, to harbor such a grudge?

"You didn't say anything bad about me in your heart, did you?" Chen Mu suddenly spoke.

Startled, Shi Dechun shook his head vigorously.

Crafty old fox!

Chen Mu shook his head with a chuckle.

Then he turned his head towards the bonfire not far away and jerked his chin in that direction: "What's with that group of strange and bizarre looking creatures?"

At that fire, set apart from the crowd, sat four or five people with unusual appearances.

Some of them had just one large eye, others had extra arms under their ribs, and one even had a pair of black feathered wings on their back.

Niu Sanmiao, who had just been ferocious and terrifying, was now crouching by the fire chatting jovially, his demeanor completely changed.

"What else could it be? They have unique talents and can cultivate Divine Skills," Shi Dechun whispered.

"They'll certainly be recruited as Yin Soldiers for Antiquity City, a bright future awaits them, so of course, Boss Niu wants to curry favor early on."

"Divine Skills?" Chen Mu showed interest.

Shi Dechun sighed, "The River of Oblivion is like a sieve; those who climb out always have something different about them."

"Unusual appearances mean special gifts."

"It's said these are the rewards from the River of Oblivion, but alas, we're not lucky enough to be favored."

"However, you might have a chance," Shi Dechun surmised, recalling Chen Mu's performance in confusing Niu Sanmiao the night before and tentatively prodded.

Chen Mu glanced at the crafty old man, "You're mistaken."

The previously shifty-eyed Shi Dechun suddenly had a blank expression, "Right, I made a mistake."

After coming to his senses, but as confused as if hungover, he scratched his head, "What was I just talking about?"

"Yin Soldiers?" Chen Mu kindly reminded.

"Yes, Yin Soldiers."

"Not just Antiquity City, but all the cities where Yin Spirits gather are continuously recruiting Yin Soldiers."

"See that bull-head? He's a Yin Soldier from Antiquity City. I guess this guy isn't very strong, that's why he's been tasked with finding Yin Spirits by the River of Oblivion."

"Is there war in the Nether Yin Underworld?" Chen Mu frowned.

Otherwise, why would they be recruiting Yin Soldiers on such a large scale?

"I don't know about that, and I've never heard cow-head mention it," Shi Dechun shook his head.

His information was mostly collected from idle chatter in the group, and most of it was what Niu Sanmiao had said.

Chen Mu nodded silently, deciding he needed to inquire thoroughly once he got to Antiquity City; he couldn't get involved in conflicts without understanding them.

After looking again at the oddly shaped figures near the distant fire, Chen Mu took out the yellow-skinned gourd and hugged it in front of him, closed his eyes, and began chanting the Dew Harvesting Spell to grind for experience.

It wasn't clear what sort of creature the Celestial Demon Cloud Mirage was, but it obviously had something to do with Yin Spirits, otherwise, he wouldn't have been able to practice the Dew Harvesting Spell.@@novelbin@@

Accompanied by a series of odd syllables, a force, the Exotic Force, converged all around him, much like webs opening up, attracting and condensing the tiny Jade Dew particles distributed in the air. In no time at all, a dewdrop the size of a kernel of corn successfully formed. When the chants stopped, it dropped with a thud, landing just right inside the yellow-skinned gourd.

He brought the gourd up to his nose and immediately, a tantalizing aroma of soup spread through his nostrils.

Chen Mu immediately rolled his eyes in response.

"They say the flavor of Jade Dew can vary immensely, and each person smells what they like best."

"But a drop of clear water exuding the scent of meat soup, isn't that a bit too ridiculous?"

"Moreover, I've nearly puked from drinking Replenishing Origin Soup every day, always thinking about changing its taste, how did it turn into my favorite smell?"

Chen Mu couldn't help but grin as he tilted his head back and poured the freshly collected dew into his mouth.

"And they even added green onions?!"

"Fuck!"

As soon as the Jade Dew entered his mouth, a warm current instantly spread in his stomach, but unfortunately, it dissipated quickly.

Chen Mu didn't mind and continued to condense, continuing to pour it into his mouth. After drinking nearly half a gourd of Jade Dew, his body became warm all over. The cold night wind blew on him, and the chill was gone.

"Did I really become a Yin Spirit?" Chen Mu shook his head and sighed.

If he could practice the Dew Harvesting Spell and treat Jade Dew as his meal, he could do everything a Yin Spirit could do with his True Form of Heavenly Demon.

"Well, looking on the bright side, at least I don't have to worry about being discovered with my living identity."

...

In the days that followed, Chen Mu and his group, led by a Bull Head, kept wandering near the River of Oblivion.

Chen Mu also strolled with them, but he was always skiving off behind Shi Dechun to grind for Dew Harvesting Spell experience.

Niu Sanmiao saw this several times but didn't intervene.

He knew that picking up Yin Spirits by the river was entirely a matter of luck.

Since Chen Mu delivered Jade Dew on time every day, he chose not to interfere anymore.

As a result, Chen Mu became even more carefree and leisurely, silently chanting spells and brushing experience every day.

When bored, he would look at the scenery of the River of Oblivion or chat with Shi Dechun, trying to understand and probe into various aspects of the Netherworld.

...

That day, as soon as everyone returned to the campfire site,

before long, there were exclamations coming from the campfire where four or five oddly shaped creatures gathered.

Everyone's attention was immediately drawn.

There they saw a creature with only one eye in the middle of the forehead, its face red and body shaking with excitement. Niu Sanmiao was also beside it, saying something joyfully and excitedly.

Then, facing everyone's gaze, the one-eyed creature took a deep breath, held it in as hard as it could, and then its single eye suddenly lit up with a scarlet glow.

The entire camp exploded into commotion, with people crowding around to see what the fuss was about. Shi Dechun jumped up and crowded forward with a look of envy.

"Awesome, this is clearly the awakening of Divine Skills!"

"He's definitely going to Antiquity City to become a Yin Soldier, and he might even get to be a minor official immediately."

"Such bright prospects, such a promising future..."

Curious, Chen Mu followed Shi Dechun to take a closer look. He had only heard about Yin Spirits awakening Divine Skills, but this was his first time seeing it up close.

Amidst everyone's praises, the one-eyed man became even more excited, took another deep breath, and held it in forcefully. Then, the eye emitting the scarlet light started flickering, flashing several times before suddenly emitting a ghastly green beam.

Pfft!

One moment red, the next green—had he awakened some kind of traffic light Divine Skill?!

Ha ha!

Taken aback, Chen Mu almost laughed out loud.

"Alas, it's turned green, it's green now," the crowd exclaimed around him.

The one-eyed man, proud and about to burst into laughter, raised his head in triumph.

Chen Mu covered his face, trying hard not to laugh and ending up with a stomachache from restraint.

...

A while later, people beside the campfire couldn't resist lively discussions.

And nearby, the one-eyed man still had people flattering him.

Shi Dechun said with an envious face, "I wish I could do this."

"Do you also want to turn into a traffic light?" Chen Mu asked with a strange look.

"Traffic light? What's that?" Shi Dechun was puzzled.

"Never mind, I'm praising him," Chen Mu said cheerfully.

Bullshit!

Though he didn't understand, looking at the other's expression, he knew he was being hoodwinked.

Shi Dechun said displeased, "I want to awaken Divine Skills."

"Putting prestige aside, at least I won't have to painstakingly condense Jade Dew."

"Perhaps Niu Sanmiao would even waive the toll for me, or even better, people might offer up their own condensed Jade Dew."

"Like that skinny monkey Yin Liu," Shi Dechun gestured with his chin toward the distance and sneered.

Chen Mu glanced over just in time to see a thin, short man handing over a gourd with eagerness, the very same Yin Liu who had been whipped by Niu Sanmiao.

"Wherever you are, there are always those who excel at opportunism," Shi Dechun sighed.

Chen Mu took a brief look and then turned his attention away. His experience with the Dew Harvesting Spell had already reached over three thousand. If he put in the effort tonight, perhaps he could reach four thousand. Then, harvesting Jade Dew would become even easier.

He had already inquired about it; the Jade Dew Pearl in Antiquity City was both currency and sustenance, so he held the Dew Harvesting Spell in high regard.

"I just worry he might see us as stepping stones for his promotion," Shi Dechun whispered into Chen Mu's ear with a tilt of his head.

"What do you mean?" Chen Mu frowned.

"Yin Liu thinks about picking up Yin Spirits to avoid tolls all day and hardly practices the Dew Harvesting Spell." Shi Dechun said spiritedly, "With just those few drops of Jade Dew he condenses on his own, one more of him doesn't make a difference, one less doesn't matter either. How could he possibly catch that person's special attention?"

"You mean..."

"I bet that guy is probably going to take advantage of the situation, collecting our Jade Dew on his behalf," Shi Dechun guessed.

Chen Mu looked towards the distance.

Sure enough, he saw Yin Liu speaking with the one-eyed man, looking smug. And the one-eyed man began to scrutinize the people around the campfire.

Chen Mu immediately furrowed his brows.

This was going to be troublesome.
