Chapter 532: Chapter 353: Honey, We’ve Run into Trouble
The other end of the phone gave no reply, just the sounds of choking and sobbing, and Zhou Peiwei’s heart clenched.
Despite knowing Luo Bingying for so long, Zhou Peiwei had never heard her cry, she quickly asked, “What’s wrong, Bingying? Did someone bully you?”
At Park Hyatt, Luo Bingying crouched in the corner of the restroom, silent. She wanted to hold back her tears, but the more she tried, the tears fell uncontrollably, like beans, to the floor.
The more silent Luo Bingying was, the more frantic Zhou Peiwei became, asking repeatedly without a response. She immediately turned to Shen Yuan, “We can’t, we have to go to the hotel to pick up Bingying.”
Shen Yuan had also sensed something was wrong and nodded, then he took out his phone to call Lao Gao, while asking, “Do you know which hotel she went to?”
“I know, Park Hyatt.”
Just as he said this, the call connected and Shen Yuan stood up, “Hello, Lao Gao, I need you to take me to Park Hyatt now.”
Lao Gao, concerned that Shen Yuan might need a last-minute ride, was always on standby in the hotel parking lot until midnight. Upon receiving the call, he immediately rushed to the hotel’s main entrance.
Sitting in the backseat of the Maybach, Zhou Peiwei finally understood the whole situation after chatting with Luo Bingying on WeChat, and explained:
“It was Bingying’s second aunt by marriage. She always had some issues with Bingying’s mom, so she was quite unpleasant. This time, she took it too far by insisting on setting Bingying up with someone, and Bingying didn’t accept it.”
“Probably, this second aunt felt she lost face, and because of the past grudges, wanted to vent it out. So she criticized Bingying in front of the relatives, and those damn relatives joined in berating Bingying.”
“You know how it is with those aunts and uncles at home, once they start gossiping, it’s definitely unpleasant.”
Shen Yuan nodded after hearing this, “I see. No wonder Luo Bingying’s mom didn’t come herself and sent Luo Bingying instead. They knew she would be targeted.”
Shen Yuan had dealt with Zhong Lan before, Luo Bingying’s mother. Those few yoga studios were acquired under her management.
“Yeah!” Zhou Peiwei said indignantly, “Last time her mom’s actions were already over the top, making her go on a date with Fei Bing for those yoga studios. I mean, what kind of mother is that?”
“And how could this second aunt be so mean? It’s a conflict between the elders, why take it out on the younger generation? She has no sense of being an elder at all!”
Zhou Peiwei was so angry her chest heaved violently, her best friend being bullied like this was even more infuriating than facing injustice herself.
“Do you know what her second uncle and second aunt by marriage do for work?” Shen Yuan asked.
“On the high-speed train, Bingying mentioned it once. Her second uncle seems to be the vice director of a private hospital, and her second aunt doesn’t work, she’s a full-time housewife.”
“Alright, I got it.”
Shen Yuan had an expressionless face but reminded Lao Gao who was driving, “Lao Gao, drive faster, the wedding will be over soon.”
“Understood, Chairman Shen.”
Lao Gao dared not delay and pressed the accelerator deeper.
Meanwhile, Luo Bingying, after sending the message to Zhou Peiwei, recomposed herself, wiped the tears from her eyes, and returned to the banquet.
Seeing that Luo Bingying was not in a good mood, the others stopped “criticizing” her. Li Fen even said with a smile, “Bingying, what the elders said earlier was a bit too much. Your second aunt has already chided them for you, don’t take it to heart, okay? They only meant well.”
Everyone was surprised. Wasn’t it you, Li Fen, who started it and we just echoed a few words? Now you’re throwing the blame on us?
And you have the nerve to claim it was for Bingying’s good? Everyone knows about your grudge with her mother!
Li Fen, for fuck’s sake!
But no one wanted to offend Li Fen, so they could only force a smile on the surface.
Luo Bingying just hummed in response, not saying much more. Her cousin at her side tried to smooth things over, “Relatives just say what they think, and they’re all straightforward. Bingying is so sensible, she definitely won’t take it to heart.”
The people at the table glanced at him, thinking to themselves, Jia Wei, just let out whatever nonsense you have. You’ve been speaking for Li Fen all night, and now you’re morally blackmailing Bingying.
Jia Wei, Luo Bingying’s cousin, full name Qian Jia Wei, seemed to be around 30. He adjusted his glasses with a smile and said,
“Second Aunt, has your second uncle been busy with work lately? I came to Shanghai mainly to attend Jiajia’s wedding and also to seek some professional advice from him.”
People finally understood. It turned out Jia Wei was here for work-related reasons.
Luo Bingying also glanced at Qian Jia Wei. No wonder this cousin took four days off.
Qian Jia Wei currently worked at a private hospital in Hangzhou. He was unhappy with the pay and his shifts, and had been wanting to transfer to a large hospital in Shanghai.
And his second uncle, Li Fen’s husband, was the vice director of a large private hospital in Shanghai.
With this connection, transferring would be a piece of cake.
Li Fen pursed her lips, troubled, “Your second uncle has been really busy lately. He was supposed to come with me today since it’s Jiajia’s wedding day, but he suddenly got a notification from the hospital that important leaders from the group were coming for inspection, so he had to hurry back for the meeting.”
What do you think?
