Chapter 36 - Madam, Are You Calling Me?
Chapter 36: Madam, Are You Calling Me?
The woman was beautiful and carried herself with grace.
However, Lu Jin couldn’t help but frown, a thought flashing through his mind.
Something’s off!
It wasn’t because of the woman’s appearance or figure.
It was because the servant beside him suddenly called out—
“Madam!”
Madam?
From the woman’s demeanor alone, he could already guess that she held a high status in this manor.
But he hadn’t expected her to be Aoi kai’s wife.
If this woman is Aoi Kai’s wife, then why is Tanaka Saya so quiet?
Earlier, when he had seen Aoi Kai, Tanaka Saya’s resentment had been so intense that it was nearly impossible to suppress.
But now, her emotions were eerily calm.
What’s going on?
Did she forgive him?
“It’s not her!”
As if sensing his thoughts, Tanaka Saya’s ethereal voice echoed in his ear.
“This woman… is not the one who killed me back then.”
Not her?
Lu Jin remained silent, though he wasn’t particularly surprised.
Aoi Kai was the kind of ambitious man who would stop at nothing to achieve his goals.
A mere wife wouldn’t mean much to him.
If he was ruthless enough to slaughter Tanaka Saya’s entire family for wealth and power, then he was just as capable of killing his own wife to keep a secret from being exposed.
For someone like him, as long as the benefits were great enough, there was nothing he wouldn’t do.
That being said, this meant that the only person Tanaka Saya needed revenge against was Aoi Kai himself.
After entering the room, Lu Jin locked the door behind him and released Tanaka Saya.
“Why didn’t you let me out just now?”
Dressed in a flowing black gown, Tanaka Saya gazed at him with an eerie look in her eyes.
“If I had let you out, you would’ve been killed by those people.”
Lu Jin, sitting cross-legged on the bed, shot her a calm glance.
Even he could sense the danger from those men earlier.
One or two, he might’ve been able to handle.
But four of them together? The moment he let this woman out, they’d both be dead.
He kept her sealed because she was still useful.
Anyone else wouldn’t have shown such mercy.
Tanaka Saya remained silent, her gaze locked onto Lu Jin, the resentment around her growing denser.
“Don’t look at me like that. Since I promised to help you get revenge, I will do it.”
Lu Jin turned the prayer beads in his hand, his voice steady and unwavering.
“You better keep your word.”
Tanaka Saya let out a cold snort, but she knew he was telling the truth.
If she had been released just now, forget about revenge—she would’ve been exorcised on the spot.
She wanted revenge, but she wasn’t a fool.
Being too impulsive wouldn’t just cost her revenge, but her very existence.
Lu Jin sealed her back into the prayer beads and turned his gaze toward the window.
From outside, he hadn’t been able to see clearly.
But now that he was inside the manor, he realized—this estate wasn’t protected by just one barrier.
The first layer, which he had detected earlier, was an outer barrier meant to prevent evil spirits and demons from entering.
Of course, if a spirit attached itself to a human, it could still bypass the barrier.
The second barrier, however, was a smaller one set within the estate itself.
It covered the entire residential area—not for protection, but as a kind of special binding force.
Through the window, Lu Jin gazed up at the sky.
The energy in this place was like interwoven chains, seemingly sealing something.
And whatever was being sealed… was right beneath this house.
Lu Jin stepped out of the room and began wandering the manor out of curiosity.
The servants and guards had been given prior instructions, so no one stopped him.
The moon shone brightly as he walked, eventually arriving at the edge of a pond in the garden.
Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed a tall figure standing by the water, gazing at the pond in silence.
Hiss—!
What kind of person would stand by a pond in the middle of the night instead of sleeping?
Could it be… suicide?
That thought flashed through Lu Jin’s mind, and he instinctively stepped forward.
As he got closer, he realized that the woman by the pond was none other than Madam Aoi—
Aoi Yuriko, was it?
Seeing her standing there in nothing but a thin nightgown, Lu Jin instinctively rubbed his nose.
Being alone together in the middle of the night like this…
If someone saw them, it would be hard to explain.
He wasn’t worried about himself—he was more concerned about the rumors that might spread about her.
With that thought, Lu Jin turned to leave, but then a soft voice rang out behind him.
“Would you mind staying and talking with me for a while?”
Hm?
Lu Jin paused, glancing around.
Aside from himself, there was no one else nearby.
“Madam… were you talking to me?” he asked uncertainly.
“What? Am I so terrifying that even a master like you doesn’t dare come near me?”
The woman turned, her bright eyes locking onto his, a trace of mockery and ridicule flickering within them.
Hearing the clear provocation in her voice, Lu Jin shook his head.
If he couldn’t recognize such an obvious attempt at a challenge, he’d be a fool.
Still, he was indeed curious about this woman.
Of course, it wasn’t because of her body—though her figure and appearance were undeniably captivating.
But now was hardly the time for such thoughts.
There were many things he wanted to know.
And this woman…
Might just be the right person to answer them.
What do you think?
