Chapter 43 - It’s a Waste Not to Do Something With That Mouth!
Chapter 43: It’s a Waste Not to Do Something With That Mouth!
“Benefactors, this road is closed.”
Lu Jin held a string of prayer beads and smiled gently.
With lowered eyes gazing at the ground, he resembled a bodhisattva, face full of benevolence.
The leading priest didn’t even spare him a glance and strode directly out of the villa to exorcise the evil spirit.
Buzz!
A wave of Buddha’s light spread out, forming a barrier that blocked all exits.
“I said, no passage ahead.”
The smile on Lu Jin’s face vanished, replaced by an eerily calm expression that sent chills down the spine.
With the wrathful glare of the Vajra, he slays rather than saves.
With the lowered eyes of the Bodhisattva, he sees not the world of beings.
“Assist me!”
The priest snorted coldly and gestured in the air, setting up a barrier.
The monk and onmyoji at his side moved to assist as well.
“Exorcise!”
The onmyoji in ceremonial robes pulled out a stack of talisman papers and casually tossed them forward.
The moment the talismans hit the ground, they turned into a horde of little spirits lunging at Lu Jin.
“Shikigami?”
Lu Jin glanced at them indifferently, his right hand dropping naturally to his side, palm inward, middle finger touching the ground.
Behind him, a golden Buddha’s light gathered, forming the vague silhouette of a Buddha.
The Buddha sat cross-legged, right hand naturally drooping, palm facing inward, placed between the right knee and calf, with the middle finger touching the earth.
In that instant, boundless Buddha light radiated outward, faint chanting of Sanskrit echoed in the air.
Wherever the Buddha light passed, the dense swarm of shikigami disintegrated in an instant.
This mudra* was one he comprehended while chanting the Medicine Buddha Sutra and visualizing the image of the Medicine Buddha.
[*Mudra is the term used for hand seals as in Naruto and Juijutsu Kaisen]
In Buddhism, the Demon-Subduing Mudra is also known as the Earth-Touching Mudra.
According to legend, during Shakyamuni’s meditation and path to enlightenment, Mara, the demon king, came repeatedly to disrupt his cultivation.
In response, Shakyamuni touched the earth with his right hand, calling upon the Earth to bear witness. The Earth Deity emerged to testify that Shakyamuni had attained the Way, causing the demon king to retreat in fear.
Thus, this mudra is called the Demon-Subduing Mudra.
This hand gesture symbolizes subduing demons, representing the Buddha’s triumph over inner afflictions and external demons, reaching the state of enlightenment.
In Esoteric Buddhism, it is also the mudra of Akshobhya Buddha in the Vajradhatu Mandala.
Although he had not yet reached the Buddha’s level, simply forming this gesture still allowed him to subdue demons.
“Namo Bhaiṣajyaguru Vaidūryaprabha Tathāgata*!”
[*Namó Yàoshī Liúlíguāng Rúlái!]
Lu Jin softly recited a Buddha’s name. Behind him, the Buddha’s light dispersed, and the Buddha’s silhouette faded away.
Though the Demon-Subduing Mudra carried immense power, it consumed a great deal of energy.
He could only maintain it for a brief moment.
Whoosh!
Just then, an arrow flew at him from behind.
Thud!
Behind the priest, the elderly monk who had been preparing to act broke out in cold sweat.
The arrow had whizzed past his face and embedded itself deeply in the hard ceramic floor.
Looking behind Lu Jin, Yuan Boling stood holding a longbow, eyes narrowed, gazing coldly in their direction.
All intent to act vanished from the monk’s heart.
Had that arrow been aimed at his head, he would be dead by now.
Lu Jin glanced at the woman, a little surprised she actually helped him.
“Don’t get the wrong idea. You just happen to look more pleasing to the eye than they do.”
Yuan Boling scoffed and turned her head away.
Lu Jin chuckled lightly, not taking it to heart.
This woman had pinned down the old monk—leaving the remaining priest and onmyoji no match for him.
“Ahhh!”
Suddenly, a wail echoed.
Inside the manor, Aoi Umi fell to the ground in terror, covered in cuts from blades.
Aoi Kumi, who had already turned into an evil spirit, was also killed—her mouth torn apart by ghostly scissors, tortured to death in horror.
Upon seeing Aoi Umi’s brutal death, the bodyguards in the manor scattered like they’d seen a ghost.
The priest and others frowned slightly, but now that their employer was dead, there was no point in staying.
The dead don’t pay.
Besides, those two in front of them weren’t easy to deal with.
They were paid to exorcise spirits, not to throw their lives away for a corpse.
They glanced at Lu Jin’s handsome face, as if trying to commit it to memory.
The priest gave a cold snort and turned to leave.
The monk and onmyoji also left the manor one after another.
Once everyone had gone, silence fell upon the estate.
Tanaka Saya, having avenged herself, closed her eyes. The yin aura around her grew denser, as though she was undergoing some form of transformation.
The ferocious resentment that had once clung to her was now completely gone.
“Now that your obsession has been resolved, follow me in practicing the Buddha’s teachings. That way, you may attain enlightenment sooner.”
Lu Jin clasped his palms together and spoke softly with a smile.
Hearing this, Tanaka Saya opened her eyes.
Her previously pitch-black eyes were now clear, with distinct whites and pupils.
She snorted and rolled her eyes at Lu Jin in disdain.
“Relax, I’m not the type to go back on my word.”
She knew exactly what that damned monk was thinking.
Still, since he had helped her take revenge, she would uphold her end of the deal.
She was just that kind of person—true to her word.
Tanaka Saya’s face flushed slightly as she slowly removed the mask covering her face.
The previously grotesque gash at the corner of her mouth, now free of obsession, had healed completely.
Her entire aura elevated to a new level.
Looking at the man who helped her take revenge, Tanaka Saya’s heart softened, and the coldness in her eyes gave way to gentleness.
Her misty eyes shimmered, filled with an indescribable seductive tenderness.
Lu Jin, looking at her soft, pink, almost dripping lips, was in a pretty good mood.
That terrifying mouth from before—though it hadn’t scared him—had made him reluctant to discuss Buddhist teachings with her.
He didn’t want to feel that discomfort—it would interfere with his practice.
But now, it was a different story—he could cultivate her talents in this regard properly.
A mouth that beautiful… it would be a waste not to put it to good use.
Though, whether she can handle it—is another matter.
What do you think?
