Chapter 45 - Time for a Cigarette!
Chapter 45: Time for a Cigarette!
Jin Weng especially favored riding the white tiger.
Ten miles of travel through a single thread of sky.
Two poetic lines flashed uncontrollably through Lu Jin’s mind.
Some things—before you experience them—seem like they’re not a big deal. Just so-so.
Only after truly encountering them do you begin to understand their wonder.
“Why did you want to kill Aoi Kai?”
As he indulged in the sublime scenery before him, both body and soul thoroughly at ease, Lu Jin couldn’t help but grow curious.
This woman, after all, was Aoi Kai’s wife.
Even though she married a good-for-nothing, she wasn’t mistreated in daily life.
What did she gain by helping him kill Aoi Kai?
“Why?”
Aoi Yuriko reached up to gather her loose hair, took off the ring on her hand and tossed it to the ground, then licked her lips.
“Because I married him to take revenge.”
Revenge?
Lu Jin sucked in a sharp breath.
This woman didn’t seem like someone who had been living like a widow after marrying Aoi Kai.
If it weren’t for his profound understanding of Buddhist teachings, he might have made a fool of himself.
“Heh heh…”
Aoi Yuriko let out a light cough.
Though she often studied Buddhism, it was all just theory—on real Buddhist doctrine, she knew next to nothing.
Now, faced with someone like Lu Jin, whose Buddhist mastery was far beyond ordinary, the imagined concepts she’d once fantasized about suddenly felt shallow and powerless.
Still, her strong-willed nature made her unwilling to admit defeat.
She released all restraint, opened her heart, and immersed her body and mind in Buddhism—feeling its warmth and devotion.
Seeing Aoi Yuriko kneeling in front of him with a face full of sincerity, bowing repeatedly and softly reciting Buddhist scriptures,
Even Lu Jin couldn’t help but be moved by her pious heart.
Having proven her sincerity, Aoi Yuriko leaned forward while kneeling, placing her hand against Lu Jin’s chest.
“Master, your Buddhist skills are truly profound.”
A heartfelt sigh.
Lu Jin instinctively began circulating his energy, sitting cross-legged in front of her.
His mind wandered in a marvelous state between carnal desire and spiritual enlightenment.
The Bodhisattva sits atop a lotus, delivering all sentient beings.
As the energy of their Dharma exchange reached its peak, Aoi Yuriko suddenly prostrated herself with a look of moved enlightenment.
Lu Jin grasped her waist and hips, his face free of desire—only a pure, sacred expression remained.
Aoi Yuriko, receiving the Dharma transmission, tried to take the initiative—reasoning, appealing with emotion—
Yet her rationality was shattered entirely by the boundless depth of Buddhism.
They moved about the room.
Eventually, she caught sight of her disheveled reflection in the mirror—
A look of awe at the profoundness of Buddhist teaching.
When she thought about how meager her own cultivation was, the shame in her heart was indescribable.
She could only feel her reason slipping away—
An invisible power invading her body, making it harder and harder to resist.
“Whew!”
“My spiritual power has grown by another thread.”
Lu Jin, awakened from the Joyful Meditation, smiled in satisfaction.
As expected, it’s these faith-filled women experiencing their first Buddhist practice that best suit the cultivation of Joyful Meditation Technique.
The results were even better than when he practiced with Sayaka Tanaka, who was an evil spirit.
She truly was an extraordinary Bùshī Púsà*—a Bodhisattva of Offering—
[*(Bùshī Púsà) – Offering Bodhisattva: In traditional Buddhism, “布施” (bùshī) means “to give/donate charitably,” and a “菩萨” (púsà) is a Bodhisattva. In this context, it’s a tongue-in-cheek term to describe a woman who “offers herself” to aid the monk’s cultivation—blending religious terminology with erotic innuendo.]
What a pity he couldn’t keep her by his side as a personal devotee.
Watching Aoi Yuriko’s dazed eyes and uncontrollable trembling,
Lu Jin shook his head and noticed a pack of cigarettes on a nearby cabinet.
He casually picked one up and lit it.
He wasn’t someone who liked smoking—he hated the harsh, pungent smell.
Still, he was curious what the appeal was.
He lit the cigarette and took a few puffs, but quickly frowned.
It felt like he had inhaled a lungful of thick smoke—it nearly choked him.
“Smoking this stuff… isn’t it just asking for punishment?”
Lu Jin shook his head and set the cigarette aside in the ashtray.
It took over ten minutes before the cigarette completely burned out,
And only then did Aoi Yuriko’s trembling body finally calm down.
Clearly, this session of Buddhist exchange had brought her great benefits.
Once Aoi Yuriko’s mind regained clarity, Lu Jin finally asked the question that had been lingering in his heart:
“Why did you want to kill Aoi Kai?”
Not only did she want him dead—she even married him for the sole purpose of revenge, enduring it all for years.
Was it really all just for vengeance?
Lu Jin couldn’t imagine what kind of hatred could drive a woman to do such a thing.
By all logic, Aoi Yuriko had countless chances to kill Aoi Kai over the years.
Why wait until now?
“Because he killed my parents.”
Aoi Yuriko got up from the bed, bent down to pick up a cigarette, and lit it.
She paid no mind to the perfect curves of her bare back exposed to Lu Jin’s eyes.
She walked to the window, arms crossed.
Holding the slim ladies’ cigarette between her fingers, her gaze held a nostalgic light.
“My parents used to be business partners with Aoi Kai. Seven years ago, a disastrous incident caused their company to go bankrupt.
Unable to handle the pressure, they both jumped to their deaths.”
“That’s why I’ve always hated him— Why could the man who caused all this live on so shamelessly, without a trace of guilt?”
“So I swore back then— I would make him lose everything, just like I did.”
Her flawless figure trembled slightly in the cold wind—
Yet the smile on her face was radiant.
What do you think?
