Chapter 47 - Antique Shop!
Chapter 47: Antique Shop!
On the way back to Yakushi Temple after leaving the estate.
“Master~ you really are popular, huh.”
“Wherever you go, there are always women who like you.”
Hearing that mocking voice coming from the prayer beads, Lu Jin couldn’t help but feel a headache coming on.
He had sealed Tanaka Saya within the beads, but had forgotten that even sealed inside, she could still sense what was happening around her.
So when he was deeply exploring the Dharma with Aoi Yuriko earlier, Tanaka Saya, sealed inside the beads, had clearly seen and heard everything.
Tanaka Saya, now with her resentment fully resolved, no longer held that heavy grudge.
Although her personality had been influenced by the years of trauma, compared to the gloomy girl she used to be, she was now just like a normal person.
But she also inherited a woman’s common flaws— lively, mischievous, and intensely possessive.
And, to his misfortune, she was a little too romantically inclined.
What gave Lu Jin the biggest headache right now was that he hadn’t realized before— this woman was extremely jealous.
A tool he used for cultivating the Joyful Meditation, was now getting jealous over him.
He really didn’t know how to respond to that.
The only thing he could do was pretend he didn’t hear it—completely ignore her.
After muttering for a long time and getting no reaction from Lu Jin, Tanaka Saya finally stopped, sulking in silence.
Once she quieted down, Lu Jin instantly felt the world fall back into peace.
“I really have to find a solution to this…”
Even though it was quiet for now, carrying around a yokai all the time clearly wasn’t ideal.
He had no privacy at all.
Most things weren’t a big deal, but the existence of the system was something he absolutely could not let anyone know.
No one. Not even the people he trusted most.
That secret belonged to him and him alone.
Suddenly, a sliver of morning light broke through the darkness.
The dim sky slowly brightened.
“It’s dawn already?”
Lu Jin looked at the sky in surprise.
He hadn’t expected the night to pass so quickly.
He had left the room at midnight.
From entering the hidden chamber, to Tanaka Saya taking revenge— the whole process had seemed long, but in reality, only two to three hours had passed.
As for the rest of the time, most of it had been wasted on Aoi Yuriko.
After all, a pristine, untouched field like that— not taking the time to plow it properly would be a waste of natural resources.
And in the process… he had just happened to lose track of time.
As he walked into the city, the once sparse pedestrians gradually grew into a bustling crowd.
The world suddenly seemed filled with life and color.
“This is what life really is.”
Lu Jin felt a wave of emotion.
Everyone lives for their own reasons.
But… what was his reason?
Looking at the busy salarymen rushing back and forth, Lu Jin couldn’t help but think—
Maybe this kind of seemingly pitiful life is actually the greatest happiness to these people.
In that sense, human joy and sorrow are not universal.
He couldn’t impose his worldview on others.
But at the very least, he needed to know what he truly wanted.
“Become a Buddha?”
That was just a far-off, empty dream— not a real goal.
Lu Jin shook his head and pushed that thought aside.
Not knowing was okay.
He still had a long life ahead of him, plenty of time to search for his purpose.
Just as he was about to walk away, he noticed an antique shop that had just opened.
He suddenly remembered a few treasures he had picked up at a flea market not long ago.
If he could find such good things on a roadside stall, then who knows what an antique shop might have?
If he could pick up something valuable, it’d be a huge win.
With that in mind, Lu Jin walked into the antique store.
The store wasn’t big.
Just two windows and a door— the only sources of light, making the interior seem rather dim.
Inside, rows of shelves were stacked high.
Hundreds of antiques crowded together, making the already small space feel even more cramped.
There really wasn’t even space to stand.
“Is there something you’re looking for, Master?”
The owner, who had been sweeping the floor, lit up as soon as he saw the monk enter.
After all, monks were considered pretty high-paying customers, and were known to be generous with their spending.
Such a fat sheep walking right into the shop— he wouldn’t miss this opportunity.
Lu Jin glanced around the shop and felt a bit disappointed.
Though most of the antiques were real, their aura was very faint.
There were only a few that barely caught his eye.
He casually picked one with the brightest glow and asked for the price.
Then gave up on the idea of buying it altogether.
A slightly chipped porcelain bowl— and the owner wanted tens of millions of yen for it.
He might as well just rob people at that point.
Lu Jin didn’t care about antiques— he wasn’t a collector.
And this price alone was enough to make him back off.
More importantly, the bowl simply wasn’t worth that much in his eyes.
He could afford it, if he really wanted to— but he preferred spiritually rich objects.
The more spiritual energy an item held, the more powerful it would become once enhanced.
“Of course… not every day is a lucky day.”
Lu Jin shook his head, turning to leave.
Just then, out of the corner of his eye, he spotted something on the counter— an old artbook that looked like it had quite a bit of age to it.
What do you think?
