I Became My Healer Elf Character

Chapter 95 95: Fleet of the Black Rose

All of the adventurers crowded around the lord while others began receiving their briefings. In reality though, it was only 3 different teams. Hikari's ears twitched from all of the noise.

The lord sat in his wheelchair and pulled out a pipe. He ignited the sticky, green substance with the tip of his finger. He huffed the wooden object from the corner of his mouth. "Don't worry about this old thing. Helps with the pain."

Seeing that no one said anything, Hikari shrugged. "I'm surprised you can feel anything with those legs. Moreover, I'm surprised that no one had healed them until now. Doesn't your kingdom have healers?"

The man raised his eyebrow from the elf's apparent audacity. However, he quickly smiled. "Good question. I've been told a few times that my condition is untreatable, so I do what I can with the rest of my body." He paused and looked at the whole of the group of adventurers. "Shorter crowd this time. No matter, I'm going to give your instructions now."

Far out into the sea, inside the Misty Isles, a skeletal ship floats along the waves. The frame is made of both wood and pieces of bone. From the few holes on the bow, one can see a rib cage, yet the ship continues to get stranger if you look towards the captain's quarters.

The head of a large black octopus rests at that side of the ship, very much undead. Beneath the rocking ship and rolling waves, the octopus's tendrils propel the ship forward on the water. Even the crew continues to be bizarre if one looks at the deck.

Ghosts, ghouls, skeletons, and wraiths prowl back and forth. The skeletons being the lowest members of the chain tap their brooms against the soggy wooden floor. They sing a shanty as the ship rocks to and fro.

Yo ho, away we go, sailing the Misty Isles below,

And inside, this ship we row, from the dawn of life let go,

The kraken draws, and the ship sinks down,

Not a sign of life, they found.

The end draws near, when the ship they'd steer,

The kraken draws, and their fate is clear,

And forever more, their fate did close,

It's the last light, o' the Black Rose!

Over and over again, they repeated the same shanty as the ship sailed further and further away from its island of origin.

Sailing the ship was a skeleton with blue flames surrounding him. Even though wore an old black sailor's uniform. None of it caught fire. He was at home in the Misty Isles. The strange green fog surrounding him, only served to increase his feeling of reverie for his goddess. The shantying and cackling of his crew, served to bring about his good mood, including the way the octopus head behind him bobbed up and down to the shanty.

His bony, sinewy hands continued sailing forward. If their crew was going to bring about chaos in this year's festival, they needed more allies. They needed to spread the mist even further out to sea. Luckily for them, they had the ship on their side. The tentacles beneath would easily render the life of any sea creature, converting them to the Black Rose instantly.

The ship finally reached the edge of the mist, and it pulled out into a stark contrasting bright scenery. The sun shimmered over the water, creating a strange dividing line between living and dead. Yet, there were still no living creatures for miles. Even if this part of the water had yet to be tainted, the living were smart enough to steer clear of the razor's edge.

Any that would come close enough to this part of the ocean was too stupid for them to convert into crew mates in the first place.

Yet, even as the skeletal captain had those thoughts, the lookout shouted at the captain. "In the water! There's a Mosasaur!"

The captain clacked his teeth together. His bones rattled as he pointed forwards. "Go! We must convert it right away, for our lady!"

All of the other skeletons echoed his sentiment at the same time. "For our lady!"

The ship's tendrils lurched the whole thing forward, propelling it towards the Mosa even faster. From a distance, they saw the creature surface on the water like a whale.

It opened its large mouth to display hundreds of razor sharp teeth. Incredibly, the ginormous creature spoke. "I will not allow you to traipse into the land of the living."

The creature glowed with a white hue. Light magic encased its form like a bubble.

All of the crew on the undead ship readied their selves. Each of them shouted at the top of their lungs...If they had lungs. Those that didn't rattled their bones loudly.

The captain yelled for his crew. "Defensive posture! Fast! We need a shield!"

To answer the call was none other than the ship itself. The octopus head produced a black miasma that encircled every inch of the wooden exterior. Soon, there was a bubble of shadow to mirror the light from the other side. A shield of pitch black darkness was produced by the ship.

The mosasaur finally released all of the magic it was charging into a beam of bright white light. From its mouth a laser shot forward, rippling against the water, and creating massive tidal waves that rushed away from the epicenter.

White hot light rushed forward, colliding with the black shield and creating surface tension along the miasma. All of the dark magic rippled. It was like seismic waves created along the magic surface.

Yet, even with the ferocity of the attack, only a small hole was made. A tiny droplet of light was allowed to enter, incinerating a few of the undead crew on the spot.

The large beast on the other side scoffed at their defensive posture. "Hmph, you survived that? No matter, let's see how many you can withstand."

"Charge!" The undead captain commanded the ship. He'd not wait for his entire crew to be sunk by their first obstacle.

The ship's tentacles slapped together beneath the sea before spreading apart. Black chains of lightning arched between them. Void magic encased the entire ship before it vanished entirely.

The Mosasaur looked around in confusion. He looked across the surface of the water, but there was nothing. He looked beneath the water's surface, yet nothing still. But that's when he felt it.

An unsettling amount of magic power condensed above him. A ripple in space, and the ship appeared in the sky.

At the very helm of the ship was the captain, hanging from the bow by only his feet, and pointing a large staff down towards the sea where the Mosa floated.

The Mosasaur sensed something huge coming, yet there was no time to move his flippers—no time to cast a spell. And regardless, the deathly voice rang out.

When it came, the voice seemed to come from everywhere and nowhere at the same time. It had changed in tune and pitch, becoming like that of a beautiful woman. However, the sound was grating to the ears. It echoed an endless torment yet only spoke 2 words.

"[Death's Vortex]."

All of the water within a several mile radius turned black. At the epicenter a storm of black magic arched like lightning, killing even the bacteria in the air. An enormous black sphere fell to the ocean like a droplet of water.

The Mosasaur seemed to watch the sphere in slow motion, knowing that his time was over. "How commendable. To be attacked by the Black Rose herself."

Beast was swallowed by darkness. The droplet encompassed everything that he ever was, sucking away his life and energy, until he could no longer think. Until he was no longer considered a living creature in this world.

The ocean below him swirled and raged. The tendrils of the ship grabbed onto his lifeless corpse that was on the verge of being swallowed by the torrent.

A skeleton of a Mosasaur was hoisted into the air by tentacles. The lord of the ship pointed the staff at the body.

"May you find happiness in your new unlife. And may the goddess fill you with a new purpose."

The skeleton was enshrouded in the green mist, only for its eyes to spark back to life in green flames. A black and green aura covered its visage. And it spoke for the first time like a newborn.

"What is my purpose?"

"You take order's from our goddess. The fleet's commander will have you."

As if what the captain said was some sort of audio cue, more ships arrived in the skies. An entire fleet assembled above the ocean, floating while encased in darkness. And among them, one could see that this ship was just one of many.

The largest ship of the entire fleet stood as a gigantic monolith, floating in the sky. It was in the shape of an enormous squid, and each tendril was just as large as the Mosa that had just been slain.

At the very tip of this behemoth a single woman sat in a throne, covered in black robes. "It's time to make my move." She smiled and played with the black jewel of the staff in her hand. "So what will it be, sister?"
