Chapter 98 98: A Shattered Heart
Amelia paced around the hotel room. Of course, she felt the ripples of her sister's magic from so far away. Now, she waited inside of the tall building with the kids for the inevitable. In actuality, she'd had a small hope that Hikari would end up dealing with her problem first, even if she knew.
The goddess felt Nona's hand grip hers tightly. The little girl was a boon in these situations. Amelia nodded, realizing that she didn't have to face her sister alone. She'd have the support of Hikari and her subordinates. Moreover, she had these little kids to cheer her on.
As if on cue, an angel arrived at their door and entered the room. The angelic maid smiled at the pink-haired goddess. "It seems you're already ready to go. Then you'll know what I'll ask?"
Amelia nodded. "Hikari wants me to join you all on the ship, right?"
"Well, yes, but the kids aren't going to come along. I'll take them with me into Hikari's domain."
"Good, they'll be safe there."
The little girl and boy looked up at the goddess with worry, but they didn't protest this arrangement made without them.
Amelia grinned. "Such well-behaved children. Will you two be okay following this elder sister?"
"If there's a bunch of sisters like her over there, then it will be no problem," Kai said.
Nona elbowed her older brother in the arm. "Why are boys always like this? Is that all you're thinking about?"
Akari chuckled at their exchange. "There are definitely other sisters like me over there. Many are even prettier. There's a whole new world to explore similar to this one but different at the same time."
"You think we'll be able to learn magic there?" Nona asked.
"Yes, magic should be easy to learn, and you'll be able to learn from the best practitioners in all of the world. I look forward to seeing what kind of spells you'll cast." The angel took the hands of the children before looking towards the pink-haired goddess. "You can take it from here, I assume? We've stalled long enough. If you need help getting to the ship…"
Amelia shook her head. "I am a goddess, you know. Finding Hikari among the common rabble is simple, and even simpler than that is finding her dragon. She's not exactly subtle. If I were to place a bet, my sister also knows exactly where they are. A collision is inevitable."
"Alright," the angel said, beginning to channel her transportation magic with the children in hand. "I hope that you'll be successful in your endeavors, and don't forget to call on My Lady should you need some extra help."
Amelia released a long sigh as they vanished. "It's not like I don't have the support of my domain as well. I bet that girl is watching from up there worried."
The goddess exited the building and looked towards the sky, wondering if she should summon her own maid. However, the thought quickly vanished. She still needed that girl to look after the divine tree in her domain. Instead, Amelia focused on the task at hand.
A pair of gorgeous pink wings sprouted from behind her, and she took to the skies. She focused on the sensations of magic power permeating in the air. The sea was laden with so much mana that she was certain there would be magic storms no matter what happened.
In the back of her mind, the goddess wondered what her sister even looked like after all this time. Was she completely corrupted? Was she still able to be saved and turned away from the darkness?
Of course, Amelia was aware that darkness was her domain, but the sister had never held such darkness in her heart. The two had always been birds of a feather, until the death of her sister's lover.
Tears dropped from Amelia's eyes as the flood of memories assailed her. From the very beginning they'd spawned as sisters. They did everything together, and they always swore to help each other. The war of gods a thousand years ago tore them apart and ripped a hole into Amelia's heart.
Every single time that the girl thought of her sister, a pain would attack her chest. She'd refused so many things all because of this long lasting burden. Most of her followers had never known of this struggle. Most of it had been completely erased from history books.
Amelia never wanted to erase her sister, but her cowardice towards the elder gods council and the mortals below had made the fates inevitable.
"Speaking of the council," the goddess said, attempting to banish all of the sad thoughts from her mind. "I wonder what they think about all of this? The fact that they'd never even said anything about Hikari…And they're not doing anything about my sister and I…"
Amelia knew that Hikari's standing was very high. So high in fact that Amelia had never even heard of her until recently. She defied all reason among the council members.
Generally, all of them were more aloof than most. They had an even further disconnect between the living. However, Hikari was completely different than them. She was aloof, but over time, Amelia realized it was more than that.
The pink-haired goddess giggled. "It's more like that elf is simply clumsy with her feelings."
Every subtle facial expression could betray what she was truly feeling inside. At the same time, she cared deeply for all of those who traveled with her. She even showed them love. Each girl was as beloved as the next one.
"I wonder if I would ever feel such a thing?" Amelia asked as she flew above the water. The rippling ocean below her cast her reflection. Pink hair ruffled in the wind and pink eyes stared back at her. The feathery, pink wings flapped and created small waves.
Amelia knew that it wasn't arrogant to call herself beautiful. Most of the gods and goddesses were astounding in appearance. It was one of the things that differentiated them from mortals. Such perfect appearances would not be fitting for mortals.
Even though she'd been trying to distract herself, it was inevitable that Amelia's last thoughts before she reached the ship were of her sister.

Edith no longer held a complete hatred in her heart for her sister. No, the girl hated everything in the world more. She hated the living who could lie to her, so she surrounded herself with undead. She created a place for herself among the dead at the top of the food chain.
The goddess was not dumb. In the end, she realized how this endeavor would end. She clutched a pendant on her chest that reminded her of her lover. "Everything will finally come to an end, and I'll be able to rest forever."
A lich king beside her tilted his head. "What are you talking about, My Lady?"
"Don't worry your bony head about it. When all is said and done, I will have made my mark on this world. In the grand scheme of things, this will be like a story book. A heroine goddess goes to try and defeat her evil sister. Don't you like the sound of that?"
The skeleton cackled. "When you're victorious, we can create a whole library of books for you, My Lady. All of the necromancers in the world will sing your praises, and you'll be heralded across the continent."
Edith frowned at her ignorant follower, ultimately choosing not to chastise him. "At the very least, we will create quite a showing. That other pesky goddess is sure to get in our way as well."
"And she'll be dealt with the same as your sister, My Lady. That's why we've amassed this whole army."
The black-haired goddess chuckled. "And you think it will be so easy?"
"No, My Lady. We've already seen that she's a formidable adversary, but look at this fleet."
"Indeed, behold this fleet. A whole army of undead, stretching across the entire ocean. If we had this during those ancient times, maybe things could have turned out differently."
Edith knew that all of these efforts were likely to be pointless in the end. There was no such thing as a fairy tale where the bad guys win, and she was not naive enough to consider herself the good guy. She knew that she was on the evil side of this war. She'd known for a long time, yet it didn't make her want to stop. She already started the path, and she'd see it through.
Her sister be damned, the only thing she cared about was long gone. She flipped open the locket once more. No image of her beloved was inside, and she'd been erased in the truest sense of the word. The world had forgotten about her, and that was the part Edith hated the most.
With her final hours upon her, the Black Rose shed tears. The dark miasma coated tears were all that remained of her. It was the final sign that her heart and soul were truly broken.
What do you think?
