Chapter 183: 183: Your Brother is Getting Engaged
Chapter 183: Chapter 183: Your Brother is Getting Engaged
Liang Suisui said, “If she’s not an illegitimate daughter, how could she possibly look so much like you?”
Yuan Xi laughed lightly, “There are plenty of people who look alike, aren’t there a bunch of celebrities in the entertainment industry who share the same face?”
While they were chatting and laughing, the waitress they were talking about was serving glasses of wine and, while turning around, accidentally bumped into a rich heiress.
The remains of the red wine in the glass spilled all over the heiress.
Seeing her dress stained with red wine, the heiress raised her hand and gave the waitress a slap, “What the hell? Do you know how much this dress costs? Can you afford to pay for it?”
“I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry,” Li Ping repeatedly bowed and apologized, “I’m really sorry.”
“What good is a sorry? Just saying sorry won’t settle this. This dress cost seven hundred thousand; pay up.”
“I…,” Li Ping replied with her hand on her face, “I’m sorry, miss, I don’t have that much money, I can’t afford it.”
“Can’t afford it? Then kneel down and lick my shoes clean!”
Yuan Xi frowned and stepped forward, “Shiyi Hotel will pay for this. Bring the receipt for the dress and Shiyi Hotel will reimburse you the original price.”
The heiress saw Yuan Xi and said, “And who are you to talk so big? You say Shiyi will pay and they will pay? You two do look quite alike. But looking at what you’re wearing…”
The heiress glanced at Yuan Xi’s cocktail dress, worth at most a hundred thousand, but when she noticed the blue diamond on Yuan Xi’s ring finger, she hastily said, “Mrs. Huo, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it, no need for compensation.”
The troublemaking heiress ran off in a panic, fearing she would end up like Qian Yiren.
Yuan Xi said, “Hey…”
Yuan Xi wanted to say that Shiyi could compensate, but the once arrogant heiress had already run off, impressively fast even in high heels.
Yuan Xi turned to the waitress who looked very much like her, “What’s your name?”
Li Ping looked up at Yuan Xi, “Mrs. Huo, my name is Li Ping.”
Yuan Xi glanced at her name badge to confirm the spelling, “It’s quite a coincidence, this is the first time I’ve met someone who looks so much like me. Don’t worry, any work mishaps that happen during your work period, Shiyi will take care of it.”
“Thank you, Mrs. Huo,” Li Ping bowed gratefully, “Thank you for helping me out today.”
Yuan Xi laughed lightly, “Don’t mention it. You’re a colleague of Shiyi, and it’s really rare to meet someone who looks like yourself in a sea of people. Are you from A City?”
“Yes, I’m from A City.”
Liang Suisui interjected, “A City people working as waitresses?”
As an international financial center and metropolis, it was rare to see locals working as waitresses in A City.
Li Ping said, “I’m majoring in Hotel Management at A University. I’m a junior this year. Sometimes on weekends, students from our major come to intern at Shiyi. I almost thought I’d have to sell my family’s house to pay for that dress… then my parents would really have nowhere to live.”
Yuan Xi laughed lightly, “Next time something like this happens, you can ask your supervisor for help. You don’t have to bear the responsibility alone.”
“I understand, thank you,” Li Ping responded.
When Huo Shiyuan came looking for Yuan Xi, he saw Li Ping beside her and was momentarily stunned, “Is she your sister?”
Yuan Xi shook her head, “No, we just met.”
Li Ping saw Huo Shiyuan and quickly bowed deeply, “President Huo.”
Yuan Xi saw in Li Ping the same shadow of herself from six years ago—new to the working world, similarly uneasy, bowing deeply to anyone she met.
Yuan Xi said, “She is a junior from A University interning at Shiyi Hotel. She’s a pretty good student.”
Huo Shiyuan understood what Yuan Xi meant; she wanted him to help arrange a job at Shiyi for the girl. Typically, students from the Hotel Management major at A University start interning in their senior year, and Shiyi had a partnership with A University.
Huo Shiyuan instructed Assistant Ye, who was following him, “Help her arrange a suitable internship position at Shiyi.”
Assistant Ye nodded and replied, “Yes, President Huo.”
Liang Suisui glanced at Assistant Ye, “President Huo, you’ve gotten yourself a new secretary. This new little secretary is quite handsome, looks a bit like my ex-husband. Seems like there are a lot of people who look alike in the world; it’s not so rare after all.”
Huo Shiyuan, confused, looked at Yuan Xi, “Where did she get an ex-husband from?”
Yuan Xi explained, “Her ex-husband is the movie star Fang Ming. Because she stopped being a fan after watching the movie ‘I Still Love You,’ Fang Ming became her ‘ex-husband.’ Indeed, Assistant Ye does look a bit like Fang Ming, quite handsome.”
Huo Shiyuan glanced at Assistant Ye, “Ye Huan, from now on, you don’t have to come to Yunsen Court.”
Yuan Xi laughed lightly, looking at Huo Shiyuan, “You’re quite jealous today.”
Because Gu Hanchen had already gotten jealous twice, all she had said was that he was quite handsome, and she hadn’t expected Huo Shiyuan to be jealous again.
Huo Shiyuan took Yuan Xi’s hand and said, “It’s time to head back.”
Indeed, Yuan Xi was also missing her baby, “I’ve arranged for our car to take Xiao Hao back. Should we take the bodyguard’s car or ride with Suisui?”
Liang Suisui said, “Take my car, I just bought it, you can help me absorb some of the formaldehyde inside.”
Yuan Xi: “…”
Huo Shiyuan frowned slightly, “Let’s take the bodyguard’s car back, Ye Huan, you go help Miss Liang absorb the new car’s formaldehyde.”
Ye Huan: “…”
Yuan Xi had merely complimented him for being handsome. Huo Shiyuan was indeed a little too jealous.
—
Back at Yunsen Court.
Yuan Xi hastily took a shower and removed her makeup before she entered the baby room and scooped up the two children.
Perhaps because they had not seen Yuan Xi for almost the entire day, both children were sniffling and sobbing.
After soothing them for a long while, An An finally fell asleep, but Lele just couldn’t be away from Yuan Xi at all, bursting into tears whenever he couldn’t see her.
Yuan Xi simply took Lele back to the master bedroom, as there was a weekly meeting early the next Monday.
Seeing the little infant appear in the master bedroom, Huo Shiyuan frowned slightly, “Are you sure you can take care of Lele at night without the help of a nanny or childcare worker?”
Yuan Xi chuckled lightly, “If she cries, I’ll just hold her and go find the nanny, she just can’t leave me today.”
Seeing Yuan Xi smiling, Huo Shiyuan knew she was happy that Lele was clingy and did not refuse to let Lele sleep in the master bedroom.
Yuan Xi looked at Little Lele lying in the middle of the bed, reached out to gently touch his forehead, and smiled as Lele beamed at her, “My Lele is indeed a little sun who loves to smile.”
Huo Shiyuan said to Yuan Xi, “It’s getting late, let’s sleep.”
Yuan Xi nodded off to sleep but soon heard the child’s soft cries. Opening her eyes, she glanced at the clock on the bedside table—it was past two in the morning.
She observed Huo Shiyuan, groggy next to her, bottle-feeding Little Lele, and took out her phone to snap a picture of this scene.
The sound of the camera caught Huo Shiyuan’s attention, who then looked at Yuan Xi, “It’s time for Lele’s night feeding.”
Yuan Xi, upon hearing this from Huo Shiyuan, drifted off to sleep again in a daze.
When she woke up early in the morning, Yuan Xi received a message from Yang Ying asking whether she would return to Jiang City for the Qingming Festival holiday.
The Qingming Festival was still more than half a month away.
Yuan Xi replied to the message, “I’m going to pay respects to my foster parents, I will return to Jiang City.”
Rather than conflict with the Chu Family’s plans during the Qingming holiday, Yuan Xi felt it was better to be clear in advance.
It took a while for Yang Ying to respond, the message showing as being typed for a long time, until finally, a message came through, “Can your father and I accompany you? We also want to thank your foster parents.”
Yuan Xi let out a sigh of relief.
Then Yang Ying sent another message, “Your brother is getting engaged on the Sunday of the Qingming Festival. We still hope you can let bygones be bygones and attend the ceremony.”
Yuan Xi furrowed her brows slightly; if she wasn’t mistaken, Chu Lin was pursuing Liang Suisui, who was in City A, so how was he getting engaged?
And choosing a day right after Qingming…
Yuan Xi checked the Almanac app on her phone. It indeed was an auspicious day for marriage…
It was a sudden engagement she had never heard of, and Yuan Xi was curious who would find Chu Lin appealing. She did not ask Yang Ying but turned to Gu Hanchen instead.
Gu Hanchen quickly sent a message, “Secretary Cheng.”
Yuan Xi was somewhat surprised, “Who?”
Gu Hanchen sent a voice message in a nonchalant tone, “Your brother’s secretary, who has been with him for quite some time, surely you’ve seen her before?
Yuan Xi, why is it that everyone else’s CEO and secretary pairs are becoming a thing, and we’re not?”
Huo Shiyuan, overhearing Gu Hanchen’s teasing words, frowned slightly, “I don’t think there’s any need for Gu Hanchen to stay at Mi Chen any longer.”
Yuan Xi chuckled and pressed send on a voice reply to Gu Hanchen, “Because no other CEO would insist on their secretary downloading an Almanac app on their phone.”
It was only when she was checking for the auspicious day that Yuan Xi remembered the app on her phone was actually developed by Gu Hanchen, who had made it mandatory for her to download.
Apart from Gu Hanchen, there likely wasn’t a second CEO who would demand the front desk staff to take good care of two money trees every day.
What do you think?
