Chapter 74: Chapter 74 I Have No Reason to Slander Chu Yan
Friday was particularly restless at the office as everyone was eyeing the clock for the end of the workday, eager to start the Dragon Boat Festival holiday.
Just before leaving work, Yuan Xi received a call from Yang Ying, asking her to come home for the Dragon Boat Festival.
Yuan Xi responded with a light chuckle, “I’m sorry, Mom, John and I have already planned to take Little Huohuo to the beach for the Dragon Boat Festival, so I’m afraid we won’t be able to spend it at home.”
Yang Ying on the other end of the line said, “This will be our first Dragon Boat Festival together as a family since you came back, Xinxin. Traveling can be done anytime, but this is the first Dragon Boat Festival we’d have together since we found you.”
Yuan Xi gripped her phone tighter. “Will Chu Yan be there during the Dragon Boat Festival?”
Yuan Xi was somewhat persuaded; she missed the Dragon Boat Festivals she used to celebrate with her parents when they were alive — lively and festive.
...
Early on, they would hang calamus on the door and make local snacks unique to the Dragon Boat Festival, then go to Ruohu to watch the dragon boat races.
Indeed, compared to escaping to the beach, Yuan Xi would much prefer to spend the Dragon Boat Festival with her family.
After all, her last five Dragon Boat Festivals had been spent with various financial reports.
Yang Ying said, “Xinxin, you know that Bo Fan cheated. Yanyan has locked herself at home these past few days, not eating or drinking. Yanyan is going through the hardest time, and during the Dragon Boat Festival, we can’t let Yanyan…”
Maybe Yang Ying felt guilty or perhaps conflicted because her voice faded into a mumble that Yuan Xi couldn’t hear.
Yuan Xi scoffed at herself; after twenty-five years, she really shouldn’t have expected anything.
Yuan Xi coldly added, “It is sad that Chu Yan was cheated on, but do you know what she did the day Bo Fan’s infidelity was exposed?”
“That day, Chu Yan manipulated Fan Yan’s marketing accounts to attack me, spoke up for my grandparents, and instructed those accounts to lead an online assault against me, including paid trolls to harass me online.”
“She even gave my biological parents ten million to tarnish her reputation, and I have evidence that she bought the trending search for the words ‘Chu Yan, beautiful and kind-hearted.’”
“Mom, so I repeat, if Chu Yan is at the Chu Family’s house, I definitely won’t go back!” @@novelbin@@
Yang Ying’s voice came through the speaker, “Xinxin, if what you say is true, I absolutely won’t tolerate Chu Yan, but she probably wouldn’t do that…”
Maintaining her politeness, Yuan Xi did not hang up directly. “Whether it is true or not, you can find out by investigating. I have no need to slander Chu Yan, nor can I do such a thing. I’m going to hang up now.”
After hanging up, Yuan Xi picked up her office coffee and took a big sip. The cold, bitter coffee slid down her throat, blocking the rising sour retching sensation.
The Dragon Boat Festival had arrived, and the traffic was horrendous on Friday.
Fortunately, after passing through the downtown area, the highway was clear.
In the car, Yuan Xi turned to the driver, Huo Shiyan, and asked, “Which beach are we going to? To see the sea from Jiang City, we would have to go to a faraway island, wouldn’t we? Is there enough time to go to Hai City Island in three days?”
Huo Shiyan replied, “We’re going to Star Island.”
“Star Island?” Yuan Xi inquired, “Where is that? I don’t think I’ve heard of it.”
Xiao Shihuo raised his hand and said, “Star Island is an island Daddy gave to Mommy.”
Huo Shiyan added, “Star Island is a private island in the Philippines. There’s a small airport there, and my mom goes there for vacations in the summer.”
Xiao Shihuo chimed in, “Sis, Star Island is really fun!”
Yuan Xi gave a faint smile; she had thought they were going to a nearby island or maybe to Hai City for fun, but she hadn’t expected it to be a private island.
Yuan Xi went back to the mansion to pack her luggage. The plane took off at nine o’clock in the evening.
Huo Shiyan told Yuan Xi, “The flight will take about seven hours, so try to get some sleep first.”
Yuan Xi looked at Huo Shiyuan’s airplane, unlike Gu Hanchen’s which had only sofa seats, his had a bed.
Little Huohuo climbed onto the bed and hugged Yuan Xi, “Today, I finally get to sleep with sister! I like the fragrant sister.”
Huo Shiyuan furrowed his brows, “That’s not possible, there should be distinctions between men and women, you are a boy and can’t sleep with your sister.”
Yuan Xi smiled lightly, “He’s only four years old.”
Little Huohuo nodded, “Yes, I’m only four years old, I can sleep with sister.”
Yuan Xi gently hugged Little Huohuo to sleep, and Little Huohuo soon fell asleep.
Seeing that Little Huohuo was asleep, Huo Shiyuan then carried him to a sofa outside, letting him sleep there.
“Won’t he fall off?” Yuan Xi asked with concern.
Huo Shiyuan replied, “No worries, he can’t sleep with you anyway.”
“Only four years old, why can’t he sleep together?”
Huo Shiyuan hugged Yuan Xi tighter, “I’m worried about his sleeping behavior, he might kick our child.”
Yuan Xi gently stroked her abdomen and also gradually fell asleep in Huo Shiyuan’s arms.
When awakened by the gentle voice of a flight attendant, Yuan Xi got up, and it was just past four in the morning according to her phone.
Looking out of the airplane window, the sky was gradually brightening, but the sun had not yet fully risen.
After taking a photo out the window, Yuan Xi went to soothe Little Huohuo who was getting cranky after being woken by the flight attendant.
Huo Shiyuan walked up to Little Huohuo and said, “No throwing tantrums.”
Little Huohuo cried even louder, “Brother is mean, brother is fierce.”
Yuan Xi softly comforted Little Huohuo, “Hang in there, we’re almost there, and you can continue to sleep after we arrive.”
After the plane landed at the island airport, a private car was already prepared.
As Little Huohuo fell asleep again in the private car, Huo Shiyuan had the nanny follow Little Huohuo, while he took Yuan Xi on another convertible car, “Just in time to catch the sunrise, why don’t we watch it before heading back for more sleep?”
Yuan Xi said, “No need for more sleep, let’s go watch the sunrise.”
Huo Shiyuan drove to a beach, the sound of waves crashing in the morning and occasionally, seabirds flying by. In the distance, the rising sun became more apparent, growing higher and higher above the sea level.
Yuan Xi took out her phone and snapped a photo of the sunrise.
While taking the photo, she checked her messages, “It seems there’s no signal.”
Huo Shiyuan said, “This area only has satellite signals, and internet is only near the villa by the sea. Having no internet might actually be a good chance to truly rest.”
Yuan Xi, gazing at the distant sea, put her phone down and thoroughly enjoyed the beauty of the sunrise and the waves.
…
Yang Ying hadn’t slept well through the night and received the evidence her assistant had found early in the morning.
Yang Ying swiped through the photos on her phone, one by one in disbelief that Chu Yan had actually plotted the cyberbullying against Yuan Family by Yuan Xi.
Yang Ying grabbed the medicine from the bedside table, swallowed it, and called her assistant, “Are you saying that the account used last time to fake Yuan Xi’s blue diamond was also Chu Yan’s?”
What do you think?
