Chapter 149: 150 The Idea of Building a Water Treatment Plant
Chapter 149: Chapter 150 The Idea of Building a Water Treatment Plant
Randy returned with an excited heart, and after Lide made another round of the breeding farm, he suddenly noticed a significant problem while the workers were busy.
The farm’s water all had to be fetched by the workers themselves from a creek three hundred blades away, and the entire process was extremely inefficient.
Just as several workers returned, carrying buckets brimming with water, ready to continue cleaning the pigsties,
under Lide’s watchful eye, two buckets of water were not enough to clean even half a pen, but the workers did not seem to mind and continued to carry empty buckets to fetch more water.
This scene made Lide furrow his brows. Accustomed to modern production efficiency, he simply could not accept such low working efficiency.
It was such a waste of time. How much time was spent just on fetching water every day??@@novelbin@@
“Harry, is this how they always work?”
Hmm?
Hearing Lide’s question, Harry looked at the workers cleaning the pigsties and nodded, somewhat puzzled.
“Of course, does the Clan Leader have any good solutions?”
Having dealt with him for a long time, Harry knew too well Lide’s abilities. His unfettered thinking was something Harry could never match.
Take this breeding farm, for instance; the blueprints that impressed even the most experienced craftsmen in the construction department were something he could never have come up with.
Lide nodded, his somewhat obsessive-compulsive nature unable to tolerate such inefficiency.
“Have you ever heard of running water?”
“What is running water? Can you eat it?”
Watching Harry’s puzzled expression, Lide smiled slightly.
Snap~
With a snap of his fingers, a Mage’s Hand appeared.
Under everyone’s gaze, the translucent Mage’s Hand picked up a bucket full of water. Whoosh~
The bucket leaked.
Water poured out from a small hole at the bottom of the bucket.
“See?”
A group of people stared blankly at Lide. What is this all about? Isn’t it just leaking water? What’s so special about that?
Lide smiled broadly.
“Although magic exists in Glory, some physical properties are still shared.
For reasons you don’t know, water will always flow downward.
The principle of running water that I’m talking about comes from this.”
Pointing to the mountains not far from the breeding farm, his tone was certain.
“If we build a reservoir halfway up the mountain where the spring water flows, and then connect it with pipes, what do you think will happen?”
Harry had an epiphany and nodded.
“The spring water from above would flow down through the pipes, so we wouldn’t have to waste time fetching water,” he said excitedly, turning to the Bloodline nearby: “Get someone ready to prepare bamboo pipes.”
Lide waved his hand to stop Harry.
“Water is heavy, and the more water there is and the higher it is from the ground, the greater the pressure will be. Ordinary bamboo pipes won’t withstand that pressure.
Even if bamboo pipes could endure, they are not durable and would be damaged within a few months.
We might as well do it right the first time and have the blacksmiths from the smithy come and make a set of iron pipes.”
Running water was undoubtedly a good thing, and its cost of manufacturing was not high. It only needed to be pumped to a high place, and then it could be used by exploiting the water’s own pressure.
This invention required little technical content and was very easy to build, and it would significantly enhance both production and living conditions.
The breeding farm was close to a water source, and the water came from mountain springs. The right time, place, and people were all in place, needing only the construction of a reservoir halfway up the mountain to complete the running water system.
Building a reservoir halfway up a rocky mountain would definitely be a huge project on Earth.
But this was a world of magic, where modern challenges could be simply minor issues.
As natural Spellcasters, the Bloodline would never suggest creating a reservoir with magic.
Lide was also an intense magic enthusiast, naturally excited about the task.
“Call the people from the construction department over; let’s discuss how to build this reservoir.”
The people from the construction department were among the crowd, overseeing the breeding farm’s design which was being brought to life today, so naturally, they had to be there.
Though the idea of running water came as a sudden inspiration, no one dared to question it when Lide suggested it.
In Dawn City, he was the sole big boss. His will was the direction in which the whole city advanced.
The group immediately sat down to discuss, and because it was not a difficult project, the construction department came up with the result in less than a Sunshine Hour.
“Clan Leader, the construction department says it’s best to make the reservoir a bit larger, as the breeding farm will continue to expand in the future, and it will save us the trouble of running out of water.
Also, the reservoir needs to consider the bearing capacity of the mountain below it; it cannot be built on a mountain with cracks.”
The idea of blasting a reservoir into the side of a mountain with magic was stirring Lide’s blood. This kind of task was precisely his taste.
“I’ll take care of this one myself; I can’t make this trip for nothing.”
“Go fetch Gold Mining, and see how long it will take the smithy to forge the water pipes.”
The arrival of running water was undoubtedly a giant leap forward for human civilization.
People saved countless hours every day, and life became immeasurably more convenient because of running water.
The breeding farm was Lide’s first experimental step. Once everything here stabilized, he planned to extend running water to the entire city.
And if possible in the future, he even intended to apply running water to farming, just like modern farms, where turning on a tap could automatically water the crops.
This was meaningless for agriculture, evolving from the Stone Age to the electric era—a monumental leap.
Should his plan be realized, Dawn City would have completely outpaced Glory by an era.
Simply perfect.
Of course, this was the most ideal state. Accomplishing it was far from easy—just the issue of a single water pipe was enough to give him a headache.
At present, Dawn City produced just enough iron ore to barely meet daily demands, far from affluent.
The waterworks project would require an unknown quantity of iron ore; by his estimation, connecting Dawn City to running water wouldn’t be possible within at least half a year.
So for the time being, it was only sensible to deal with the water supply for the breeding farms first—other ideas would have to wait until they had an abundance of iron ore.
It was only now that Lide truly understood the difficulties of being the head of a household.
Even though Dawn City seemed prosperous, its weaknesses were abundantly clear. It was unrealistic to undertake major construction projects in a short amount of time; they had to proceed step by step.
“One day, nothing shall blind my sight, and no earth shall bury my heart…”
After grumbling to himself, Lide summoned all the Bloodline members at the breeding farms—he was ready to get to the main point.
A formidable excavation for the reservoir.
It had to be said that the Magic World was unreasonable. Had this been on Earth, constructing a reservoir halfway up a mountain would’ve required an immense amount of brainpower.
But here, they had the simplest, most direct, and violent tools that disregarded science and reason—magic.
By this time, the sun had dipped below the mountains, and the light faded as dusk set in, returning the Bloodline to their formidable state.
“Let’s move.”
At his command, over a hundred Bloodline members spread their bat wings—a spectacular sight, especially with so many.
From the perspective of the people on the ground, the already dim light was instantly swallowed by darkness.
Flap, flap, flap—
The bat wings, resembling those of demons, beat in the air with a whooshing noise.
One by one, the Bloodline ascended, their enormous wings blocking the light.
This scene was straight from a doomsday legend.
Lide led from the front, his wings a size larger and even more impressively powerful, gently beating as he flew towards the mountain peak.
The other Bloodline followed immediately.
It was fortunate that the people on the ground had grown accustomed to the Bloodline members spreading their wings during work; otherwise, this demon-like spectacle would have scared them to death.
Reaching two hundred blades into the air, they stopped fifty blades from the cliffside at the pre-determined spot.
Water flowed from a crevice higher up the mountain, its babbling sound crisp and clear.
Lide gestured for everyone to halt.
“Listen to my command; groups of thirty.”
Shh—Immediately, the nearest thirty members of the Bloodline formed a group, and four clusters of them appeared in the sky.
One group was a few members short of thirty, but Lide didn’t care and continued, “Each group will cast spells for one minute, using only the Small Fireball Skill, with a 0.5-second interval between each cast. But you must ensure there are no interruptions.
After the first group has finished casting, the second group will follow immediately, and so on.”
“We don’t need to use the Fireball Technique or other attack spells. We’re here to construct a reservoir, not to cause major magical shocks that might lead to cracks.”
“Now, on my command, the first group begins casting.”
Lide was the first to cast a spell after he finished speaking.
The improved Small Fireball appeared in his hand.
Bang, bang, bang—
In less than 0.2 seconds, the first Small Fireball appeared, and in just a few seconds, a line of Small Fireballs connected from the cliffside to his hand.
The air temperature soared instantaneously.
The thirty Bloodline behind him also began casting spells. The improved Small Fireball had become a mandatory spell for all the Bloodline, so no one made a mistake.
Bang, bang, bang—
The dense barrage of Fireball spells performed by dozens of Bloodline was far more spectacular than when Lide cast alone.
Within a hundred blades’ radius, the heat was intense. The darkening sky was suppressed by the burst of light from the Fireballs—it seemed a new sun had risen.
At the breeding farms five hundred blades away, the sight of this sent the crowd into a frenzy.
It was magnificent.
Dozens of fireballs per second pummeled the cliff face, which under the searing flames quickly reddened and melted.
Drips of molten rock bubbled.
A pit spread rapidly from the outside to the inside of the cliff.
The unending stream of fireballs acted like the most terrifying heater, relentlessly roasting the rock.
The solid rock melted like foam meeting flame at a visible rate.
The magma molten from the high temperature flowed vigorously towards the ground due to gravity, as if the cliff were a demon’s gaping maw, ceaselessly spewing deadly magical flames.
“By the goddess above, Kachar City Lord is too great—this is a miracle!!”
“Praise the Holy Light Bloodline; only the powerful Holy Light Bloodline could accomplish such an exaggerated feat!”
“Why do I suddenly feel like crying…”
What do you think?
