Chapter 671 91
But, a part of him wish to prevent needless slaughter. Unfortunately, the Master only accept the surrender after the Nation is broken, their people praying to be allowed to live. Only then would the Master allow the Nation to surrender before picking up the pieces.
Aridus continued gazing at Zell City, "In the end, they did not notice our spies." The man pulled out a word the size of his thumb. Despite looking like a regular worm, it has two small crystal as eyes, allowing it to see and transmit the vision to a connected Magic tool.
It allow the two commanders to hear and see what occur in the meeting of Betrum Nation higher-ups. Of course, they don't plant just one spy worm, but many, the numbers in triple digits as the worms infested the walls of the mansions, plus few in the eastern walls in case of a field meeting.
"We will have no use for them at the moment. Have them gathered in a safe place before coming out once we conquer the City." Aridus ordered before looking at his partner-in-crime.
Maroon nodded and the two wore their Illusory Amulets, entering the battlefield as a regular Hybrid Bugs, or so it seem to those not in the know.
In fact, they're the one who control the Hybrid Bugs swarm, giving order to the closest General-rank Hybrids. Though, the reason why they joined in the swarm was not to command it, they can accomplish that easier in the fort, instead, it's to hunt and capture powerful and beautiful women.
The Hybrids had been given the order to not harm, severely at least, women, but they lacked the sight and thought of other monsters. Unable to differentiate between male and female is something the Hybrids often does.
So, in the swarms, the members of Band of Steel and Astor Royal Guard mingled, using Illusory Amulets to hide in the swarm, allowing them to command the Hybrids more effectively while hunting down women among the combatants, or order the Hybrids to not harm one particular person.

As the swarm marched to the City, the soldiers of Zell City had retreated to the walls, most of them going for the eastern side to rain projectiles on the swarm.
Meanwhile, the militia covered the other walls, with half of them in the City, the intention of using it as an effective terrain to slaughter the Bugs should the walls were breached.
As for the Main Army and other combatants outside the wall, the plan was for them to wait, choosing the right time to strike the swarm flank, or so is the plan.
Should a part of the swarm chased after the Main Army, the counter would depend on the size of the swarm portion. In case the number is too high, they will perform hit and run, doing their best to grind the swarm.
Should the number be on the manageable side, the soldiers will envelope the approaching swarm and destroy them as quickly as possible. Or so the plan will go. Unfortunately, smart enemies tend to think of ways to ruin any good plan.

"The Hybrids are striking the walls." Alros observed as the Hybrids begin the process of dismantling the defenses near the walls. The palisade were dug up and thrown into the makeshift moats, filling it up and provided a bridging for the Hybrids.
Even with rains of projectiles of various weight and sharpness, the Hybrids continued their work, their efficiency assisted by their shield. Made out of large Bugs of C-rank and above, it possess strength equal to any regular metal, capable of blocking attack of weaker kind while proving to be an obstruction arrows and spears.
Even when some of the Hybrids met their ends, the loss was small, something the other side hate.

"The shields is too much. We can hope to pierce them." One of the captains exclaimed.
"Throw rocks then! We need to thin their numbers as much as we can before they break the walls!" Zell City General yelled, his eyes on the approaching Giant Beetles. The creature's thick carapace and immense size and weight could be the undoing of the walls.
Even if the wall is thick and capable of enduring catapult shot, onslaught of Giant Beetles charging at the wall might prove too much.
Not to mention,
"Raarghh!" a Human Bug charged at the gate. It was barricaded with multiple locks and drawbar. The gate itself is made out of thick iron, so no monsters can scratch the wood until it broke.
However, none of the City planner expected for the monsters to use themselves as battering ram, hitting the walls and slowly dislodging the locks.
"Ram it up! Put more bars into the gate! We cannot let them pass!" a defender yelled, as more militia put the iron bar against the gate, strengthening it, even for a short time.
Undeterred, the humanoid monster charged at the gate, creating a human shape bump as it slammed into the gate.
Seeing their chance, a group of soldiers poured hot oil and rocks on the Human Bug, hoping to kill, or at least inconvenience it.
However, as it turns out, the carapace of the Human Bug proved too hard, as the oil just simmered down its hard skin while boulders bounced of it, though the latter managed to get the Human Bug to stop momentarily, before resuming its reckless charge.
"That's probably an A-rank Human Bug." One of the soldiers responsible for the rock said. They accept no other explanation on how it managed to survive a direct hit on the head.
Seeing the Human Bug slowly breaking the gate, the nearest A-rank decided to stop it. Jumping near the gate, the A-rank adventurer slammed its hammer to the Human Bug, sending it flying yet failing to kill it.
With a manic grin, the adventurer slammed the hammer on the ground, challenging the monster to face it head on.
What do you think?
