Chapter 187 Taming Failed!
Rachel's heart pounded. 'Could this Aleman be the same Aleman from Enders Light?'
She wondered if it was the one she had been gaming with for months now... The very same person who had become a close friend in-game.
She clenched her fists. If it was the same Aleman, then this was her chance. Her only chance.
Summoning every ounce of courage, she straightened her blazer and walked toward Grayson's office. She knocked twice, then pushed the door open without waiting for a response.
Grayson looked up from his desk with an arched brow. The other executives in the room eyed her with disinterest until she stepped forward and spoke.
"I have a proposal."
Grayson leaned back in his chair. "Valentine, it's late. What could you possibly have to say that's worth my time?"
Rachel took a deep breath. "I heard you talking about AM Coven. You want Aleman to accept the deal and open up for shares. I can make that happen."
A smirk curled Grayson's lips. The other executives chuckled dismissively.
"And what makes you think you can succeed where our professionals have failed?" one of them sneered.
Rachel met Grayson's gaze with unwavering determination. "That's not your concern. What matters is the deal gets done."
Grayson studied her for a moment, then leaned forward before tapping his fingers together. "And what do you want in return, Valentine?" Read exclusive chapters at My Virtual Library Empire
She exhaled. "My debt. Erase it. Let me go."
The office fell silent. The other executives exchanged glances, and Grayson's smirk deepened into something more predatory.
"That's a bold request," he murmured. "And what happens if you fail?"
Rachel forced herself to keep standing tall, even as every instinct screamed at her to run.
Grayson pushed himself up from his chair and rounded the desk, stopping directly in front of her. He reached out and brushed a finger down the lapel of her blazer. "If you fail… then you pay me another way."
Rachel's stomach turned, but she didn't flinch. She had always known what kind of man Grayson was. She had always known what kind of power he wielded. But she also knew one thing for certain—
She could not fail.
She lifted her chin and met his gaze. "I won't fail."
Grayson chuckled. "Then we have a deal."
Rachel turned sharply on her heels and walked out, keeping her breath steady until she was clear of the office. Once she was back in the empty hallway, she pressed her palm against the wall, trying to calm the tremor in her hands.
'Aleman… whoever you are, wherever you are… you're my way out of this hell.'
...
...
August swung his blade through the thick underbrush of the Verdant Wilds, slicing away thick vines as he and his team ventured deeper into the wilderness.
The jungle air was dense and thick with humidity, and the distant growls and howls of various beasts echoed through the trees. It had been two days since the World Announcement had declared a player had tamed a permanent mount, and now, everyone was out hunting.
-------
[WORLD ANNOUNCEMENT: Player GaleStorm has become the first to tame a mount! Infernal Sabercat has been subdued and permanently bound!]
-------
Ezran wiped the sweat off his brow while glancing at August. "Remind me again why we're doing this? We've fought through packs of Feral Clawbeasts, a whole den of Razorfang Wolves, and a ridiculously aggressive Forest Stag, yet not a single taming attempt has worked."
"Because, my dear Ezran, a mount might be the edge we need for the tournament," August responded while scanning the surroundings. "Besides, imagine how cool we'll look riding into battle."
"Yeah, real cool," Boris grumbled while cracking his knuckles. "If we don't get trampled by another pissed-off bear first."
[System Notification: A wild Steelhide Boar (Lv. 41) has appeared nearby!]
The rustling of leaves was quickly followed by a deep snort. A Steelhide Boar which was a massive beast with dark grey armor-like skin and crimson tusks, stomped into view. It was at least seven feet tall at the shoulder, its breath steaming in the cool night air.
Lilo would have loved this, August thought briefly before shaking his head and getting focused.
"Alright, guys," August pulled out his daggers. "We need a plan."
"Yeah, here's the plan," Gregarious said, grinning as he pointed his sword at the beast. "I hit it, it gets mad, and we tame it. Simple."
Ezran groaned. "You're an idiot."
Before anyone could object, Gregarious charged with his sword raised. The Steelhide Boar roared and kicked up dirt as it charged at him with terrifying speed.
[System Notification: Gregarious has lost 3,800 HP!]
Greg slammed into a tree with a loud thud after a powerful collision. "Ow," he muttered while sliding down the bark.
"Well, that worked perfectly," Ezran deadpanned.
"Shut up," Greg muttered.
Boris didn't wait.
He leaped forward with his Berserker Axe glowing as he brought it down on the boar's thick hide.
[System Notification: Boris has dealt 2,200 damage! The Steelhide Boar's HP is now at 88%.]
The beast bellowed in rage but was still standing strong.
August analyzed the situation and dodged as the boar rampaged around, swiping its tusks at Ezran and Gregarious.
Attacking it alone wouldn't work. They had to weaken it further, and then find a way to subdue it. He was about to suggest a strategy when a World Chat Notification appeared.
[Player 'Riven' has successfully tamed a Lightning Strider! The first player to acquire a C-Rank mount! Congratulations!]
The group collectively froze.
"A Lightning Strider?" Ezran's eyes widened. "Those things can move at insane speeds! He's definitely gonna be a monster in the tournament!"
"We need a mount," Boris muttered before dodging another tusk swipe.
August sighed. "Yeah, but we can't just punch the boar into submission."
Gregarious who was still brushing himself off from his failed attack, raised a finger. "Actually… maybe we can."
The group turned to him.
"I read somewhere that some beasts will only recognize you as their master if you dominate them in combat. If we get its health low enough, we can trigger the Submission Prompt."
Boris cracked his knuckles. "Now that I can do."
Ezran sighed. "Of course, the only way to tame a beast is to beat the crap out of it first."
August smiled. "Alright, let's do this."
They surrounded the boar and worked together, whittling down its health bit by bit while dodging its fierce charges.
[System Notification: Steelhide Boar HP at 18%! Initiating Submission Phase...]
A glowing Tame Prompt appeared before August.
[Would you like to attempt taming the Steelhide Boar?]
[Success Rate: 22%] [Failure will result in enraging the beast further.]
[Confirm?]
"Well, that's a shit percentage," Gregarious stated.
August exhaled. "Here goes nothing."
The boar's red eyes locked onto his the moment he pressed confirm. It growled as its form trembled between submission and defiance.
The system rolled.
[Taming Failed! The Steelhide Boar resists and enters Frenzy Mode!]
The boar roared in fury.
"Great," Boris muttered. "Now it's mad."
The boar's muscles bulged, and it charged straight at August with terrifying speed.
"Time to move," August activated Phantom Blitz.
[ Phantom Blitz Has Been Activated ]
In an instant, he disappeared and reappeared several feet away, causing the boar to slam into a tree.
[Steelhide Boar HP -500 from impact.]
Ezran shot a firebolt. "Let's just kill it."
August sighed. "Agreed."
And so, they fought until the boar was finally defeated.
"That's the third failed taming attempt today," Gregarious muttered.@@novelbin@@
Boris wiped the sweat off his forehead. "This is going to take a while."
Ezran let out a sigh. "We need a new approach."
August looked around at the wilderness and muttered, "Or a new target."
He glanced at the mountains in the distance, where larger, more intelligent beasts were rumored to dwell.
...
...
The morning sun was already peeking through the blinds of August's bedroom when he finally stepped out of his gaming pod.
His muscles were still tense from the previous night's grinding session in Enders Light.
Despite all their efforts, he and his party still hadn't acquired a mount. He exhaled deeply while rubbing the sleep from his eyes.
"Another time," he muttered.
After a quick shower and breakfast, he grabbed his phone and checked for updates. No urgent messages. That meant AM Coven was running smoothly—at least for now.
With a glance at the time, he stood, stretched his arms, and grabbed his keys. But first, there was a little detour to make.
August drove through the quieter parts of the city, cruising through streets until he reached a secluded, abandoned parking structure... his hidden storage for his other car.
Stepping out of his current vehicle, he approached a covered section of the lot and pulled away the protective tarp.
The matte-black Lamborghini sat beneath it like a predator waiting to pounce. The polished surface was so smooth that he could clearly see the reflection of everything in its surroundings, including the dim light.
August smirked as he pulled open his inventory and retrieved his Aleman gear—his tailored business blue suit and signature helmet.
Slipping into it, the disguise felt second nature now. He was no longer August Clementine.
What do you think?
