Chapter 38 - 38 038 Thank You_1

Chapter 38: 038 Thank You_1 Chapter 38: 038 Thank You_1 The next day, Snowflake Middle School, three thirty in the afternoon.

With the ring of the school bell, the originally quiet campus burst into activity in an instant. In no time, standing at the school gate, parents could see a swarm of students rushing out like a tidal wave, among them, some found their own parents to go home with.

There were others who split into groups of two or three, heading in different directions. These students were going to their extracurricular activities. Some clubs were held within the school, while some had their activities outside of the school grounds.

But rest assured, these clubs’ instructors all had a connection with the school. They could either be teachers from the school or formal coaches invited by the school using its connections and money.

“Bro, why are you here?!”

At the school gate, Phil, who had just walked out from the black iron gate, seemed a bit surprised. Matthew’s business had always kept him busy.

He only had time to pick Phil up once at the start of the term.

“Phil.”

Matthew, standing to the side, waved and smiled. He wore a pure white shirt on his upper body, complemented by a brown striped tweed jacket. He wore a greyish-white top hat and his usual pair of gold-rimmed glasses. He also had on recently fashionable dark red loafers. He was the picture of elegance and refinement.

The afternoon daylight shined on Matthew, casting a pale golden glow over his face, with his silver watch chain reflecting the light on his chest.

Compared to the other parents surrounding him, Matthew outshone them all. He had an air of success and social superiority.

“Phil, is that your brother? He’s so handsome!”

From behind, a group of five or six girls from his class who had also just ended school were chattering away. Their eyes often darted curiously towards Matthew from the distance; it was quite self-evident what they were discussing.

Phil ignored the group of girl fans behind him.

“Why is your brother picking you up?”

Milo, standing next to him, swung his school bag and asked.

“I don’t know, maybe there’s something going on.”

Phil shrugged and quickly walked over to his brother.

“Bro, why did you come pick me up today?”

“Hey, listen to that tone. As your older brother, can’t I occasionally show some concern for you? Come, let’s go for a nice meal…”

Matthew lowered his hat to shield his eyes from the sun, his tone sounding a bit helpless.

“I have a martial arts lesson with Coach Li Wei at four.” Phil scratched his head, finding the two commitments conflicting.

“No problem. I’ll first take you to the Grey Stamp Martial Arts Hall for your lesson. Then at six, I’ll pick you up and Coach Li Wei, and we’ll go for dinner together. I’ve always felt that our dad’s handling of things the day before yesterday was improper, simply giving money feels insincere. At the very least, we should have a nice meal as a token of our thanks. What do you think?”

“Sounds good, once we get to Grey Stamp Martial Arts Hall, I’ll invite Coach Li Wei.” Phil readily agreed to Matthew’s proposal, volunteering himself for the task.

By this time, Milo had also walked over from behind.

“Milo, come, catch a ride with my brother…” Phil said.

Driving along the gray streets of Baichuan City, a Haizennaya sedan made its way slowly. The ornamental trees and black streetlights on both sides whizzed by, the seats in the carriage were incredibly comfortable.

From the backseat, Milo was taking in the discreet yet opulent gold trim inside the car, the spacious interior, and the luxurious, plush blanket; he was forming a new understanding of Phil’s family’s wealth.

Five minutes later, Red Tower Street.

“Bro, I’m going.” Phil stood at the side of the road and waved goodbye.

“Go ahead.”

Matthew, at the window of the driver’s seat, gestured vaguely towards the sign of Gray Stamp Martial Arts Hall.

“Got it.”

Phil nodded and turned to walk towards the martial arts hall with Milo.

At six in the afternoon, the evening sky displayed a multitude of colors. From red to yellow, the clouds spread out in a rippling gradient. Under the high-altitude air currents, it slowly moved, occasionally revealing half of a fiery red setting sun.

The door to the Gray Stamp Martial Arts Hall swung open, Phil and Casio were chatting while leisurely walking down Red Tower Street.

After only a few steps, they saw a black sedan parked by the roadside. This sedan was not like everyone else’s bulky and turtle-shell like vehicles, it was instead elongated. If you had to compare it to something, it looked a bit like the extended version of a Lincoln, rounded at the corners, and there was a silver decoration along the bottom edge.

On the hood was a pale golden crescent logo.

The driver’s seat window gradually lowered to reveal a handsome face. Matthew gently knocked on the car door and said, “Get in.”

Casio and Phil quickly got in the backseat, and a flurry of polite thank-yous echoed within the car.

Matthew had reserved a table by the window on the fifth floor of the Purple Sky Restaurant.

It was said that the view was nice, and the food was quite reliable. Most importantly, the environment was pleasant and cozy and not overly formal.

It’s not suitable for business talks, but it feels more friendly.

The reservation was for six-thirty. By the time the three arrived at their table, there were already some appetizers set out. Soon enough, Matthew and Casio started eating as they chatted.

Whether it was an act or a portrayal of genuine feelings, both of them showed a certain affinity for each other. Despite only meeting twice, totaling four hours, they called each other by their first names without any formalities.

By the time dinner was winding down, Matthew seemed to have had too much to drink and started addressing Casio as a brother, promising zealously that if there were anything bothersome they could come to him. As long as it was within his capabilities, he would help Casio!

Casio, it seemed, had also had his share of alcohol and did not hold back.

He immediately asked for two things.

The first was to find coins, the second was to find herbs.

Matthew agreed on the spot, saying that he would see to it the next day and would absolutely get it done within two weeks.

Casio, on the other hand, was full of gratitude, continually drinking and thanking Matthew.

As they ate, drank and traded stories, they spent a good three hours over dinner.

By the time they were done, it was already nine-thirty, almost ten.

Ten-ten at night, Banner Street, Jessica’s apartment.

“No need to see me any further, my apartment is just up ahead.” Casio, reeking of alcohol, got out of the car, waved, and walked toward the building.

“Take care.”

Matthew, by the car window, also waved, not taking his eyes off Casio until he disappeared around the corner. He then rolled up the window.

He blinked, and his originally drunk pupils became instantly clear. There wasn’t a hint of the drunkenness he exhibited at the dinner table just a moment ago.

He sat in the driver’s seat for a while longer.

Matthew glanced at his younger brother, peacefully sleeping in the back seat, took a sip from the teacup next to him, and then stepped on the gas pedal.

The elongated sedan quickly disappeared into the night.

Jessica’s apartment, the top floor, by the window of the bedroom.

A tall figure stood quietly in the darkness, looking down at the street below. His rigid silhouette was as if it was a statue.

Seeing the black sedan leaving and disappearing in the distance, only then did the figure close the window and draw the curtains. The light in the bedroom switched on with a click, casting a soft yellow glow, and becoming the only source of light in the apartment’s facade.
