I Can See Your Combat Power

Chapter 913: 207: Hell

Chapter 913: Chapter 207: Hell

This land of prosperity was a paradise set up by the Divine Protectors on earth, where only the pure Non-Tians and the reborn devotees of the nobility could safely revel in pleasure. As for someone of lowly status like him, even a glance was a desecration. The Divine Guards that guarded this place day and night would arrest him and then reduce him to slavery, to toil for some noble, unknown to him.

Dongzhi walked down this bustling avenue with such an anxious heart and then, he saw a troop of Divine Guards approach. And then, these Divine Guards suddenly lost consciousness and fell to the ground.

The nobles along the street cried out in alarm and then hid inside their houses. The bustling avenue instantly became empty, leaving only the sound of footsteps from him and the masked stranger. Dongzhi painfully closed his eyes, believing that the next moment would be his time of judgment.

But Tang Luo clearly did not share this realization. He was pointing to the ornate buildings on the roadside, which were starkly different from the simple housing styles, and casually chatting with Dongzhi, “Do you know who owns these buildings?”

Suppressing the urge to cry, Dongzhi said despondently, “Everything here belongs to the Divine Protectors.”

“Even if all this belongs to the Divine Protectors, why is it these people who live here? You call yourself lowly, and they call themselves nobles and Non-Tians, but what is this based on?” Tang Luo’s hoarse voice was mocking and disdainful.

...

“Of course, it’s determined by the sins of the past life,” Dongzhi explained. “I was a robber in my previous life, so I must atone with three lifetimes of lowly status. While these nobles, perhaps in their past lives they were monks who practiced austerities or devout believers. That’s why they were born into the paradise provided by the Divine Protectors, to enjoy a life of bliss.”

In Dongzhi’s eyes was a look full of deep belief and yearning, which made Tang Luo laugh without saying a word, “Who told you all this?”

“Of course, it was Master Jiuta. He is a holy monk from Hyderabad, a righteous person on earth in the service of the Divine Protectors, dedicating his life to them without marriage or children. Therefore, the Divine Protectors endowed him with divine powers, allowing Master Jiuta to see into past and future lives. Since he said I am destined to be a lowly person, there can be no mistake.”

In the tavern, the tough characters from the lowly district were fighting each other fiercely over the bag of Gold Coins Tang Luo had dropped, while the first to awaken, Gadhar, signaled to the young man with a glance, and they quickly slipped out the door.

Once outside, Gadhar quietly closed the tavern’s door and asked his apprentice in a low voice, “You little rascal, you were closer to the door. Did you see where that masked freak took Dongzhi?”

The young man shrank back and stammered, “He went towards the Holy City, Master, why aren’t we grabbing the gold in the tavern? Didn’t you say those people are no match for you?”

“Idiot!” Gadhar slapped his apprentice across the face and said angrily, “No wonder you’re called a fool!”

The young man held his swollen left cheek and said resentfully, “Master, why did you hit me?”

“Use your brain!” Gadhar prodded the young man’s forehead. “Ever since that lotus from Dongzhi’s family ran away years ago, how many jobs has that kid taken on? But do you see him having anything to show for it? That kid is stubbornly holding his breath, saving money so he can redeem himself and become a noble!”

“Is that so?” The young man’s mouth fell open in surprise, amazed at the grand dream of the boy his own age, because he knew how much gold and silver it would take to redeem oneself.

“In that bag, there might barely be forty or fifty Gold Coins at the most, and still you’d have to fight those lunatics for it. If you got hurt, there wouldn’t even be enough to cover the medical expenses!” Gadhar’s eyes glistened with shrewdness as he declared firmly, “Go find an axe and a hammer, we’re going to Dongzhi’s house!”

“What are we doing at Dongzhi’s house?” The young man, rubbing his face, asked in bewilderment.

“Slap!”

Gadaer slapped his right cheek again, bellowing angrily, “You fool, go look for it!”

The young man, hands covering his face, was clearly frightened by the beating and didn’t want to ask any further questions. He quickly ran to the woodshed beside the tavern, took out an axe and a stone hammer used for chopping wood, and followed Gadaer toward the East Wisdom residence.

Upon reaching the doorway of East Wisdom’s house, the young man saw the door sealed with several large locks and felt troubled. He looked down at the short axe and stone hammer in his hands, and timidly said, “Master, with so many locks on East Wisdom’s door, it will take us ages to break through. I’ve heard there are also numerous traps inside his house. Maybe, maybe we should just forget about it?”

“That kind of talk is only fit to scare fools and cowards like you!” Gadaer snatched the short axe from the young man’s hands, spat on it, smeared it, then gripped it tightly and raised it high, saying, “If there really were traps, why would there need to be so many locks? Clearly, it’s because that kid has hidden all his savings inside. When the time comes, Master will buy a wife, and you’ll have your fun too!”

While talking, Gadaer swung with all his might, the axe fell, chopping through a chain lock. The blade embedded itself in the wooden door, yet made a metallic clashing sound.

Turned out, there was a metal plate hidden within the wooden door. Gadaer was not alarmed but delighted, exclaiming excitedly, “I knew it! If they weren’t hiding a stash of money, why reinforce the door? Watch Master’s ‘Cloak of Disorderly Axe’!”

Smelling the strong scent of money, Gadaer swung the short axe vigorously, chopping through the door locks one by one. When the last lock fell, he kicked down East Wisdom’s front door.

Inside was a neatly arranged setup and clean furniture, especially the statue in the shrine, which was polished spotlessly clean.

Gadaer looked around and questioned suspiciously, “This clean house belongs to that wild kid from the East family?” He sniffed the air, and a faint, elegant fragrance incited a lecherous glint in his eyes, “I always wondered where this kid’s money went. So, he bought a wife! And he keeps her locked up, unwilling to meet others. It’s my lucky day!”

Handing the short axe to the young man, Gadaer instructed, “Stand guard outside for me. You’ll get to have your fun in a bit!”

The young man took the short axe, his face turning red, and stammered, “Ma… Master, weren’t we here for the money?”

“For the money? Right! You stay outside and look for money, Master will go inside and look for it!”

With that, Gadaer entered the inner room, rubbing his hands gleefully.

When East Wisdom arrived back at his residence with Tang Luo, they saw the scattered locks on the ground and the young man sitting on the threshold. East Wisdom’s mind buzzed, and he rushed up frantically. His heavy footsteps alerted the young man, who lifted his head only to be deafened before he could utter a sound, his head split open by a curved blade.

Kicking the corpse off the curved blade with one foot, East Wisdom charged into the room, only to be thrown out.

Gadaer glanced at his disciple, who had been cleaved to death, then cursed at the thin, dark boy lying in the snow, “You even killed Master’s disciple, a vile and merciless wretch! Today you’ll either give your wife to me or pay five hundred Gold Coins, otherwise this won’t end well!”

“I’ll kill you, you old bastard!” East Wisdom climbed out of the snow, furiously charging towards Gadaer.
