Chapter 319: Chapter 307: If even you can learn magic, then wouldn’t everyone be able to become a wizard?
Lydia, brimming with joy, held her exam paper and shouted excitedly. She could not believe she had actually passed the graduation exam, and with a not-so-low score at that!
Even though she scored zero in the Shaping subject, and her performance in Elements and Herbology was dismal, her high scores in practical combat and Alchemy meant she just scraped by with a passing grade in the practical exams.
Together with the excellent results she achieved in the written exams, her average score was a solid seventy-four, placing her among the top of all the apprentices!
Naturally, the ones even more thrilled than Lydia were Darren and the others, who had followed her into the academy early in the morning just to wait for that moment when the results were announced.
“That’s amazing, Lydia! It looks like you’re about to become the first halfling wizard!” “I knew you could do it!”
The halflings present spoke excitedly, having witnessed first-hand how Lydia had made it to this day step by step.
It was a consensus in Wizard Land that halflings lacked magical aptitude, but Lydia stubbornly refused to believe it, seeking to join the Iyeta Academy to study magic and become a true Alchemist!
To others, this was undoubtedly whimsical, even described as obstinate and foolish. A ground-pulling camel, no matter how hard it tries, can never fly like a griffin—the gift of magic is innate, marking the divide between Transcendents and commoners!
Despite the lack of recognition, enduring doubts and ridicule, Lydia never thought of giving up. She served as an assistant to an Alchemist, crafted various flying machines, all for the chance to learn magic!
All these efforts were undoubtedly failures, but fortunately, her luck was not all bad. Accidentally winning the favor of Principal Lynn, she participated in the creation of the Sky Airship, and finally fulfilled her agreement with Master Helram, joining the Iyeta Academy.
Now, having passed the examination, two whole years had flashed by in the blink of an eye.
This also meant that the halflings were finally going to have a real wizard!
“You’re all celebrating a bit too early. Passing this exam just earns you the qualification to take the Magic Source, not that you’ll become an official wizard…”
Debra, quite annoyed, interrupted the excited Lydia and the others, then continued with a sneer. “With your magical aptitude, even taking the Magic Source would be a waste; there’s no chance for you to become a wizard.”
Debra’s sharp words were like a bucket of cold water, extinguishing the halflings’ enthusiasm and instantly quieting the once-eager atmosphere…
Piers and the others by her side frowned but could not come up with any words of refutation. After all, as unpleasant as Debra’s words were, they were the harsh truth!
These apprentices who had passed the assessment still had one major hurdle to overcome—the final promotion ceremony!
As per tradition, only half would successfully advance, and Lydia, who still couldn’t master even a basic zero-tier spell, had a slim chance of becoming an official wizard.
Thinking of this, those who failed to pass the exam looked at Lydia with a hint of mockery in their eyes.
Even if by some fluke she passed this assessment, what then?
Whether a person could become a wizard was determined the moment they were born!
They failed this year, but there was always next year, and the year after—unlike her, they still harbored hope of becoming an official wizard!
Seeing Lydia’s spirit dampened by a few words from Debra, Johnny spoke thoughtfully. “Since Principal Lynn did not stop you from taking the graduation exam, perhaps he has a way to make you a wizard after all!”
She felt that the headmaster wouldn’t be so cruel as to give people hope and then destroy it.
Lydia’s eyes suddenly brightened; if it had been someone else offering a way for her to become a wizard, she might still harbor doubts, but if it was Headmaster Lynn, that was an entirely different matter!
Debra sneered, not agreeing with Johnny’s words. If even a half-man could learn magic, wouldn’t that mean everyone could become a wizard?
However, before she could speak again, Orlando had already walked over, calling the trainees who had passed the assessment one by one to head to the Tower of Whistling for the promotion ceremony.
After setting up the aerial transport routes, the entire promotion process also became extremely fast. After confirming the results of each trainee yesterday, Lynn had them take an airship to report to the council, and then bring back the Magic Source, which altogether took no more than half a day; they no longer had to wait foolishly for a week or two like before.
Debra and the others watched enviously as the apprentices called by name entered the towering building, while they could only wait outside.
Piers was the first to be chosen, nervously walking into the Tower of Whistling. Upon seeing Lynn, he bent down with utmost respect and saluted.
“Headmaster!”
“Piers, your performance this time was quite good. Though the written test was a bit lacking, you have a good grasp of elements, shaping, and herbology…” Lynn smiled as he handed over a potion bottle filled with a blue Magic Potion.
Piers excitedly took the Magic Potion, his hands almost trembling so much that he nearly spilled the precious potion.
Lynn found it amusing and reminded Piers that with such a poor state, he wouldn’t be able to complete the promotion.
After taking a few deep breaths and calming his emotions, Piers solemnly drank down the Magic Source.
A piercing cold rose from his abdomen. The power of the Magic Potion swiftly surged through his entire body before flooding into his brain. Then came a strange itching sensation, as if crawling out from his bones. Every cell in his body seemed to be torn apart and reassembled—it was a pain that penetrated deep into the soul…
Large beads of sweat rolled down Piers’s forehead.
His complexion gradually turned purplish, as if his blood was being drained, looking extremely terrifying.
The whole process lasted for about ten minutes, after which a strong magic fluctuation quickly emanated from Piers’s body.
Then, a blazing fireball appeared out of thin air. Piers immediately opened his eyes, his expression very joyful. Casting spells without materials, using Magic Mimicry to create elements—these were the symbols of a formal wizard!
“It looks like it was a success!” Lynn nodded with a smile.
“I’m very grateful to you, Headmaster. If it weren’t for you, I’d probably have remained a Wizard Apprentice all my life,” Piers said, bowing deeply in thanks.
Since he started attending the Eyeta Academy at the age of twelve, he had been a Wizard Apprentice for a full sixteen years, and was nearly thirty years old this year.
Due to a lack of talent and being unable to accumulate Magic Power, it was not until Lynn became a professor at Eyeta, bringing with him the incredibly innovative and computing power-enhancing course of Alchemy, that he had the opportunity for a breakthrough.
So for Headmaster Lynn, Piers was naturally extremely grateful…
What do you think?
