Chapter 370: Chapter 358: The Roar of Heavy Machine Guns, This Is Not a Battle, It’s a Massacre!

As the front lines were not yet completely broken through, Lydia and Ailoke quickly took command, busily setting up three machine guns on both sides of the street, while soldiers equipped with firing guns also formed two neat rows.

Enemy forces arrived much faster than expected, almost immediately after they had finished their formation.

In the distance, hundreds of well-armored soldiers from the God’s Punishment Army were already charging, with dozens in the front ranks holding greatswords and massive shields, creating a solid shield wall.

“Are those the God’s Punishment Army?

They don’t seem so special…” Lydia muttered quietly.

...

Old York’s mouth twitched involuntarily, and he hastily interjected, “Lady Lydia, never underestimate them.

These people are formidable, able to easily prevail even when faced with numerous foes at once, and the massive shields in their hands are augmented with Divine Arts, impenetrable even to our firearms!”
Though most of the gunners were on the battlefield for the first time, their bayonet skills had become quite strong after tough training in Wizard Land against formidable magical beasts.

Yet, these God’s Punishment Army soldiers could still cut them down swiftly and decisively, like slicing through vegetables.

Despite their numbers being greater than the enemy’s in this area, a retreat was inevitable…

“Then let me see for myself!” Lydia straightened her face and gestured with her hand.

The gunners behind her immediately understood, loading red bullets into their muskets, and then aimed at the enemies who had stepped into range.

“Fire!” At the young girl’s command, a hundred gunners in two rows unleashed a volley, and a series of ear-piercing shots rang out along the narrow streets.

The bullets collided with the heavy shields and exploded violently, the alchemical explosive bullets specifically designed by the Alchemical Research Institute proved to be highly effective, instantly causing more than twenty casualties.

Surprise and delight spread across the faces of York and the others, as piercing the enemy’s “turtle shell” had been their most vexing challenge.

However, as the elite forces of the Holy See, not a single soldier from the God’s Punishment Army recoiled from the powerful new firearms.

They ignored their fallen comrades and had already covered the distance to within seventy meters before the second row of gunners could fire again.

From previous battles, they knew that these witchcrafted weapons required at least a minute to reload after firing, which meant that if they could withstand this next volley, the enemy in front of them would become defenseless sheep for the slaughter.

But accompanying the second volley came the blasts of three machine guns set up on the street!

Amidst the dust and firelight stirred up by the alchemical bullets’ explosions, a relentless barrage of machine-gun fire erupted!

Rat-a-tat-tat…

The machine guns spewed forth a torrent of bullets, whizzing through the air and leaving piercing sonic booms in their wake, a fierce burst of flame spouting with them.

The soldiers of the God’s Punishment Army, just emerging from the dusty shroud of the streets, were met with a sweeping rain of bullets, and whether it was their finely crafted armor or their proud physical resilience, all seemed fragile before this steel-tearing fusillade…

The soldiers at the very front of the God’s Punishment Army were enveloped in a crimson mist of blood, riddled with bullets in an instant!

The narrow street was undoubtedly the perfect place to demonstrate the machine gun’s devastating power, as there was no chance for the enemy to evade.

Their only option was to charge, charge, and charge again!

“As long as they could reach these people, victory would be theirs!”
Unfortunately, they bet wrong.

By the time the three machine guns stopped firing, the street was littered with nothing but shattered bodies.

Old York and others were dumbfounded by this scene.

The massacre lasted only just over a minute, and the hundreds of elite troops that had been troubling them and causing great chaos in the capital were all wiped out!

“It looks like we’re a bit stronger after all!” Lydia smiled with pride, but her expression collapsed when she glanced at the depleted ammunition supply.

A full three thousand rounds of fixed ammunition, the amount that hundreds of Wizard Apprentices had been producing for five whole days, were all used up.

How would they support other battlefields now?

While the machine gun’s power was immense, the consumption of bullets was terrifyingly high.

By now, Old York had recovered from his shock and hurriedly spoke.

“Lady Lydia, the enemies we’ve killed are just a detachment of the invading force.

I estimate that at least two thousand elite troops have reached the capital through hidden passages…”
“That many!” Ailoke frowned.

Despite their recent effortless victory over more than four hundred elite soldiers, Ailoke, unlike Lydia, did not underestimate these elite troops of the Cathedral.

Their ability to defeat several times their number of the capital’s guards showed they were not to be messed with.

Without the powerful support of machine guns, even including the new army equipped with firing guns, it wouldn’t be an easy task to deal with so many elite troops.

“Do you know where they went?” Ailoke asked.

“Some scattered and are causing chaos in the capital.

As for the main force, judging by their direction, they seem to be headed for the Alchemy Academy,” Old York said gravely.

“Then there’s no need to worry,” Lydia breathed a sigh of relief.

The Alchemy Academy’s defenses were strong, and most of the new army equipped with firing guns were guarding there.

But the situation developed beyond Lydia’s expectations because following the elite troops toward the Alchemy Academy were Pulson and Arno, the two Cardinal antagonists.

“It seems this place is the heart of the capital’s defensive forces!” Pulson stepped into the blood-soaked Alchemy Academy amidst screams and shouts.

Using his Divine Arts, he scanned the area and, as he suspected, all the Magic Power was converging here!

If they destroyed this place, the capital, bright as day, would plunge back into darkness, and the protective magic set up around the city would collapse in an instant.

Arno, freshly pulled from prison, had a ferocious look on his face.

During his stay in the capital, he had been tormented by those damned Spiritual Energy Wizards and had to bear it in silence, enduring until the capital fell into chaos before he could escape his cage.

His heart was ablaze with rage!

“Let the glory of the divine cleanse the sins of this place!” Arno shouted venomously as a tremendous divine power began to surge around him.

Thunderous roars echoed to the heavens, while crisscrossing trenches spread across the ground.

Large structures collapsed into rubble under the wrath of the divine force!

Countless remains of walls flew about in mid-air, like a storm of the apocalypse, sweeping toward the Wizards still resisting…
