Chapter 456: Chapter 442 Ivina Infiltrates the Enemy Camp, The Shock Brought by Airships and Fighter Jets
Is there really such a place as the Wizard’s Kingdom?
Although the wizards present had all heard the news, they were all somewhat skeptical because the rumors were simply too exaggerated; some even believed it was a trap laid by the church to lure them into a snare.
In the midst of silence, Lucas led everyone on a frantic run, using the cover of trees and bushes.
What drove the wizards to despair, however, was that they had emerged from the dense forest to find themselves in a vast wilderness, meaning they would have no more places to hide!
Lucas then realized that the knights had intentionally driven them in this direction.
At the moment of distraction, a dozen arrows, shining with Divine Radiance, darted out from the dense forest behind them.
“Duck!”
In the midst of urgent shouting, Lucas also sensed the impending danger and nearly instantly a Mage Shield was cast upon him.
But the sturdy magic shield was hardly effective against the arrows imbued with anti-magic Divine Arts, and was quickly broken through.
One of the arrows went straight through the shield, embedding deeply into his shoulder.
Lucas’s face twisted in pain, but more so in fear, as several more anti-magic arrows were shooting towards his chest.
“Slash!” Just then, the voice of a young girl suddenly rang out lowly, and a slender sword blade swept past Lucas’s side. Under the sparks that scattered, three anti-magic arrows were struck down.
Lucas, still in shock, retreated several steps and then realized that their rescuer was a young brown-haired girl with delicate features and a touch of dust on her face, her brows revealing a hint of sternness,
“Thank you for your help,” Lucas said gratefully, thinking quickly to recognize the young girl in front of him.
Ivina, a wizard of the Dove School, expert in Shaping Science, and rumored to be of noble birth with a strong hand in swordsmanship before becoming a wizard.
Yet just the day before, the Dove School’s base had been attacked by a large group of witch hunters, almost annihilating the entire school. Only two managed to escape and joined the Mutual Assistance Council.
Lucas couldn’t help but sigh; too many wizard schools had been severely damaged or even destroyed recently. Ivina’s Dove School was neither the first nor the last.
“Let’s save the thanks for later, now is not the time for such talk,” Ivina responded blandly, swiftly cutting off the arrow on Lucas’s shoulder.
Considering blood loss, Ivina didn’t pull it out, as this was no place to treat a wound.
“I know there’s a village not far from this wilderness. Maybe we can shake off these enemies there,” Ivina said quickly, glancing at the knights bursting from the forest.
The wizards present were overjoyed, but their joy lasted only a moment, as everyone realized they couldn’t possibly outrun the Cavalry across the wilderness unless they left some to cover their retreat!
Lucas clenched his teeth, understanding that they would all die unless they abandoned some of their number.
“Look, what is that?” Suddenly, a wizard pointed to the sky and exclaimed, turning everyone’s gaze in the direction he was pointing.
In the direction they were looking, black dots appeared on the distant horizon and were quickly closing in.
“The ship, that looks like a ship flying in the sky…” Ivina murmured with astonishment.
Just as Ivina had said, as these flying objects drew closer, they resembled immense and majestic ships soaring through the sky.
They were entirely in shades of blue-green, with an enormous elliptical gasbag mounted on top of each vessel, bound tightly by dozens of sturdy chains, exuding an industrial aesthetic.
So this is the aerial airship?
Ivina was utterly amazed. Though she had seen information on these things in documents, witnessing them in person still left her profoundly shaken.
Such massive things could actually fly in the sky!
Not only the Wizards but also the Knights of the Church noticed the sudden appearance of the airships. However, instead of slowing down their pursuit, they increased their speed, aiming to capture Lucas and the others before the reinforcements arrived!
“Hold on everyone, our reinforcements have arrived!” Lucas shouted to boost morale, but the official Wizards and apprentices around him still felt heavy-hearted.
For in front of them was a cavalry unit consisting of four thousand men, led by several Bishops!
The thundering sound of horse hooves grew closer, kicking up clouds of dust in waves, surging towards them.
Crossbow arrows were being reloaded, the lethal arrowheads reflecting a chilling gleam in the midday sun.
Ivina gripped her slender blade with a somber expression. To execute the infiltration plan flawlessly, she was not familiar with these Bishops pursuing the Wizards, nor did she have any contact with them, only having prepared an escape plan.
Like the secret passage she had mentioned in the village, it could be used to avoid pursuit and meanwhile gain the trust of the Wizards accompanying her.
But this also meant that she would be subject to unrestricted pursuit by friendly forces!
In the face of such a dense barrage of crossbow fire, Ivina didn’t have a hundred percent confidence she could withstand it.
Just as the witch-hunting Knights finished loading their crossbows and were about to fire, a tremendous roaring noise erupted overhead. Then, a light twisted before two winged fighters, each with a wingspan of dozens of meters, appeared in front of everyone.
They looked like Gard Falcons, except made of steel and enlarged several times over, speeding unimaginably fast over the heads of Lucas and his companions. The powerful airflow from their massive wings dispersed the dust around, and then they charged straight towards the four thousand Cavalry.
The oncoming steel fighters quickly caught the attention of the witch-hunting Knights. Countless crossbows aimed skyward, but their speed was too fast – at a velocity of 360 kilometers per hour, it was hard to aim effectively.
The next moment, the violent rattling of the machine guns erupted by everyone’s ears, almost bursting their eardrums.
Flames burst from the barrels, and the fierce barrage struck the bodies of the witch-hunting Knights. In the blink of an eye, it pierced through their iron armors, turning their flesh into sieves.
Bright red blood sprayed across the battlefield, agonizing screams merging into a continuous chorus, leaving a horrific blood trail in the wake of the fighters!
In the span of a few brief seconds, during one charge, hundreds of witch-hunting Knights already lay in pools of blood, with dismembered bodies strewn across the field, the rich scent of blood relentlessly spreading through the air…
