Chapter 2210 - 2211: Trickery
Chapter 2210: Chapter 2211: Trickery
“Why didn’t you vote?”
“I saw someone was not happy, so I didn’t vote.”
“I certainly wasn’t.”
“The someone I’m talking about isn’t you.”
Lin Yi found himself caught between laughter and tears, “Ji Qingyan, are you itching for a spanking?”
Lin Yi’s hand shot out, pinching Ji Qingyan’s bottom and eliciting a coquettish rebuke.
“This is the company. Don’t get handsy.”
Ji Qingyan returned to her chair and said:
“I was watching the news this morning. A lot of people were caught in Pengcheng, including members of the Pengcheng Chamber of Commerce. Seems like they went through a thorough investigation. Couldn’t this be related to our case, occurring at this exact time?”
“You know about the Pengcheng Chamber of Commerce?”
“Of course.”
Ji Qingyan stated matter-of-factly:
“The Pengcheng Chamber of Commerce is one of the big three chambers of commerce in China, alongside the Jin City Chamber of Commerce and the Huaqi Association. They are very famous, virtually encompassing all the notable entrepreneurs. Now that the Pengcheng Chamber has fallen, the other two will dominate.”
“Those who engage in too much injustice will destroy themselves. They’ve done many disgusting things, so it’s only natural that they’ve come to this end,” Lin Yi said, hands behind his head, “By tackling this case, we’ve also contributed to taking them down for the country.”
“Having cracked such a big case, do you have any plans for what’s next? Will you continue to ‘experience life’?”
Ji Qingyan flipped through the documents in her hands, not looking at Lin Yi, as if speaking nonchalantly.
“Er…”
Lin Yi knew what Ji Qingyan meant; she simply didn’t want him to remain in danger and hoped he’d switch to a safer job.
“Almost there…” Lin Yi evaded the question, “I’ve got a few other things to wrap up. After that’s done, I’ll consider changing jobs.”
“That works.”
Ji Qingyan tacitly did not press further on the matter.
She knew it wasn’t her place to say much more.
Love is about freedom, not restriction.
At noon, Lin Yi, following Ji Qingyan, ate lunch together in the company canteen, then drove to the Xinshan branch office to report in detail about the events in Pengcheng.
After 3 p.m., Lin Yi received a call from Ji Qingyan, asking when he would return, as they had an evening appointment with Lee Yongjin.
Zhong Hai, Waldorf Hotel.
Around five in the evening, Lee Yongjin changed into her clothes and came out of the bedroom.
She wore a light blue dress that fell around her knees and layered it with a beige Hermes blazer, complemented by black Jimmy Choo high heels. The whole ensemble was harmoniously stylish, a blend of strength and softness.
After changing, Lee Yongjin retouched her makeup in front of the mirror, grabbed her white handbag, and left the room.
A formally dressed woman stood outside the room. She had a businesslike ‘mature woman’ style, but her unsmiling expression did not match her outfit and even appeared somewhat odd.
The woman’s name was Sun Shengxi, Lee Yongjin’s personal bodyguard. She used to be part of Korea’s official department before Lee Yongjin hired her at a high price to come to China.
“This is a private dinner; you don’t need to accompany me.”
“But it’s a critical time; I’m afraid those people will harass you,” Sun Shengxi said.
“There will be someone very capable attending dinner tonight; with him there, there won’t be any problems. Don’t worry.”
“But I find the people here in China unreliable. I can’t guarantee the level of safety. Miss, let me accompany you, please.” @@novelbin@@
Lee Yongjin’s face revealed an elegant smile, “Then let’s go together.”
They left the hotel together and drove to a French restaurant named ULTRAVIOLET by Paul Pairet.
Since she had invited Ji Qingyan to dinner, Lee Yongjin arrived ten minutes early, handling all matters of etiquette perfectly.
About ten minutes later, Lin Yi arrived at the restaurant with Ji Qingyan and saw Lee Yongjin standing at the entrance.
Lin Yi stroked his chin; this woman’s allure was even stronger than Ji Qingyan’s and Liang Ruoxu’s.
She was the type who became more captivating with age, yet her powerful presence meant people only dared to admire from afar and not toy with her frivolously.
Before this, Lee Yongjin had been waiting at the door very politely.
Upon seeing Ji Qingyan, she smiled and approached for a hug.
“I knew no matter how I dressed today, I couldn’t outshine you,” Lee Yongjin sighed.
“That’s because people with real ability never rely on appearances to define themselves.”
The two exchanged business pleasantries upon meeting.
But it was evident that their personal relationship was quite good.
Lin Yi was about to tease Lee Yongjin but suddenly noticed something odd.
He glanced out of the corner of his eye and saw a blonde, blue-eyed foreigner at a nearby flower bed, intensely talking on the phone as if arguing with someone.
But the man’s speech was illogical, and he kept glancing in Lin Yi’s direction from time to time.
Lin Yi’s keen intuition told him something wasn’t right.
He furrowed his brow, wondering if there was a connection between the foreigner and Lee Yongjin’s sudden visit.
“Lin Yi?”
Lost in thought, Lin Yi heard Ji Qingyan lightly calling him.
“Director Li is greeting you.”
“We’re all friends here; no need to stand on ceremony,” Lin Yi didn’t bother with formalities with Lee Yongjin, “Let’s go eat. I’m kind of hungry.”
Lee Yongjin also smiled, finding it hard to associate the man before her, who didn’t take life too seriously, with the ruthless person from before.
However, Sun Shengxi, standing to the side, couldn’t stop inspecting Lin Yi.
Before coming, Lee Yongjin had said that there would be someone in charge of security, and judging by the current situation, it seemed this man was the one.
Yet this man appeared to be nothing special, just an unremarkable, impolite man.
The four entered the restaurant together, but Sun Shengxi did not sit down; instead, she stood at a distance, surveying the surroundings.
Lin Yi did the same, looking around.
He suspected the man at the door was problematic but couldn’t be sure.
Soon, dinner started, and the primary focus was small talk.
It was clear that the personal relationship between the two was quite good; Ji Qingyan knew a lot about her counterpart’s personal matters.
As time passed, the conversation gradually turned to work matters, and Lee Yongjin even expressed a willingness to cooperate, which puzzled Lin Yi.
Considering his previous threat to her, Lin Yi thought there would be no more dealings between them, yet here she was, seeking collaboration.
What the heck was this old dame up to?
What do you think?
