Chapter 2276: Chapter 2277: The Killer is Nearby
“Which part?”
“You’re right to investigate in that direction—the closer you get to the truth, the more panicked the murderer becomes and the more they try to hinder your investigation,” Yuluo declared.
“In other words, such a vicious incident is sufficient to indicate that your investigation is very close to the truth—you should understand what I mean.”
“Understood.”
“Is there anything else? If not, I need to get busy.”
“Team Leader Qiu, it’s tough working so soon after the holiday.”
“What work,” Yuluo said irritably.
“My mom made me go shopping with her, and I couldn’t even refuse. It’s driving me crazy.”
“There’s nothing I can do to help there, bye.”
Lin Yi didn’t continue chatting with Yuluo; after hanging up the phone, he found a secluded corner to sit down.
Yuluo’s words had given him a wake-up call.
Such an incident was indeed enough to show that the investigation carried out by Li Xianghui and Ling Han was very close to the truth, or else the other party wouldn’t have taken such a risky step.
Though both of them held significant positions, which might not mean much in a city like Zhong Hai, they still had a certain social status—surely the other party wouldn’t do such a thing unless absolutely necessary.
Lin Yi recollected the conversation with Li Xianghui.
A major discovery had been made in Ma Dehong’s case—Wang Mei Jia had given the leftover medicine Ma Dehong had to a prisoner named Sun Xueqiang.
A few days later, he had suddenly suffered a cerebral hemorrhage.
But afterward, Wang Mei Jia switched to a new batch of medicine and hasn’t encountered any problems since eating them.
The medicine was the same as before, Betalek from the same manufacturer, only with a newer production date.
But even so, there should be no difference between the new and old medicine and certainly no issue of them being expired.
Maybe there was a real possibility that the medicine given to Ma Dehong was indeed problematic.
But whether his guess was accurate couldn’t be arbitrarily concluded; it required further investigation.
Ring, ring, ring—
At that moment, Lin Yi’s phone rang, and it was Li Chuhan calling.
“Xin Xin bought the food; let’s eat first.”
“Okay, I’ll come over now.”
Unable to make head or tail of the case, Lin Yi decided to relax a bit, and then he headed to Inpatient Department Eight.
When he reached Li Chuhan’s break room, he saw Qiao Xin had bought four dishes and three cups of milk tea, quite a feast.
“Lin Bro, you don’t have to worry. Sister Li just called the head of ICU, and that patient named Li Xianghui is doing quite fine.”
“I just asked about that too. If he recovers well, he might be able to be discharged tonight,” Lin Yi said.
“But, I still feel there are many perplexing aspects of this case that need more thought.”
Hearing this, Qiao Xin’s eyes lit up, “Quickly, Lin Bro, tell me what’s bothering you, I’ll help you analyze.”
Lin Yi knew that Qiao Xin was a die-hard Detective Conan fan, so he didn’t keep anything from her and decided to indulge her hobby.
However, he kept some special details from the case to himself, though it didn’t hinder her from analyzing.
“My goodness, this case is really complex,” Qiao Xin exclaimed after hearing it.
“Exactly why I’m stuck, you being a ten-year Conan fan, quickly help me figure out what’s going on.”
“I may be a fan, but this case is indeed complex; my brain is a bit inadequate.”
“It’s nothing,” Lin Yi remarked sarcastically. “I had you pegged as the hope of the entire village, and it turns out you don’t know anything.”
“Hey, Lin Bro, you can’t say that,” Qiao Xin said mysteriously.
“You know, I’ve seen a few cases like this in Conan, which might give you some hints.”
“What hints? Tell me.”
“Actually, cases like this often have very simple truths; we just overthink things. Maybe the murderer is right beside us, and we just haven’t noticed.”
“What kind of reasoning is that?” Lin Yi said, chuckling.
“Reality and comics are still different; you can’t completely bring them together.”
“Yeah, I know that, just thought to give you a heads-up; it might be useful.”
“Alright, I’ll think more about that,” Lin Yi called out, “Let’s eat first, forget these troubles.”
“Okay!”
Ring, ring, ring—
Just then, Lin Yi’s phone rang again; it was Ning Che calling.
“Where are you?” Ning Che asked straightforwardly as soon as the call connected.
“At the hospital.”
“Wait for me there; I’ll be there soon.”
“You’re in Zhong Hai?”
“I’ve been in Shianggang these past few days, investigating that pharmaceutical company. Things are almost settled, and I was planning to go back to Yanjing, but Yuluo told me something happened on your end, and since I’m free, I thought I’d come over.”
“Alright, do you need someone to pick you up?”
“No need, I’ll call you when I get there, and we can meet up.”
“Okay.”
After a brief chat, Lin Yi hung up and then the three of them ate together.
During the meal, Qiao Xin kept chattering incessantly, helping Lin Yi analyze the case from different perspectives.
However, Lin Yi didn’t take it to heart, as Qiao Xin’s analysis had many aspects that were unreliable and didn’t fit in the case.
After their meal, Lin Yi, having nothing better to do, went to the ward to see if Li Xianghui’s family needed any help.
When Lin Yi arrived at the ward, he found that Ling Han was also there, speaking with Li Xianghui’s wife.
“Why are you here? Weren’t you supposed to be resting at home?”
“I can’t sit still at home, and it’s not a serious illness,” Ling Han replied.
“After such a big incident, I want to catch the culprit driver quickly.”
“You’re injured like this; leave this worrying to others,” Lin Yi said.
“I’ll call you when we catch the driver.”
“Is there any progress? Any leads?”
“Not yet; still pretty clueless.”
Ling Han sighed, a look of disappointment crossing his face.
“Is there anything I can do to help?”
“Don’t worry about it; if there’s help needed, it doesn’t need to come from you.”
“Then I’ll stay here with your sister-in-law for a while. If you need help, just call me,” Ling Han said with a smile.
“Can’t help much with other things, but analyzing the case, I can do that.”
“Sure, stay with sister-in-law then.”
After talking with Ling Han, Lin Yi reassured Li Xianghui’s wife a bit and then left.
Not long after, Lin Yi received a call from Ning Che, asking for his exact location, ready to come and find him.
At the same time, Gu Yiran arrived at the hospital and found Lin Yi.
“The lab results are out.”
What do you think?
