Chapter 839: Chapter 840 Pond_1
The quest reward this time was five Hawk mount eggs, and with a 20% increase in rewards, that was essentially an extra Hawk egg given out. You should know, these are flying mounts, and their price is now over three hundred thousand Doomsday Coins, with them being perpetually in short supply.
Plus, the reason Song Jian entered here was precisely for these flying mounts;
“Do you have any more? I’ll pay for them!” Song Jian stared at the Goblin merchant Jin Yin’s cargo box and asked;
“It’s very expensive. These are flying mounts. If it weren’t for this batch of goods, I would never have offered them as quest rewards,” said the Goblin merchant, his face pained.
“Don’t worry, market price. You won’t be at a loss!” Song Jian reassured him.
At this moment, the Goblin merchant was quietly placing six Guardian Feathers and a crimson Harpy leader’s crown into the cargo box when a sudden insight struck Song Jian’s mind.
...
“I originally thought these quest items were merely hunting proofs, but it seems their value far exceeds my imagination!” Song Jian thought to himself.
Being able to offer up five, no, six Hawk flying mount eggs as a reward, apart from being able to retrieve the goods, likely meant the value of these quest items was not much less than the Hawk eggs themselves;
Upon this realization, Song Jian’s expression turned grim;
Seeing Song Jian’s gaze fixed on those quest items, Goblin merchant Jin Yin’s complexion also changed, and with a sigh, he said, “Alright, alright, since you’ve helped me out this much, I’ve got another five Hawk eggs here. I’ll sell them all to you.”
As he spoke, Jin Yin pulled another five Hawk eggs from the cargo box and placed them in front of Song Jian;
Having spent over a million Doomsday Coins on these five Hawk eggs, Song Jian’s expression visibly softened after completing the transaction, which inwardly relieved Jin Yin.
“By the way, is there any other secret place in this valley besides the Harpies’ nests?” Song Jian asked as he put the Hawk eggs into his inventory and stood up, looking around.
“This isn’t the Harpies’ nest but merely a simple place. Besides, the Harpies that occupy this area are just traitors who have escaped from the actual Harpy nests. They are now no more than a band of bandits and have nothing to do with true Harpies,” said Jin Yin, shaking his head. “The real Harpy nests are hidden within a Spatial Rift. Without a key, it’s impossible to find the place. It’s said to be a paradise for Harpies, with ten great mountains as their dwelling!”
“Ten great mountains?” Song Jian raised an eyebrow, thinking of the silver feather in his inventory slot, the token that could open the Harpy nests, likely the key Jin Yin mentioned that could enter the Harpy nests;
“Yes, ten great mountains!” Jin Yin nodded, his face showing a longing as he said, “It is said that within these mountains lie the true treasures of the Harpies, valuables collected by them over hundreds of years, priceless indeed. Unfortunately, it’s the real home of the Harpies, and without being one of them, it’s simply impossible to enter!”
Song Jian smiled faintly, now that his mission was accomplished, he no longer needed to stay in this valley. Just as he was about to bid farewell to the Goblin merchant, a sharp hawk’s cry suddenly echoed from the distant valley, instantly changing his expression.
“Are there Hawks in this valley too?” Song Jian was taken aback and couldn’t help asking.
“I don’t know, I just followed these harpies here and didn’t know there was anything in this valley,” the goblin merchant shook his head and said.
Song Jian nodded without saying anything and turned towards the direction where he had just heard the cry of the hawks;
The goblin merchant stayed where he was to take stock of his inventory that had been returned to him. After he had packed up everything, he was ready to leave when he suddenly stopped, seemingly recalling something. He then hid all of his goods in the shadow of a large rock and stealthily headed in the direction Song Jian had left;
The valley was vast. Along the way, Song Jian managed to gather a few rare herbs in the valley’s forest, a fruitful harvest. Passing through the forest, he came upon a waterfall. The waterfall was only a few meters wide and over ten meters high. Below it was a deep pond from which a faint threat seemed to emanate, as if there was something lurking that could endanger his life;
Looking up, Song Jian saw two adult hawks circling constantly above the waterfall, crying out mournfully again and again. Sometimes they even looked as though they would dive down, but ultimately, they seemed to have a deep wariness of the area and never did come down.
Song Jian found it odd and began to search carefully around the edge of the pond. Before long, he spotted two young hawks, each about the size of a chick, flapping their newly grown downy wings as they tumbled over each other on the grass, trying to stand up.
“Hawk chicks?” Song Jian’s eyes narrowed. Natural flying pets like these were easy to find but difficult to capture due to the adult hawks that invariably guarded them nearby;
These two young hawks had somehow fallen into the valley’s grassland, and the adult hawks guarding them did not dare to come down because of the creature lurking in the pond;
Song Jian strode over and caught the two young hawks in his palm. Seeing Song Jian capture the young hawks, the two adult hawks overhead cried out in despair and actually turned to leave;
System: You have discovered young hawk chicks. Would you like to subdue them to become combat pets/flying mounts?
Generally, after capturing a young beast, there are two types of training directions: one as a combat pet that can aid in battle, and the other as a mount;
As it is now, once a direction is chosen, it cannot be changed. If you opt to train them as combat pets, the young hawks will develop towards combat as they level up. If you choose to train them as flying mounts, they will develop towards carrying riders in flight.
Song Jian directly chose to decline. Whether it was flying mounts or combat pets, Black Dragon already met his needs; he decided to just take the two young hawks back to Wang Qi to establish a flying cavalry unit.
Having taken the young hawk chicks, Song Jian began to carefully inspect the surroundings. This was a valley, and there wouldn’t be young hawks here under normal circumstances;
Soon, Song Jian noticed on the cliff next to the waterfall, there was a vast cluster of holes in the rock that looked like honeycombs. These holes were identical to those he had seen when he first entered this valley. It was not hard to imagine that behind these holes were more hawk nests;
Looking back, Song Jian realized this place was at least several hundred meters from the area where he had entered the valley. He hadn’t expected the territory of Eagle Falcon Cliff to be so vast, and the number of hawks in Eagle Falcon Cliff was likely far greater than he had initially discovered;
…
What do you think?
