I Inherited Trillions, Now What?

Chapter 45 Auction III

The luxurious atmosphere of Hudson Heights became even more captivating as the lights dimmed, and the buzz of conversation faded. The spotlight illuminated the stage where the stunning blonde auctioneer stood, poised and elegant. In a sleek black dress that shimmered under the lights, she was the very picture of sophistication. The audience fell into a hush, their eyes fixed on her as she prepared to begin the evening's proceedings.

"Ladies and gentlemen," she began, her voice smooth yet commanding, "thank you for joining us at this exclusive event. Tonight, we present a collection of extraordinary items—pieces that represent the pinnacle of luxury, rarity, and craftsmanship."

As she gestured toward a display, the first item was revealed: an Audemars Piguet Grand Complication (Ref. 6300A-010). This one-of-a-kind watch, crafted in stainless steel, featured a stunning dial with multiple complications—perpetual calendar, minute repeater, and split-seconds chronograph. Diamonds surrounded the bezel, glimmering under the stage lights, drawing every eye in the room.

"The starting bid for this exceptional timepiece is $25 million," the auctioneer announced.

A hand from the Arab family raised slowly, signaling their interest. One of the family's members, dressed in an impeccable white Thobe, leaned forward, clearly eager to make their move.

"Thirty million," he declared confidently.

The auctioneer smiled, her eyes moving to the others. There was a brief moment of hesitation before another bidder raised his hand, a sleek businessman in a custom-tailored suit from Monaco.

"Thirty-five million," he said coolly, his voice low but firm.

The Arab family's representative raised an eyebrow but didn't hesitate long. "Forty million," he countered.

The auctioneer's smile remained as she continued, her gaze sweeping across the room. "Forty million once… twice… sold!"

The applause was polite but restrained, as the Arab family claimed their prize—a watch worth a small fortune.

Next, a tray was brought forward, and the auctioneer unveiled the next item: a Patek Philippe Grand Complication (Ref. 6300A-010), a breathtaking piece that an older model had been sold for $31 million in 2016. This particular model was renowned for its technical complexity and was even rarer due to its craftsmanship in steel, a material Patek Philippe rarely used for such high-end models. It was considered a masterpiece in the world of horology.

"The opening bid is $50 million," the auctioneer announced.

Immediately, the businessman from Monaco raised his paddle again. "Fifty-five million," he called out, his confidence unwavering.

An older gentleman, seated near the front, raised his paddle with a subtle but commanding gesture. "Sixty million," he offered, his voice steady and sure.

The auctioneer raised her brow, clearly impressed. "Sixty million, going once… going twice…"

"Seventy million," Catherine Vanderbilt's voice rang out, her tone calm but firm, drawing everyone's attention. She had remained silent through the first few rounds, her focus unwavering on the items presented, but now, she was making a serious play.

David, who had been sitting beside her, leaned in with a smirk. "Seventy million for that one? thought you didn't like watches, huh?"

Catherine gave him a look, her attention still on the auction. "It's for my father's birthday," she said with a cool smile.

The auctioneer nodded and confirmed, "Seventy million, then. Sold, to Miss Vanderbilt!"

David watched as Catherine took possession of the rare watch, her expression one of quiet satisfaction. He wasn't surprised by the figure—it was just another piece in her collection of high-end gifts for her father.

"Bold move," David said, looking around the room as the next item was brought forward.

The next lot was a true marvel: a The Pink Star Diamond, a 59.60-carat pink diamond that had once been sold for over $71 million. The gem was presented in a custom-made platinum setting, radiating a soft pink hue that seemed to glow with an ethereal light. Its rarity was unmatched, a symbol of luxury and exclusivity beyond anything most of the guests could comprehend.

"The opening bid for this masterpiece is $75 million," the auctioneer announced, her voice filled with reverence for the extraordinary gem.

David glanced at the diamond for a moment, then at Catherine, a mischievous smile forming on his lips. Without waiting for her response, he raised his paddle.

"Ninety million," he said, fully intending to claim the rare diamond for himself. He could already envision Catherine wearing it—its soft, ethereal glow complementing her beauty, the perfect fusion of elegance and strength.

The room held its breath as the bids surged. As the price rose higher, the crowd began to murmur, unsure of who would take the final prize. Finally, a voice cut through the tension: "One hundred million," came the low, commanding voice of none other than Madeline Astor, an heir to one of the world's wealthiest families, known for her passion for the rarest treasures.

.The auction continued with other rare jewels and watches, including a Rolex Daytona "Paul Newman" (Ref. 6239), which fetched a staggering $18 million, and a Vacheron Constantin Historiques 222, a watch valued at $10 million. David made strategic bids on a few items, but his focus was locked on the final lot of the evening.

Then, as the auction approached its climax, the auctioneer announced the next lot: the Hope Diamond, one of the most famous and valuable diamonds in the world, valued at over $250 million. It was an item that seemed almost untouchable, a symbol of untold wealth and history.

"The opening bid is $250 million," the auctioneer said, her voice filled with awe. "This is truly one of the most exclusive pieces to ever be offered for sale."

The room fell silent. No one raised their hand at first. The sheer magnitude of the opening bid seemed to freeze everyone in place, unsure of whether to even make a move.

David, his confidence unwavering, leaned forward in his seat. His gaze locked onto the diamond, imagining how stunning it would look on Catherine. Without hesitation, he raised his paddle.

"Two hundred and seventy-five million," he said calmly, his voice cutting through the tension like a knife.

The auctioneer's eyes widened, her gaze shifting between David and the rest of the guests. "Two hundred and seventy-five million, once… twice…"

A hush fell over the room. It was clear that no one else would dare bid against him. David had made his move, and the room understood that this was his to claim.

"Sold," the auctioneer announced with a nod, her voice steady as she finalized the transaction.

David sat back in his seat, a quiet smile crossing his face as he looked at the other bidders, who could only look on in silence.

Catherine glanced at him, her face unreadable. David, however, was already picturing her reaction when she saw the Hope Diamond, knowing it would be the ultimate statement of affection and power.

As the excitement from the Hope Diamond bidding died down, the auctioneer gracefully moved to the center of the stage, her eyes scanning the room, now abuzz with murmurs about the monumental acquisition. David leaned back in his seat, the weight of his purchase settling in. The Hope Diamond was now his, and he couldn't help but smile to himself, already imagining the look on Catherine's face when he would gift it to her how beautiful she would look wearing it.

After a brief pause, the auctioneer's voice cut through the low hum of conversation, drawing everyone's attention once more.

"Ladies and gentlemen," she began, her tone shifting to one of finality, "that concludes the jewelry portion of our evening. We now transition to the next segment—fine art."

A collective shift of interest filled the room as guests refocused, their attention now on the display of paintings and artworks that had been carefully arranged throughout the venue. The air of exclusivity remained as high-end buyers eagerly anticipated the next wave of bidding.

"For our next collection," the auctioneer continued, her eyes glinting with excitement, "we present an extraordinary array of paintings, each one a masterpiece in its own right, embodying the essence of artistic vision and prestige."

The guests settled back into their seats, some reaching for their paddles once more, while others whispered amongst themselves, discussing the impending art auction. Alexander, however, remained calm and collected, his mind already shifting from the allure of jewels to the canvas of priceless art in front of them. His eyes lit up at the mention of paintings his mind drifting away a little settling on the figure who always seemed to dominate his mind when he wasn't thinking business that was.

As the lights dimmed slightly and the first painting was revealed, the auctioneer's voice rose once more, signaling the beginning of the next phase of the day.
