Chapter 213: Swollen corpses, eerie banquet!
As Qin Nuo caught a glimpse of that face, the corners of his mouth twitched slightly.
Those bulging eyes stared right at him. An ordinary person would have thrown the corpse off their back and run away immediately.
But Qin Nuo held back, withdrew his gaze, and continued walking forward.
The corpse seemed to revert to its original state, with copious amounts of well water flowing down Qin Nuo's body, filling his nose and mouth with an increasingly nauseating stench.
"With so much water flowing, won't it dehydrate?" Qin Nuo couldn't help but think as he finally reached the top of the stairs.
The door to Ah Le's house was just ahead. The light gradually dimmed, and the house was slowly swallowed by darkness.
As he approached the door, he felt an unusual sensation on his back, not a sticky feeling, but more like a rubbing sensation.
A creepy feeling grew in his heart, and Qin Nuo's expression changed slightly, wondering if the corpse was coming back to life.
A low voice sounded in his ear, and the swollen head on his shoulder opened its mouth, spewing out more well water. Clumps of slimy moss-like substances fell onto Qin Nuo and then slid to the ground.
Qin Nuo didn't look to see what it was. Even if Ah Le were to rise from the dead right now, his eyes were fixed solely on the door that was getting closer with each step.As it neared six o'clock, Qin Nuo, with heavy steps and a body weary with fatigue and soreness, finally entered the door.
Crossing the threshold, he entered the house. The hall was empty and unlit, shrouded in darkness.
Qin Nuo placed Ah Le on a chair to the side.
The sound of dripping water echoed clearly in the hall. At this moment, Ah Le had completely turned into a bloated corpse, his face so swollen it was unrecognizable, like an inflated balloon ready to burst at any moment.
"No wonder it was so heavy. How did it suddenly turn into a corpse during the transport?" Qin Nuo thought, his gaze scanning the surroundings of the hall.
The furniture in the hall seemed untouched for a long time, covered in dust and cobwebs. On a table lay a toy Qin Nuo had stepped on earlier that morning, its broken arm reattached.
"Grandpa, I've brought Ah Le. Is the meal ready?" Qin Nuo called out into the darkness.
There was no response, only the sound of water dripping from the bloated corpse behind him.
Creak.
The sound of a chair being moved echoed, as if the corpse had shifted. Qin Nuo turned to look at the corpse, noticing its swollen skin twitching slightly in the dim light.
Qin Nuo's expression shifted slightly, just as he was about to move closer, a voice suddenly spoke: "You're right on time, just as the clock strikes six."
Qin Nuo turned his head abruptly to see Ah Le's grandpa standing silently in front of him, looking up at Qin Nuo with eyes that were pitch black.
"Dong! Dong! Dong!"
As if to confirm his words, the old-fashioned wall clock struck six times, the long chimes echoing in the hall for several moments before fading away.
"Well, my stomach was quite empty, and it's my first time freeloading a meal, so I felt I should be punctual," Qin Nuo said with what he thought was a half-joking tone, but the old man's face remained expressionless, like a paralyzed mask.
"The meal is ready. Wash your hands and come sit down," the old man said, turning away. After a pause, he added, "Ah Le, you too. Grandpa taught you to always wash your hands before eating."
With that, the old man disappeared into the darkness.
Qin Nuo was slightly taken aback. When he turned his head, he found that the bloated corpse on the chair had vanished, leaving only a puddle of reflective water on the floor.
Frowning slightly, Qin Nuo heard some sounds from a dark corner.
After a moment's hesitation, Qin Nuo went to the bathroom to wash his hands, then headed toward a dimly lit area.
Under a window, some light filtered in, casting a glow on the dining table.
On one of the chairs, Ah Le's corpse was somehow seated there, his bloated hands resting on the table.
The dishes on the table weren't particularly lavish, just some simple, common dishes. The old man brought another dish over, pulled out a chair, and gestured for Qin Nuo to sit.
"I'll serve you some rice. Did you wash your hands?" the old man asked.
"Spotlessly clean," Qin Nuo replied with a slight smile, raising his hands.
The old man didn't respond, serving a bowl of rice and placing it in front of him.
Qin Nuo glanced around at the darkness and couldn't help but ask, "Grandpa, is the light bulb broken? Wouldn't it be better to turn on the lights?"
The old man still didn't answer Qin Nuo's question, only saying, "Eat up, see how my cooking is."
Qin Nuo looked at Ah Le, who sat motionless across from him, hesitated, then picked up his chopsticks and put a piece of Mapo tofu in his mouth.
His eyes lit up slightly, with a hint of surprise. It was indeed the familiar taste from the real world.
"How is it?" the old man asked, staring at Qin Nuo, not picking up his chopsticks.
"It melts in your mouth, very delicious," Qin Nuo sincerely praised.
It wasn't a lie. Finding such a meal in the Horror World was indeed rare, especially since he was playing a role that often went hungry and had to fend for himself.
Starving, Qin Nuo tried several more dishes, all with familiar flavors.
"Aren't you afraid it's poisoned?" the Blood-Eyed Ghost couldn't help but ask.
"I'm really starving. If such delicious food is poisoned, I'll accept it. Trading a life-saving scarecrow for a rare full meal isn't a bad deal," Qin Nuo thought as he devoured the food.
After trying all the dishes on the table, Qin Nuo noticed the old man sitting beside him, never intending to eat. He wondered if it was really poisoned and asked, "Grandpa, why aren't you eating?"
Only then did the old man pick up his chopsticks, slowly picking up a piece of eggplant and putting it in his mouth.
At the same time, he said, "You know, these are all my grandson Ah Le's favorite dishes."
"Really? Then Ah Le is really lucky to eat such delicious food every day."
Qin Nuo smiled, glancing at the bloated corpse in the darkness, vaguely guessing something, and discreetly switched his chopsticks to his left hand.
"Yes, he used to be very happy and was very fond of me as his grandpa."
"Likewise, he liked sticking to you. Even though you're a few years apart, you were the only friend willing to play with him."
Qin Nuo nodded, instinctively glancing at the opposite side, smiling slightly, "Isn't Ah Le still quite happy now?"
The old man's pitch-black eyes flickered twice, asking, "What makes you think he's happy in his current state?"
"......"
Qin Nuo was suddenly at a loss for words, realizing that Ah Le's grandpa wasn't lost in his own thoughts. He seemed fully aware of what had happened to his grandson Ah Le.
An eerie atmosphere quietly spread across the dining table.
The bloated corpse continued to seep water along the chair legs.
The old man picked up another piece of tofu, placed it in his mouth, chewed slowly, and after a moment, put down his chopsticks and said.
"You might not remember well, so let me tell you how my good grandson Ah Le ended up like this..."
What do you think?
