Chapter 45: Chapter 45 Start the Investigation

“Captain Song!”

Fang Xiaocao greeted Song Lin.

“Xiaocao?”

“Weren’t you at the hospital?”

Seeing Fang Xiaocao, Song Lin asked with confusion.

“Seeing the car coming, I thought I had recognized the wrong person.”

Song Lin said with a smile.

“Came home to grab some stuff.”

“Still have a few more days in the hospital, didn’t bring anything.”

Fang Xiaocao replied with a smile.

Fang Xiaocao controlled herself, not to look at Axi.

Fang Xiaocao didn’t know if Axi still remembered her; although he had grown up and his appearance had changed, his name had not.

“Wang Qiang was right, you have a Conan constitution.”

“Wherever you go, you run into cases.”

Song Lin said teasingly with a laugh.

“Oh, Captain Song, you’re teasing me too.”

Fang Xiaocao said helplessly.

“Captain Song, what is this about?”

Fang Xiaocao asked curiously.

“These two are the parents of the victim from room 402.”

“They didn’t live together, that’s why they were spared.”

“This child is the victim’s child.”

“Also, the only survivor of this case.”

Song Lin introduced to Fang Xiaocao.

“Uncle and auntie, please accept my condolences.”

“I am your neighbor from downstairs in 302.”

“Hearing this tragic news really saddened me.”

Fang Xiaocao said to the elderly couple.

“Ah…”

“My dear girl, hello.”

The elderly couple said with sorrowful faces.

“Little friend, you’re so cute.”

Fang Xiaocao squatted down and pinched Axi’s face.

Axi smiled unnaturally and pretended to be shy, hugging the old woman’s leg, hiding his face.

“The child was frightened, shy.”

The old woman said as she stroked Axi’s head.

“Yes, that’s understandable.”

Fang Xiaocao said with a smile.

Fang Xiaocao wanted to expose Axi on the spot, but knowing that Song Lin needed evidence, she refrained from speaking out hastily.

Fang Xiaocao prepared to secretly tell Song Lin.

Letting Song Lin find the evidence, to bring Axi to justice.

Axi had committed crimes repeatedly and had always escaped.

It wasn’t that Axi was very cunning, nor that the local criminal investigation was incompetent, but because no one had thought, nor would think, that a culprit with such cruel methods could be a child who looked to be only seven or eight years old.

This had allowed Axi to escape punishment time after time.

Fang Xiaocao believed, as long as she provided Song Lin with a direction for investigation, with Song Lin’s abilities, it wouldn’t take a day to find the crucial evidence to bring Axi to justice.

“Officer Song, if there’s nothing else, we’ll head back now.”

Seeing her grandson frightened, the old woman spoke up.

“Alright, contact me anytime if there’s any situation.”

Song Lin nodded and said in a serious tone.

The old woman nodded, led Axi, and with her husband’s mutual support, they walked away unsteadily.

Before leaving, Axi looked back at Fang Xiaocao with an enquiring gaze.

Fang Xiaocao pretended as if nothing was amiss and waved her hand, shouting, “Little friend, goodbye~”

Only when the elderly couple’s figures had disappeared around the corner did Fang Xiaocao relax and looked at Song Lin with a grave expression.

“Xiaocao, what’s wrong?”

“Why do you look so upset?”

Noticing the change in Fang Xiaocao’s expression, Song Lin asked with concern.

“Captain Song…”

“There’s something wrong with that child…”

Fang Xiaocao said tremulously.

“What?”

Upon hearing Fang Xiaocao’s words, Song Lin was stunned.

“That child has a problem!”

“The culprit is him!”

Fang Xiaocao said solemnly.

Song Lin looked at Fang Xiaocao with suspicion and reached out to feel her forehead.

“Hey, I don’t have a fever!”

Fang Xiaocao swatted Song Lin’s hand away, speaking helplessly.

“I know that child!”

“He is a dwarf!”

Fang Xiaocao stated straightforwardly.

Upon hearing this, Song Lin was startled again.

Immediately, his expression grew serious.

“Elaborate!”

Song Lin said gravely.

Song Lin felt that Fang Xiaocao would not speak without basis.

“That child’s name is Axi, and he was of the same age as me at the orphanage when I was young. He was adopted early, and he already looked that way back then.”

Fang Xiaocao solemnly recounted to Song Lin Axi’s story at the orphanage.

“How can you be sure that this child is him?”

Song Lin asked sternly, frowning.

“During our visits, we found no evidence that the victim had adopted a child.”

Song Lin said gravely.

“Why not just check it out?”

“But you have to act quickly.”

“You just called out my name.”

“I can’t guarantee he didn’t recognize me.”

Fang Xiaocao said solemnly.

“If he has recognized me,”

“He might flee or even commit murder to cover his tracks!”

“If he flees, those old couple may be in danger.”

Fang Xiaocao warned.

Upon hearing this, Song Lin’s expression changed.

“I’ll investigate immediately. If what you’re saying is true, then he might not be a first-time offender.”

Song Lin said with a grave expression.

“Then I won’t bother you anymore, Captain Song,”

Fang Xiaocao said with a smile.

She then walked through the hallway door.

Half an hour later, Fang Xiaocao, carrying a bag, walked out of the building block and got into a car.

To carry out the act completely, Fang Xiaocao couldn’t afford to arouse Song Lin’s suspicions.

Though by this time, Song Lin had already left.

Fang Xiaocao drove away from Xintiandi Restaurant, heading straight back to the hospital.

After Fang Xiaocao had driven off, Song Lin, holding his phone, came out from a corner, watching the taillights of the red Range Rover fading into the distance, lost in thought.

Soon after, the call connected.

“This is Song Lin. Check out the orphanage where Fang Xiaocao used to live and look into Fang Xiaocao’s background. Also, check the adoption records for a boy named Axi; if there are pictures, even better.”

After speaking, Song Lin hung up the phone.

“Fang Xiaocao…”

“Are you really just a student?”

“Why do I feel something is off about you…”

“Today, it’s as if you appeared just to be seen, is it really such a coincidence?”

Song Lin stood still, muttering to himself.

Song Lin picked up his phone and dialed another number.

Once the call connected, Song Lin started, “Old Lin, it’s me. Help me check on the internal network for any cold cases in our province or neighboring provinces where a couple was murdered and the culprit never caught over the past few decades.”

“Especially those cases where there are records of a boy being adopted. If possible, look up the whereabouts of the child, and having pictures would be ideal.”

After speaking, Song Lin said “thanks” and then hung up the phone.

Song Lin put away his phone, turned a corner, got into his own car, and drove out of Xintiandi Restaurant.

An hour later!

Song Lin parked his car in a village in the suburbs.

Through the car window, he watched a residential house.

Living in the house were two elderly and a young person, exactly the elderly couple and Axi from Xintiandi Restaurant.

At the police station!

“Team leader, the forensic service is ready; we can evaluate Han Xue at any time.”

The young female officer whispered to Wang Qiang.

Wang Qiang nodded and asked, “How did the investigation on Han Xue turn out?”

“Han Xue has a long history of purchasing Chlorpromazine.” @@novelbin@@

The young female officer said somberly.

Upon hearing this, Wang Qiang looked surprisingly at the young female officer.
