I regressed and became the Sword Ice King

Chapter 273- Festival 4- Incident at the Academy Portal Gate

"Raph….enough"

Jane said, his tone laced with urgency as Raph glanced at him. A cold shiver ran through his body as they met gazes, a creeping sensation of ice growing within him.

He turned his gaze away in an instant, breathing quickly as Raph cancelled out the force.

Raph sighed, slumping back on his seat and folded his hands in annoyance.

A scowl was etched on his peerless white face, and his eyes exuded a cold malevolence.

"You will participate, right?"

Ciara breathed slowly, her hand around her neck as the crippling sensation exuded her. She looked up from her knees, beyond Jane and at Raph.@@novelbin@@

Something else began to brew within her, Something palpable and suffocating.

'How…How is he so much stronger than me now?' She wondered, confusion laced in her thoughts when she scoffed and suddenly ran down the stairs.

"Ciara?!" Jane called back, but by then, she had rushed out of the class, the intrigued gazes of their classmate fixed on the scene.

Jane turned back to Raph while Darrell sighed.

"Wasn't that a bit too much?" he asked.

Sadly, there was no response.

Raph seemed to be in his line of thought, as he wasn't even paying them any attention.

Jane frowned.

'Is this the group you wish to nurture, Raph? I did say the great families couldn't work together….but this is just….'

Exuding one power to assert dominance. This was a major reason why there was so much division within the Great Families and why they would rather leave one family to succumb to extinction than help.

"If we don't solve the underlying issue, then we will never be able to work together"

He said, turning around to walk away.

"Let's go, Darrell".

Darrell nodded, his gaze lingering on Raph before he joined Jane.

Raph's gaze flickered as he turned to them, a lingering sensation of anger slowly exuding out of his body.

"Hah…what a pain" he muttered, clicking his tongue as he stood up.

'need some fresh air'.

He was about to walk down the stairs when a familiar-looking petite figure came crashing into him from the side.

He glanced to his right, his gaze lingering on the girl in his presence.

'Hah…the girl with the weird status'. He thought when she suddenly yelped and pushed herself away from him.

"So–Sorry about that". She muttered, her gaze flicking between Raph and the wall.

"I was trying to grab your attention before you left….bu–but you were pretty fast"

Raph stared at the violet-haired girl for a moment, a smile forming on his face.

"You're Sophie, right?" he asked.

The girl fidgeted with her fingers, nodding her head in response. "Ye–Oh My, you know my name".

She muttered in surprise.

"Of course I do, I'm the Class Monitor".

"Oh…true, true".

A moment of silence descended between them when Raph suddenly walked forward.

"I was going to check out our senior's events, wanna come with?"

A wild smile formed from Sophie's lips as she jumped down the stairs towards him.

"With pleasure".

Her thoughts reeled in as they walked together, her gaze shifting towards him slightly while they left the class.

'Finally'.

*****

The Portal leading to the Academy was well guarded by the Portal Guards and was structured in front of the Pristine gates of the Academy.

It was a territorial Space on its own so it might seem illogical to have gates when the only method of entry and exit was Portals, but it served as a form of semblance reminder to the students that they were indeed in Academy premises.

As the visitors emerged from the portals, and the guards led them to the Hall of Remembrance, the Security Committee and Team 10 were on watch.

The scenery from the Portal to the hall was a walkway, adorned with trimmed grasses and exotic gardening featuring images of mythical creatures.

In the middle was a dignified stock, its long beaks stretched into the sky while its wings encompassed the whole of its size.

It was a captivating sight the Visitors were often found lingering on before reaching the stairway that led to the Hall of Remembrance.

Elsie stood next to the Portal Guards while this occurred, her boredom increasing with each passing second.

'Hah, geez….if I knew I was going to have to just wait here and do nothing, then I wouldn't have joined'.

Though she thought that, she knew inwardly that this was the best way she would receive any punishment at all.

'....more like my own way'

It seemed like a fun idea at first, but now that she's experiencing it, it has been nothing but slow visitors taking their time to sightsee instead of seeing their kids.

She sighed heavily, her gaze drifting to the skies when her ears perked up to the sound of a familiar figure walking towards her.

She turned towards the girl, a smile forming on her face.

"Miranda? Are you switching up with me?"

Miranda giggled about getting next to her. She vowed slightly to the two portal Guards that stood at both corners of the Portal while she walked up next to Elsie.

"I noticed someone was getting a little bored".

"Oh….I didn't mean to make it so obvious". Elsie muttered in reply as she scratched the back of her head.

"So far it's been good, but nothing is really happening".

"Well, it does happen like that sometimes…." Miranda replied with a sigh while she folded her arms.

A brief silence suffused between them and Elsie had used that moment to get a better look at her senior.

Despite being in the same class as Jang Kang Lin and a lot more talented Children of the Great Families and Vassal Families, Miranda had stood out.

After all, strength was a factor considered when joining the security team.

She was a level 63 Mage, and though she didn't possess a special profession, her intellect in magic had far surpassed many of her System user peers.

'She shines bright in her field'

she thought when an image of Raph appeared in her head.

'....and yet some others shine in all…'

Just then, her nose twitched as a man walked out of the Portal.

He had a bald head and sharp features and his body was covered in a black robe.

At that moment, they both locked gazes as he walked past them, heading towards the Hall of Remembrance with purpose.

"Miranda?"

"He smells funny? I noticed your nose twitch"

"Yes, I think I smelt explosive orbs on him…" She muttered, her tone laced with disbelief.

"Hah…the worst kind of intruders….suicide bombers".

Miranda muttered as she prepared to walk away.

"Stay here and mark any more that come in, we'll take care of this".

The Security Committee did not have any sure method of communicating with each other over long distances, so they had to focus on hand signs.

Her teammate at the entrance to the Hall was quickly notified by Miranda as she raised her hand in the air.

By then, Yuiz, the team member she switched with, had gotten the memo.

He glanced at the man in a robe approaching them and quickly stood in his way.

"Excuse me, sir? You seem to be hot in that robe, can I ask you to pull it?"

The man in the robe suddenly took a step back, a scowl on his face.

"What are you doing to a visitor?! Is this how the Academy treats its guests?!"

"It's nothing like that, sir. This is just a procedure we have to go through to ensure the safety we offer once you get in".

Yuiz replied with a smile on his face.

Some onlookers approached, though they didn't pay it any mind and went their way, but a few curious glances remained.

"Nonsense! The Non-system users are mistreating me! The Academy has chosen to discriminate!"

The man screamed out, his tone laced with hesitation and panic as he took hurried steps away from Yuiz while gaining more attention.

"Is that true?"

"What is the Academy doing about its students?!"

"What absurdity is this?"

Some of the onlookers seemed to have joined the protest, channeling the man's taunts to themselves and exaggerating it to unknown lengths.

Elsie watched from behind as her teammates closed in on the man while the Onlookers protested.

"Hah, geez…this happens every time we let strangers in. What is the Principal thinking this time?"

One of the guards said with the click of his tongue.

"Well, we have the Security Committee for that but you're right, things like these are only going to continue".

The other replied with a sigh.

Elsie's ears twitched to the sound of their brief conversation. She lowered her head a bit, a smile spreading across her face at the thought.

'Oh…..this might actually be more exciting than I thought'.

Just then, they heard the sound of a collision, causing her to turn their attention back to the scene.

Now, Yuiz had tackled the man to the ground, pushing face against the concrete passageway.

His teammates did the task of redirecting the onlookers away from the scene in an attempt to placate the situation, but it seemed like things were simply about to get out of hand.

'Shouldn't they just kill him and get it over with?' Elsie thought, when her nose twitched again, her eyes slowly bulging at the same time.

Three more figures in black robes walked out of the Portal in unison, with purpose in their movement.

'....More?'.
