Chapter 56 - The Barrier Entrance! Qiao Feng!

Chapter 56: The Barrier Entrance! Qiao Feng!

Outside Lin’an City

“It’s an immortal legacy!”

“That must be it!”

“Ordinary earthquakes come from underground, but this sudden tremor originated outside Lin’an City!”

“Of course, a Landed Celestial could shake Lin’an with their power, but there was no sign of qi during the tremors.”

“The only explanation is that an immortal legacy has surfaced near Lin’an!”

Huang Yaoshi flew swiftly toward the source of the disturbance using his lightness skill. Carrying Huang Rong in his arms, he explained his reasoning.

[Huáng Yàoshī – Huang (黄): “Yellow”; a common Chinese surname and one of the “Hundred Family Surnames” (百家姓). It also signifies prosperity and respect in Chinese culture.

Yao (药): Medicine, herb; Shi (师): Master, teacher; denotes expertise, mastery, or a respected figure.]

[Huáng Róng – Huang (黄): As above. Rong (蓉): “Lotus” or “Hibiscus flower”; a symbol of purity, grace, and beauty in Chinese culture.]

Previously, the father-daughter pair had been residing on Peach Blossom Island (桃花岛, Táo Huā Dǎo). But as news of immortal legacies spread across the Five Dynasties, even their secluded home couldn’t remain uninformed.

Though Huang Yaoshi had vowed never to leave Peach Blossom Island after the death of his wife, Huang Rong’s words stirred his resolve.

“Father, if the legends are true and immortals wield unimaginable power, couldn’t you... bring Mother back?”

Her question pierced his heart, giving him a glimmer of hope. Determined, Huang Yaoshi set out with Huang Rong to find the fabled legacy.

So far, their search had been fruitless. Lin’an was supposed to be a brief stopover before resuming their journey. But now, to their astonishment, they found themselves at the epicentre of an extraordinary event.

“Father, look!”

Huang Rong’s sharp cry interrupted his thoughts.

In the distance, the sky was ablaze in crimson, the clouds seemingly burned away. The heavens shimmered as though adorned in a scarlet wedding gown.

“Finally!” Huang Yaoshi’s voice trembled with excitement.

“This has to be it!”

With renewed urgency, he quickened his pace, and within half an incense stick’s time, they arrived several miles away.

“What is this?” Huang Yaoshi muttered in disbelief.

A blood-red barrier stretched endlessly before them, barring their path. @@novelbin@@

“It looks like a barrier,” Huang Rong suggested after a pause.

She had studied the accounts of other dynasties, including the recent events in the Yuan Dynasty. There, a similar barrier had appeared when Princess Zhao Min obtained her legacy.

“Damn it!” Huang Yaoshi clenched his fists. “Does this mean someone else got here first?”

The presence of the barrier suggested that the legacy might already have been claimed, and this was merely a protective seal.

“No, wait!” Huang Rong countered.

“Father, remember the Yuan Dynasty barrier only encompassed a royal estate. But this one stretches for dozens of miles! Such an enormous barrier couldn’t simply be for protecting someone undergoing the inheritance ritual.”

She gestured toward the horizon, emphasizing the sheer scale of the phenomenon.

Huang Yaoshi’s eyes gleamed. “You’re right. This isn’t protection—it’s territory. A barrier this vast must be marking the domain of a powerful cultivator!”

“We need to find an entrance,” Huang Yaoshi declared.

The duo began searching along the barrier’s edge, and after one incense stick’s time, they stumbled upon an unexpected sight.

“Damn it!”

“I still can’t get through!”

A rough voice bellowed in frustration.

Ahead, a burly man was flung backwards by the barrier’s invisible force. Behind him stood several other figures, their faces equally grim.

“Hmm? Huang Laoxie, you’re here too?”

[Huáng Lǎoxié – Huang (黄): “Yellow”; a common surname representing prosperity and respect.

Lao (老): “Old”; often a term of respect or used humorously to denote familiarity.

Xie (邪): “Evil” or “Heretic”; implies eccentricity, nonconformity, or going against the norm.]

Among the group, an older man waved in greeting—it was Hong Qigong.

[Hóng Qīgōng – Hong (洪): “Great flood”; a surname that implies vastness and power. Qi (七): “Seven”; refers to his title as the seventh leader of the Beggars’ Sect (丐帮). Gong (公): “Master” or “Elder”; denotes respect and seniority.]

“Hong Qi, you’re as quick as ever!” Huang Yaoshi replied with a wry smile, leading Huang Rong toward the group.

Understanding the situation, Huang Yaoshi decided to gather more information rather than act impulsively.

“We didn’t rush here deliberately,” Hong Qigong chuckled.

“The old beggar just happened to be nearby when this began. But despite finding the entrance, none of us have been able to get through.”

“At your service, Huang Daozhu,” the burly man stepped forward.

[Huáng Dǎozhǔ – Huang (黄): “Yellow”; a surname indicating his family lineage. Daozhu (岛主): “Island Master”; signifies authority and control over an island.]

“I am Qiao Feng, the current leader of the Beggar’s Sect.”

[Qiáo Fēng: Qiao (乔) “Tall” or “Lofty”; symbolizes elevation or greatness.

Feng (峰): “Peak” or “Summit”; represents excellence, ambition, and standing above others.]

Huang Yaoshi regarded him with interest. He had heard of Qiao Feng—a younger man who had surpassed Hong Qigong to become the Beggar’s Sect Chief. His strength was rumoured to rival, if not surpass that of a Grandmaster of the Heavenly Phenomena.

“Father! Over here!” Huang Rong’s voice called from nearby.

“I found a stone tablet inside the barrier—it has writing on it!”

Her words electrified the group. Without hesitation, they rushed toward her.
