Chapter 27 - 27 27 Is This Personal Enmity
Chapter 27: Chapter 27: Is This Personal Enmity? Chapter 27: Chapter 27: Is This Personal Enmity? Xu Jinzhi went straight to the marketing department supervisor’s office.
“Mr. Xu,” CEO Zhuang greeted politely.
Xu Jinzhi gave a slight nod, handed over the file in her hand, and casually asked, “What’s going on with the people outside?”
Zhuang Jingxiang was momentarily stunned, then quickly pieced it together as he recalled his upcoming tasks. “They’re here to discuss endorsements.”
“Her?” Xu Jinzhi raised her eyebrows slightly. She was aware of the endorsement change, but she didn’t know the specifics. “Is it finalized, or…?”
In her previous life, Liang Shiyu had never come to Xu Group to discuss endorsements. Was this one of those butterfly effects her rebirth had triggered?
“Not so fast. The previous person’s contract hasn’t expired yet. But Ms. Liang seems very interested; she’s already discussed it with me multiple times before.”
“That said, I haven’t agreed yet. I called her in today to get more details, and afterward, the marketing department will evaluate her,” Zhuang Jingxiang explained while signing the file and handing it back to her.
“If that’s the case, why not pick someone else?” Xu Jinzhi didn’t beat around the bush and directly stated her intention.
Surprised, Zhuang Jingxiang stared at Xu Jinzhi and asked, “What’s this about, Mr. Xu? A grudge?”
Hardly anyone knew about Liang Shiyu being Xie Linchuan’s ex-girlfriend, so Zhuang Jingxiang was in the dark about any past grievances between the two women.
“Sort of,” Xu Jinzhi answered ambiguously, finally shaking her head with a wry grin. “I mainly think she’s probably incompatible with Xu Group.”
Zhuang Jingxiang couldn’t help but laugh, “My dear Miss Xu, have you listened to how ridiculous your excuse sounds?”
“Is it funny?” In her past life, Liang Shiyu had single-handedly caused Xu Group’s stock prices to plummet. Wasn’t that enough evidence of incompatibility?
“Alright, I understand what Mr. Xu means,” Zhuang Jingxiang said, then added teasingly, “It’s not a big deal anyway. If our Miss Xu doesn’t like her, we’ll just find someone Miss Xu approves of.”
“Now that’s our Zhuang bro!” Xu Jinzhi nodded seriously with a straight face.
“Miss Xu, please make the trip personally. You can go back to your work now,” Zhuang Jingxiang said.
Without saying another word, Xu Jinzhi took the document and walked out of the office. As she stepped outside, she saw those two people again but kept a straight face and walked past them without so much as a glance.
Liang Shiyu watched Xu Jinzhi’s departing figure, her expression showing hints of complexity. But soon, she resumed her proud and slightly arrogant demeanor.
She knew about the Xie Family’s intentions to arrange a marriage between Xie Linchuan and this Xu Miss after breaking up with her. She also knew that the current fiancé of Miss Xu was Xie Linchuan’s younger brother.
Even though it had nothing to do with her, whenever Liang Shiyu looked at Xu Jinzhi, she couldn’t help but feel a delusional sense of superiority over her.
“Sister Liang, Sister Liang!”
Liang Shiyu snapped out of her daze and looked blankly at her assistant Xiao Tang beside her.
“We can go in now,” Xiao Tang said again.
Liang Shiyu nodded, “Let’s go.”
The two entered the office together, meeting CEO Zhuang. Liang Shiyu greeted him confidently and gracefully.
Zhuang Jingxiang responded with equal politeness before inviting them to sit on the sofa to discuss the matter at hand.
However, the tone of this meeting was distinctly different from their previous encounters.
At first, Liang Shi still managed to maintain her composed and gracious smile, but gradually, her smile started to fade. She had a sinking feeling that the endorsement wouldn’t go to her.
Sure enough, soon after, she heard Zhuang Jingxiang say, “Ms. Liang, choosing us is an honor, but as of now, it seems fate isn’t working in our favor.”
“If Ms. Liang doesn’t mind, perhaps we’ll have the chance to collaborate in the future.”
Liang Shiyu’s smile froze on her face, and Xiao Tang could only look at her anxiously. Xiao Tang wasn’t a manager and didn’t know how to negotiate business deals.
Glancing at his watch, Zhuang Jingxiang offered a polite yet formal smile. “Ms. Liang, I have other work to attend to shortly. I apologize.”
At this point, his words were a clear dismissal.
Liang Shiyu had high hopes for this endorsement deal, especially since their previous discussions had gone so smoothly, giving her more confidence in securing the role.
Now faced with such an outcome, of course, she was dissatisfied.
But aside from feeling dissatisfied, there was nothing more she could do. This bitter pill, it seemed, she would have to swallow by herself.
Standing up, Liang Shiyu saw Zhuang Jingxiang rise to his feet as well, offering a handshake alongside his customary smile. “Looking forward to collaborating next time.”
“There will be opportunities,” Liang Shiyu said, intent on maintaining her dignity to the very end.
Yet at the last moment, Liang Shiyu couldn’t resist asking, “Is this decision not to collaborate because of Miss Xu?”
“Miss Xu?” Zhuang Jingxiang looked puzzled, as though he didn’t understand what Liang Shiyu was referring to.
“I mean Miss Xu Jinzhi,” Liang Shiyu clarified.
With an artificial smile, Zhuang Jingxiang replied, “You mean Mr. Xu? Ms. Liang, you’re overthinking it. These small matters are not something Mr. Xu concerns herself with.”
The implication was clear: someone like her was too insignificant for their Mr. Xu to bother with.
At this, the smile on Liang Shiyu’s face completely faltered. She withdrew her hand, initially wanting to say something, but facing the man before her, she found herself at a complete loss for words.
Without another word, Liang Shiyu turned and walked out, while Xiao Tang, juggling a bag and some random items, hurried after her.
After leaving the office, Liang Shiyu tried her best to keep her expression intact but walked quickly, as if she had urgent business.
Soon, they reached the parking lot. Once inside the car, Liang Shiyu finally let her forced smile drop, her face darkening with visible displeasure.
“Sister Liang,” Xiao Tang called out cautiously.
Liang Shiyu didn’t respond immediately. Only after a long pause did she softly say, “I should’ve seen this coming.”
“What do you mean?” Xiao Tang asked, looking at her in confusion.
Liang Shiyu sighed with some helplessness, “Do you know who the Xu Jinzhi we just mentioned is?”
Xiao Tang shook her head blankly, “No idea.”
“She’s the eldest daughter of Xu Group,” Liang Shiyu paused briefly. “If not for me, Miss Xu would have been engaged to Linchuan.”
Xiao Tang froze momentarily before bursting out, “So that’s why Xu Group refused to work with you?”
What do you think?
