Infinite Evolution: My Idle Evolution System

Chapter 242 The Truth About Memphis

WAAA!!

When Lilith's evolution concluded, Cassius rubbed her sides and received a euphoric reaction in return. She happily hummed, seemingly describing to him how nice she was feeling.

For the first time in what felt like days, Cassius smiled.

Though, in the very next instant, his smile faded. He couldn't even remember smiling at all.

"Time to name my Slayer Weapon," he said, as if to distract himself from this lurching feeling digging away inside him. "A name… What's a good name for a scythe…"

He summoned forth his bloody scythe for some inspiration. And after a few minutes of deliberation, he finally decided on the name for this large, menacing scythe:

"Mora," Cassius declared. "Your name shall be Mora, Rivers of Blood."

As a rough translation, Mora meant 'Death' in Latin. It was a fitting name for what he had planned for this sickly sharp weapon of his. Rivers of blood would truly begin to flow with every attack of hers.

WAAA!

A resplendent and mesmerizingly dangerous aura spread out from the large scythe looming over Cassius's head. The aura enveloped the area for thousands of meters around them, pressuring every disfigured Nightmare carcass nearby. The scythe was marking. Marking the beginning of endless bloodshed.

Normally, Lilith would've been rejoicing over such an absurd amount of bloodlust, but for some reason, she was being oddly silent. Almost pouty, even.

[Seems like the Ladykiller is at it again!] the System said playfully. [Even inanimate objects can't resist your irresistibly s*xy loner, boner, virgin-loser charm!]

[(⸝⸝๑﹏๑⸝⸝)]

[Teach me your ways, oh master Lady Slayer~!]

Cassius: "...."

Perhaps all it took was the System's usual absurdity to reignite some of his emotions. Particularly his disgust and disbelief, both of which were especially active right now.

In the end, a heavy sigh escaped his lips before he moved his attention to the outside of his humble abode.

"I've been here for around 50 hours," he said apathetically. "And seeing as the System hasn't once bothered trying to goad me into returning home, I assume I can stay here forever."

[Only this one time—and not forever. The next time, you'll require Nightscare Shards to extend the duration of your stay!]

Cassius kept the System's message to the back of his mind. Now, the only thing he worried about was how much more continuous pain and death he could take before he lost the rest of his sanity…

Even still:

"I must get stronger," said Cassius, his quiet steps slowly leaving the bounds of his cave. "I must."

He couldn't quite explain why he needed to grow so much stronger than he already was, but something deep within him—an unshakable, primal instinct—screamed that he would regret it for the rest of his life if he didn't do whatever it took to achieve greater power.

If before, he did it mostly for the sake of his own self-interest, then this time, it was like a signal being sent to him from some higher force above. Otherworldly. Daunting. Terrifying. There were many words to describe this inexplicable feeling, and every single one of them screamed of terrible misfortune occurring in the near future.

And based on that esoteric feeling alone, Cassius lumbered forward, with each further step leaving behind rivers of blood…

— Meanwhile, within a land of golden towers that extended far above the aurum-shaded clouds that littered a mystical land where winged humanoids darted about —

Starting with a sudden jolt, Memphis looked around with a weary gaze. "W…Where am I…?" she questioned skeptically.

Painting a clear picture, the place she found herself in was a quaint little white gazebo situated right outside acres and acres of shiny gold-spotted sunflowers. A few short hills dotted the landscape, with the same sunflowers growing atop them as well. A tiny pond of around ten cubic meters in length and width sat right beside the gazebo.

As for the gazebo itself, it was very simply decorated. There was only a moderately sized cotton bed, as well as flowy white curtains hanging off a high-hanging headrest for the bed.

Memphis was only able to gaze out at the scenery outside the gazebo when the subtle spring-like breeze blew the bed curtains around. Through them, she could see both the picturesque environment… as well as an angelic woman whose beauty surpassed everything around her. She was as if a Goddess herself had decided to grace the human world.

Except… this was not the Human World, was it?

Zooming out ever so briefly, one could see that Memphis was stranded on a floating island. Yet, it was but one of countless islands gradually orbiting around an enormous golden palace, with equally shimmering golden towers that breached above the clouds.

However, this palace and even the many islands surrounding it were merely one formation of dozens of similar formations. Golden palaces sprinkled out all over this paradise in the sky, with each one slightly different from the others. The heavenly songs and tunes being played by angel harpists also varied between the palace formations, all dependent on the music taste of each of the high-ranking Archangels.

Yet, in the Heavenly Kingdom—below the All-Father himself—there was but one Archangel recognized as being #1.

"Mikeala," said the divinely beautiful woman standing outside the gazebo Memphis was in. "That's my name, oh daughter of mine."

"!!!"

Memphis's expression experienced multiple drastic changes as she looked at the angelic woman eloquently approaching her. Mikeala's ten, magnificent wings were neatly folded into her relatively revealing white dress. Her eyes were closed—her golden-stranded hair elegantly flowing. And yet none of her perfect physical appearance could possibly hope to dampen the impact that her casual words had on the stunned girl before her.

"We have a lot to catch up on, it seems," Mikeala said with a small, dazzling smile. "You must remember to keep in mind that what I'm about to tell you may make me seem cruel, but if you continue listening, you'll understand exactly why I did what I did."

Memphis, still reeling from both her sudden revival and this Angel's words, was unable to give pause to the woman now sitting at the end of her bed. The blowing bed curtains stopped moving around and stood motionless above the bed frame, almost as if the very fabric of the curtains was afraid to mess with the drop-dead gorgeous Angel.

"Where shall we begin? Oh… How about I tell you of your actual father and my feud with the Fallen Angel, Lucifer?"

"!!!"

With a warm, inviting smile etched across her flawless face, Archangel Mikeala went on to explain in great detail everything that had happened since Memphis's birth.
