Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix

Chapter 748: Excitement

Terra’s idea hit Rain and Seara like a lightning bolt, leaving them both stunned and intrigued. The concept seemed almost too straightforward to be effective, but made a lot of sense. Rain, who knew how to make protective barriers and had a vast knowledge of spells, was taken aback by the idea’s simplicity and potential effectiveness.

The core of the suggestion was pretty straightforward: combine Rain’s skills in making barriers with his knowledge of spells to create a barrier that could stop spells from working inside it.

While the idea showed promise, figuring out how to make it work and sustain it posed a real challenge. Nonetheless, Terra’s suggestion sparked a ray of hope, offering a new way to deal with a long-standing issue. @@novelbin@@

Using the same theory that Rain learned by making a gem, Rain used his mana to create a crystal… It looked like a refined blue ore, but even though Rain used half of his mana, it was only the size of his fist… the crystals that he had seen before were many times bigger. Regardless, while Rain was creating it, he tried to think of all the spells that he could use.

Whenever he thought of one, the crystal would glow. Finally, Rain focused his intent on adding a magic barrier in order to contain the use of mana inside, but nothing happened this time. While Rain was thinking of what he should do, the crystal stopped glowing and fell on his hands.

"Did it work?" Terra asked.

"... I don’t think so," Rain furrowed his eyebrows and then used Appraisal on the crystal.

Magic Field Crystal: when fed with mana, it creates a barrier that grants those inside the ability to use advanced spells without knowing them.

"... It was a failure, huh?" Terra said after a long sigh.

"The process was, but the theory wasn’t," Rain said. "Give me some time to think about this a bit more… it consumes too much mana to keep trying without a clear goal in mind."

After pondering the idea for a while, Rain had an epiphany. Rather than combining all the knowledge of spells he possessed into the barrier, he realized the crucial point lay in understanding the crystal’s mechanism itself.

It dawned on Rain that the key wasn’t to infuse the barrier with every spell he knew to nullify them. Instead, the critical aspect was to incorporate the knowledge of the crystal’s mechanism on how to counteract each specific spell.

This understanding shifted the approach significantly. Rain comprehended that the barrier needed to be tuned not to encompass all the spells themselves but rather to sync with the crystal’s understanding of countering each spell individually. It was a nuanced distinction, focusing not on the vast array of attacks but on countering their effects based on the crystal’s operational logic.

Once Rain thought of all that, he created another crystal and then fed it with his remaining mana. The result was a barrier that covered the whole house.

"... Wow, I really can’t use mana anymore," Terra said while checking her hands.

"I can sense the barrier, though, and it is shrinking," Seara said.

"It is probably because the crystal it is using the mana I infused to stop the spell," Rain explained.

"This crystal is blue, but weren’t the others red and purple?" Terra asked.

"That is because Joanis used the blood of his kids to make the red ones," Rain rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "The blood probably was the secret to use their magic. Only those with the same blood could use it. The question is how he was able to make a barrier that had anti physical attacks properties as well and also could drain mana from the environment.

The physical one should be able to block the dust."

"What if we can just create a crystal that creates a wind barrier that repels the dust?" Terra asked.

"... I suppose that will work too…" Rain said. "You are getting smarter, I am a positive influence, am I not?"

"Your ideas are always too grand in scale, and you end up forgetting the obvious," Terra shrugged.

"That will work on the ocean as well, right?" Seara asked. "If we create a tower in the middle of the Capital that reaches the surface…"

"It should work, but the problem still is mana," Rain said. "We will have to do some tests." Experience exclusive tales on Freewebnovel

With the creation of the new crystal, Rain embarked on a series of experiments that yielded intriguing results. One of the initial discoveries was that the crystal possessed the capability to absorb not only direct mana but also mana from potions. This revelation brought a significant breakthrough as it meant they didn’t need every individual to constantly supply mana to the crystal.

Instead, the solution was simpler: they could channel the mana from potions directly into the crystal.

To maintain a barrier that could cover the whole capital, more mana would be used over time. It seemed a lot, but considering that they wanted to protect the entire country, they eventually realized that only one potion every ten minutes to preserve the capital wasn’t a really high amount.

Moreover, when the population was finally able to see the blue sky without anyone using wind walls after a while, they got excited like they had won the World Cup.

"Geez, you make magic progress like no one else…" Branden said while they watched through the window of the castle, the people were dancing and hugging each other.

"This isn’t a total solution either… ordinary people can only make one potion every three days, so only to protect the capital, we will need two hundred people working only on that," Rain explained. "The other places will need fewer people, but most of them won’t have people with enough mana to make a single potion."

"We understand your worries, but let’s celebrate this Victory and think of the next problems later," Esmeralda said. "You need to go and help the other cities and eventually the sea folk as well."
