Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix

Chapter 823 Meeting again

"Sorry, but you didn't answer the real questions here," Rain said. "Rather than thinking about the fate of your people, I want to know what my wife and my daughter had been up to."

"I can't read your aura well, thanks to your weird mana field, but are you worried that they get married or something?" Isa asked.

"Not really," Rain said while looking away nervously. "There are no other men as good looking as cool as me so that Seara wouldn't remarry. As for Sealyn… I can't say much since I didn't have the chance to scare away her boyfriends."

"Your voice is trembling, and your body language is practically screaming lack of confidence," Isa frowned.

"No way. If anyone were to sell a product that would boost their confidence, you can bet that my face would be on the label," Rain said. "I am the quintessential face of self confidence."

"If you say so," Isa said. "Well, I don't know anything about their personal lives. Even I grew tired of their obnoxious and unfriendly behavior. It isn't like I can't understand that they were mourning your loss, but keeping that behavior for decades is annoying. I think that the last time I tried to talk with them was ten years ago."@@novelbin@@

That was a bit disappointing, but there was nothing that Rain could do about it… in any case, Rain didn't reveal the details to Isa, but there was no point in trying to lie to her, so he told her what happened to him. She assumed that while he was in a half-dead state, he worked on rebuilding his damaged body.

"I see… the phoenix dragons have a similar technique," Isa said.

"They do?" Rain frowned.

The Phoenix dragons were known for their unusual attribute of harnessing the abilities of other dragons, albeit through a rather unconventional method. Unlike most dragons that inherently possessed specific skills, the Phoenix dragons gained new powers after undergoing a cycle of death and rebirth.

Upon their demise, they reincarnated, tapping into the skills of the dragons whose powers they absorbed during their rebirth.

This unique process allowed the Phoenix dragons to diversify their capabilities, effectively accumulating a variety of skills from different dragons across lifetimes. Their adaptability and unpredictable nature in combat arose from this ability to absorb and utilize a multitude of powers, enabling them to present an array of talents during confrontations.

"Well, they become ashes, and they take a month to be rebirth, so your skill can't be compared to them since yours is one thousand times slower," Isa said.

"Not like I was competing, but the comparison pisses me off," Rain said.

"In any case… I never said that to you, but I always knew that you were different," Isa said while studying Rain. "Still, I can't understand why the dragon god would only show up to kill you… your potential shouldn't be on the same level as him since you made too little progress learning the skills of the other dragons."

"Is that so?" Rain asked. "Sorry for being so talentless, then."

Isa was smart, but her intelligence wasn't supernatural… there was no way that she would be able to tell Rain was a reincarnated person. Rain didn't want to risk that, though. So, he decided to play it dumb and change the subject. Still, the sun was already starting to rise, but Rain still felt his back getting a bit cold.

It didn't take long for Rain to understand the reason for that, he could feel some annoyed presences approaching and while they were naturally cold, they also seemed ominous and angry and they were heading toward the tent. As soon as Rain turned around, he saw Seara lookout at him.

"Honey!" Rain said and then got up to have a emotional meeting with his wife.

Seara's arrival was accompanied by an undeniable tension that seemed to cloud her behavior. Despite not outright accusing Rain of being an impostor, there was a palpable sense of unease and skepticism in her gaze as she approached. Her expression held a mix of annoyed curiosity and reserved anger, indicating that her expectations for the meeting differed considerably from Rain's.

Rain, eager to bridge the gap and greet Seara warmly, attempted to dispel the uneasy atmosphere with a hug. However, before he could reach out, Seara's swift action intercepted the gesture. She deflected his advance, firmly grasping his chin, signifying her reluctance to embrace the familiar warmth Rain sought to offer.

Though her action was brief, it spoke volumes about the disparity between their anticipated encounters, leaving Rain momentarily uncertain about how to proceed.

"You have become so strong… I bet that you can bench press more than me now," Rain said while forcing a smile even though his chin was cracking. "Still, you are as beautiful and slender as I remember."

"You always tried to sweet talk your way out of these situations, so you must be the real deal," Seara said while glaring at Rain. "You found us, but the first thing you do is to go to the home of another woman."

"I knew that things would take this cliched turn…" Rain shrugged. "I missed you, but why aren't you happy to see me as I am happy to see you?"

"You have some nerve to ask me that," Seara said and the air in the area began to freeze and even the ground began to be covered in frost.

"Although you welcome him like this, you are still jealous because I saw him first?" Isa asked while furrowing her eyebrows. "You are really a child… weren't you the one who felt your mana being drained because of the seals and assumed that it couldn't be him?"

"Shut up, I am not talking to you," Seara said while a vein was bulging in her forehead.

"I will, but only if you stop freezing my home," Isa said. "You have poor manners. Did anyone ever tell you that? I bet not."
